Re: Coordinators needed
If they bring in DaFlip, there is still no guarantee that KOC isn't calling the plays anyways. Regardless, it will also be KOC's offense, not DaFlips ! I hope KOC calls the plays. I know he didn't with the Rams, but maybe he will here.
Whoever comes in, will have to run KOC's offense and learn the terminology.

What a total load of crap.StumpHunter wrote: ↑Mon Feb 07, 2022 12:15 pmThis is just people liking an OC because Zimmer didn't like him. His passing schemes were fine, but his overall strategy was awful, and no matter what you think of Zimmer, he was right to want to run more in 2018 and his OC should have listened to him. The fact he didn't listen to his HC to the detriment of the team should disqualify him from the conversations for OC alone.
Cleveland fell from 24th to 28th in offensive DVOA when DeFillipo took over as OC.
Minnesota fell from 5th to 18th.
The Jags actually went up from 30th to 24th, but they didn't really have anywhere to go but up.
3 teams, 3 bad offenses, 3 strikes and he should be out.
I could just as easily say the only reason you’re trashing DeFilippo is because I called your boy Zimmer a dinosaur, and you defend Zimmer at every turn.
I’m not advocating hiring him. I’m just saying he’s not the idiot people like you make him out to be. And I can guarantee you, Zimmer’s utter lack of foresight contributed as much to the disaster in Minnesota as any incompetence DeFilippo had. The Vikings, including Zimmer, were the ones who signed Cousins. They’re the ones who interviewed and signed DeFilippo. You sign a 4,000-yard passer and an OC known for throwing the ball, and you expect ground-and-pound? Nonsense. They knew what they were getting. And when things didn’t go the way Zimmer wanted, he cut DeFilippo loose.
DeFilippo had culpability, too. He abandoned the running game, even though he knew it was what his head coach wanted. Meanwhile, you can stop defending Zimmer anytime now. He f***d up, as he did with almost every OC. Now he’s gone, as he should be.

Go ahead. I dare you.

Re: Coordinators needed
I knew after this sentence you had doozy of a post coming up and you didn't disappoint. The head coach of a team hated his OCs and held them back? Why? It isn't like OCs coached under Zim and didn't succeed. Two of Mike Zimmer's OCs did so well they got head coaching jobs because of their success in MN.
DeFillipo wasn't the OC in Philly...
He hired his OC so he could fire him for being the QB coach on a team that beat him in the NFCCG?
Zimmer started coaching in the NFL in the mid 90's but you think he wanted to go back to a 70s style offense? Huh? In his 8 seasons as the HC his QB had fewer than 20 attempts 4 times. He was only able to achieve his goal 4 out of 129 times? No wonder he was fired.CharVike wrote: ↑Mon Feb 07, 2022 12:54 pm Norv Turner was another OC he couldn't stand. Basically chased him out of town. Turner had prior success with Dallas. But Turner also wanted to pass and get the 90s offense rolling. Zim wanted that early 70s style. Only throw when needed. Keep the attempts under 20. Run the clock out.

You should really put quotes around things you are quoting. Zimmer was very clear he wanted his OC to call more rushing plays, because his OC should have been calling more rushing plays. It is football 101 that if your pass blocking isn't very good, your QB is turning the ball over a lot, and you have one of the best RBs in the NFL, you should run the ball more. It was something every fan was calling for at the time, along with Zimmer, but fan's memories are short, and they forget how lousy things were with Flip as OC.CharVike wrote: ↑Mon Feb 07, 2022 12:54 pm Below was Zim's problem with DeFlip
Throughout the Vikings' skid, Zimmer repeatedly and publicly chastised his offensive coordinator for not generating a rushing attack. While the Vikings attempted to get the ground game going Monday night, the poor offensive performance, in which Minnesota didn't score a point until garbage-time, sealed DeFilippo's fate.
DeFilippo's firing marks the second in-season OC change in the past three seasons under Zimmer. Norv Turner quit midway through the 2016 season, paving the way for Shurmur to take over.

It was not hard to be an OC under Mike Zimmer. Just ask Shurmur and Stefanski who turned it into a head coaching job.

Re: Coordinators needed
I wouldnt say this one is disappointing. Trust me I thought the same thing when I saw the word "Lions". But Pleasant was the Rams DBs coach from 2017-2020 and was part of the number one defense in the NFL in 2020. He was only at the Lions this past year. I'm intrigued that's for sure.StumpHunter wrote: ↑Mon Feb 07, 2022 10:50 pmHow is it possible to have every coordinator rumored to be coming to MN be so disappointing?Texas Vike wrote: ↑Mon Feb 07, 2022 7:56 pm Tom Pelissero

Don't know anything about Weaver, but sounds like a few teams have some interest including the Vikings.Jeremy Fowler
@JFowlerESPN
The Vikings interviewed Ravens run game coordinator/defensive line Anthony Weaver for their defensive coordinator position, per source. Weaver also interviewed with Broncos and Ravens for DC roles

Whatever man. Remember, your boy Zimmer hired all of them. He also, in a report by Ben Goessling, contacted Hue Jackson to help him understand offensive playcalling, just so he could criticize Norv Turner and meddle with his playcalling. And he bristled at the idea of Turner setting up his son Scott to someday take over as OC — all the while setting up his own totally unqualified son to be the DC. And you want to sit here and tell me it was easy to be an OC under Mike Zimmer? That is the undisputed champion of bad takes.
If anything, the fact that Stefanski and Shurmur didn’t fail spectacularly like the others is a testament to their fortitude, not something to credit to Mike Zimmer.

Go ahead. I dare you.

Re: Coordinators needed
Shurmur did get a HC job and was booted after 2 terrible seasons. He was just fired from Denver. He's back out there. Stef is coming up on year 3. It will come down to Baker. If he stays healthy and improves they have a shot at the division. There's no 13 win team there. 10 or 11 wins should do it. He's following the Zim path and even has Case on the bench which is ok he's a good backup QB and that shouldn't be overlooked. Our new GM needs two Gs and a C. All need size and a base as a starting point.StumpHunter wrote: ↑Mon Feb 07, 2022 2:20 pmI knew after this sentence you had doozy of a post coming up and you didn't disappoint. Re: Coordinators needed
You tell me. Did all of the other four fail? Based on your previous comment that "almost every OC" Zimmer failed with, I assume you think Kubiak Sr and Jr failed, while I would argue both were at least fine. Gary was actually a solid OC, while I wouldn't call Jr a failure as much as an incomplete. I don't think he was bad, but he also didn't do anything to prove he is good either.J. That leaves Norv and DeFillipo. The first was a pure Zimmer hire and while Norv was actually pretty good at preparing his offense to compete and helping Zimmer and Spielman find quality offensive guys in the draft, his stubbornness to stick with a passing scheme we did not have the Oline to execute was his eventual downfall. DeFillipo was forced on Zimmer by the GM and was a disaster from start to finish, which is why I do not understand why he is even being considered for an OC position with the Vikings, or any team for that matter.
