OK, so he's more comfortable throwing on the run. That doesn't cut it in the NFL.King James wrote:I could be wrong but he looks much more comfortable throwing outside of the pocket than in. I know the problem of running outside of the pocket eliminates throwing to the WR on the opposite side. Im sure something can be done though. I don't think Ponder can mentally function in the pocket. He seems more accurate when running.
When you roll out, you eliminate half the field. NFL defenders are too good and too fast to allow them to only cover half the field. He's not playing against Duke or NC State. An NFL quarterback can't just roll out play after play. He HAS to be able to throw from the pocket.
All I can say is, "So what?"King James wrote:I don't know how reliable sport science is but this video also suggest that Ponder was more accurate on the run than any QB in that class he was drafted with.
Ponder was drafted with fellow first-rounders Blaine Gabbert, Jake Locker and Cam Newton. Even though Newton is a dynamic player, he wasn't a particularly accurate thrower at that time. The other two were complete garbage then, and they remain complete garbage now. If he was the most accurate of a pretty bad lot, what does that make him?
