Despite everything else that goes into a record like that, that's pretty discouraging.

You have to wonder, did Rick even see this stat before he paid him 85 million? Thats one of the worst stats ive ever seen. Where was it before we signed Cousins? I dont think a single paper/reporter mentioned it.

No it wasn't Speilman has issues drafting QBs and OL. Its been that way since he was in the triangle of auth. Even back to Miami.Mothman wrote: ↑Wed Dec 12, 2018 2:49 pmI think Bradford was obviously better, despite the injuries (although maybe I'm remembering wrong and he wasn't drafted in 2010—he was never an option for the Vikes that year anyway).StumpHunter wrote: ↑Wed Dec 12, 2018 1:31 pmI can't blame Rick for not drafting a QB in 2010. It was a horrible year for QBs. The best QB to come out of that group might be Joe Webb since he at least contributes on STs.
The first several years Spielman was with the team were pretty lean years in the draft for quality QBs.

PFF had the line ranked as the 9th best passing line in 2014. Horrid?Fat Stupid Loser wrote: ↑Wed Dec 12, 2018 2:14 pmHmmm. Well I didn't look at the all 22. Haven't done that for quite a while. What I could see on the screen and replays were swarmed receivers and only the check down open most of the time. Other than the Theilen end zone when his defender fell. Kirk is known for getting the ball out quickly and on time. He is a timing QB. Or at least was in Washington. But this is a different style offense somewhat. Gruden's is very regimented, regarding where the ball goes and when. Washington's O line was horrid until Kirk got the job and then all of a sudden the same terrible line was good. It seems the reverse here. I saw him fix all the issues you mentioned above in Washington. Seems odd to me that he is the cause of it here. Unless its just learning a new system.StumpHunter wrote: ↑Wed Dec 12, 2018 1:27 pm
I honestly think Kirk contributed to all of those things, indirectly and directly. Indirectly the defense is hurt by shorter drives on offense and less time to rest. Indirectly a less mobile QB is hurting the run game because the defense does not need to account for him running the ball or containing him in the pocket. Directly Kirk is hurting the Oline with his unwillingness to move in the pocket, and by how long he takes to make decisions and get rid of the ball.
The guy had the 5th longest time to throw on Monday of any QB in week 14. 5th for a pure pocket passer. The shortest sack time was 3.6 seconds in that game, with the shortest in the NFL being 1.5 seconds. Our starting RB averaged 4.2 YPA and while Diggs wasn't getting a ton of separation and was doubled a lot, Thielen was wide open much of the game.
The lack of scoring Monday wasn't on the Oline, it wasn't on the RB, it wasn't on the receivers and while the OC didn't have a great game, it wasn't really on him either. It was on the QB who consistently missed seeing wide open receivers and played like complete garbage.
Kirk Cousins has one of the longest times to throw of any pocket passer in the NFL. This year behind "a horrible line", last year behind "a horrible line" and in 2016 when his line was actually healthy and good. Where did you hear he got the ball out quickly?

PFF is a joke.
The Devil whispered in the Viking's ear, "There's a storm coming." The Viking replied, "I am the storm." #SKOL2018
Re: Are we screwed with Cousins.
its an awful stat, it shows he is a stat padder, who gets most of his stats when he is behind and opposing team resting defense.
Batted passes bad enough i have seen cousins hit lineman standing there. Cousins to me looks like a backup

Re: Are we screwed with Cousins.
I wonder what Zimmers record is against winning teams, going back to when he was DC. He seems to fail when we need him the most, like Cousins. But for the next 2 years and 3 games (hopefully more but doubtful) we are stuck with Rick, Zimmer and Cousins. If i were a betting man, I would bet we dont make it past the first playoff game in any year.
Re: Are we screwed with Cousins.
Lets hope we can improve Cousins stats. If not, it will be a wasted 2 years.

They aren't perfect, but it is better than some guy on here's opinion of what the 2014 Redskin line was like. Especially when that guy says Cousins gets rid of the ball quickly, when we know that isn't true. In fact it is the opposite.

Re: Are we screwed with Cousins.
People on boards I frequent mentioned it. It was why I thought he would put up better passing stats than Keenum, but not necessarily make the team better. Turns out I was only half right, which is really surprising to me. Keenum is not a good QB, but he had a better year on this Vikings team than Cousins is going to have.PurpleKoolaid wrote: ↑Wed Dec 12, 2018 3:43 pmYou have to wonder, did Rick even see this stat before he paid him 85 million? Re: Are we screwed with Cousins.
Kirk Cousins had so much time on specific plays against Seattle because they were dropping 9 and at times, doubled both Thielen and Diggs because they KNEW what was coming and Flip didnt adjust a thing from the previous week. This offense was easy to scheme for. If you know we're passing you either blitz (which our OL cannot pickup hardly ever) which is what NE did. Or you drop 9 like Seattle and double the two best play makers. Kirk was pressured 14 times (?) against NE. Resulted in a poor game. Kirk was pressured less vs. Seattle but was forced to check down by them dropping 9 guys. Resulted in a poor game. Not sure why this isnt being seen by others?
I said before, our OL IS a better pass blocking unit than Seattle's. It shows in the numbers. But the fact that Flip had Cousins still throwing 40+ times a game and running very little, it seems like he was getting pressured or sacked that much more. He had 130 more pass attempts than Wilson going into that game. That is over 4 games worth of pass attempts for Wilson and Wilson has been sacked 6 more times. Our adjusted sack rate was like 5th in the league at 5.4%. Seattle's was 29th at like 9.5%.
The difference is, Seattle's recognizes it and doesnt put the game in Wilsons hands. They adjust to their strengths which is running the ball. The guy threw 20 passes for 72 yards that night. However, Flip does not adjust to that when we have good RBs. I dont buy the "our OL cant run block". They can. Cook is averaging 4.8 YPC in 2 games. We can run. But Flip refused. He was trying to make Kirk Cousins into something he's not. Washington did the same thing because they never had a run game either. But they actually never really had good RBs. We do and arent using them.
