I wouldn't give too much for him right now, as expected defenses figured out the read option gimmick in the off season. Needless to say he's essentially as bad as Ponder without it. Perhaps his game will evolve but so far it doesn't look good. They took MBT so my guess is they'd probably make the trade for Ponder.

Sid thinks Ponder has a couple of games left to prove himself:

I haven't watched many of their games; are they not running the same scheme as last season? Or can it be attributed to his lack of weapons (sound familiar)? The Crabtree injury is looking pretty big right now.

ooooh conspiracy. Ponder is such a wimp that he is wanting to play with a broken rib next to his heart  Who's next in line to be belittled and laughed at, that is the question. Cassel, Freeman, Frazier, Spielman, Wilf, Fusco, Bishop, Simpson, Greenway,Harvin (ooops already lambasted him to death), the stadium, the uniforms so much to choose from.

Sounds like Ponder has been demoted to 2nd string for now, possibly 3rd. Also seems like he might be on the trading block.
Adam Schefter - ESPN wrote:Ponder said he has been told whether or not he will start on Sunday against the Panthers, and while Ponder wouldn't share the details of the Vikings' decision, his answers suggested Cassel will get the call.
and
Ponder said he's had "some conversations" with Frazier and general manager Rick Spielman about his future in Minnesota, and added a trade would be "difficult to deal with," but put on a brave face as he talked about his standing in the organization on Thursday.

"I spent a little time worrying about it, and realized that's no good. It's not going to help me out," Ponder said. "My focus is on what I can control, and that's getting healthy, which I have been doing, and getting better on the football field, which I feel like I have been doing.

These tweets are from Andrew Krammer of 1500espn.com

.............................................................

Ponder defended himself by expressing surprise in Freeman signing: "You never know, as we’ve seen in the past week, what’s going to happen."

Frazier said he hasn't told the team about who he'll start at QB on Sunday. Didn't deny telling Ponder, who was clearly down today.

Ponder: "Some dynamics in this organization have changed." Said he'd "be lying" if he wasn't disappointed.

------------------------------------------

Soooooo... Frazier hasn't told the team who is starting 3 days from now. Even if he is lying about that, it's a pretty dumb thing to say to the public.

Ponder seems really offended. Could be the first time in his athletic career he's been told, "Just sit this one out, Christian."

Guess he never "checked down" to reality.

I feel bad for him, he's a terrible QB but a regular human being. But this should not be a surprise at all. He looked quite down when Cassel was playing and winning, none of his usual jokes and smiles like when we are losing. He looked down when interviewed several days ago, saying inexplicably "I'm the starter if I'm healthy" or words to that effect.

And somewhere out there a shepherd is looking for his lost sheep. The "broken" rib next to his heart was so severe he was cleared to play just 2 weeks later. And all along Frazier has been saying Ponder would start when he's healthy. Now he's healthy but still not starting. A healthy superstar not starting? Color me confused.

And at what point does optimism become delusion? If I say I believe the flaming bag of dog crap on my front step gives us a great chance of winning a Superbowl I'm probably delusional, but if you substitute the flaming bag of dog crap on my front step with Christian Ponder it somehow makes you optimistic even though both give your roughly the same chance of winning a Superbowl.

And since you've anointed yourself the optimism police around here, you can update my rap sheet ... I'm down on Frazier, but I'm coming around on the uniforms. The more I see em the better they look (in comparison to the old uni's).

I feel bad for him
Why? He's made a ton of money. Despite a sub-par job. If I'm working with a guy who isn't carrying his weight, I want him fired regardless of how good of a human being he is. Same goes for the quarterback of an NFL team times ten. He was reached for, over paid, performed poorly. He's got a knock out wife, a huge bank account, and 29 starts in the NFL. He's accomplished more than 99% of people do in their lifetime. Including a solid collegiate career, even more so academically apparently. He has plenty of options at this point in his life, and he isn't even 25 years old. And you feel bad for him?
