They improved by 7 wins and made the playoffs. Those aren't accomplishments worth appreciating? Is it only possible to enjoy or appreciate a season if the team wins the Super Bowl?

We've done this dance. Over and over again. The only reason they're worth appreciating is because of what's happened previous to them. They improved 7 wins because THEY only had 3 the season before! Sorry that doesn't cut it. They never should have had that 3 win season, and they sure are #### shouldn't get cut any slack because they improve on the worst back to back seasons in team history. Falling in the toilet is still falling in the toilet, even if you lift yourself out afterward.

Back to back winning seasons and playoff appearances? Now you're getting somewhere....and that's something worth appreciating. Have some sustained success and maybe you'll cut down on the complaints? Nah, fans are just suppose to eat whatever the home team is cooking, and like it. That's what makes you a fan.

The point is that they improved. As a Vikings fan, isn't that what you want from them? Are you so bitter and unforgiving that you can't appreciate that at all? They can't have the back-to-back playoff seasons you say you'd consider worth appreciating without getting the first playoff season and they just did that. They can't get to the Super Bowl without first getting to the playoffs and they can't do that without building a good team, which is what they appear to be doing.

You're illustrating exactly what the column at the beginning of this thread was all about.

Exactly Jim. What a strange argument to intimate that winning over three times as many games than the year before is insignificant and not worth appreciating because of the fact that 3-13 was such a poor record the year before
This team was/is in a rebuilding mode since last year and most people that know anything about football were amazed for the quick turn around. The four ending wins which secured an unimaginable play-off birth and the fact that they might have actually won the game if not for the injury to Ponder is hard to discount (at least for most fans).
This team is definately headed in the right direction and I would say this, to clear up any doubt, if Ponder does not continue to improve and thrive this year then I would applaud the team for using Cassell or any other QB that can "drive" the team. This is his year do or die.
Go Vikes

Sadly, there are a lot of fans who are like that. Honestly though, I feel kind of bad for them. I wouldn't imagine I would enjoy sports much at all if I felt that way. I suppose I'd be mean all the time, too. :) That's their deal, though. Don't let it stress you. Everyone is different. The world would be boring if everyone shared the same opinion about everything. Ya know?

I went to training camp last year and that was fun. The end of last year was fun for me as a fan. I even went to the playoff game at Lambeau and that was fun too despite the loss. All in all, a fun season. How can anyone complain about 10-6? The "problem" as I see it is the Vikings never suck for years on end, making them perennially close but not close enough. We've had this discussion before, but I find their historical ability to bounce back remarkable and a season like last no "problem" at all. I'm also remarkably excited about what GM Spielman and Coach Frazier might do for an encore this year. It's a great time to be a Viking fan. Just IMHO.

I would honestly be happy with last year, if we only had a QB. We don't. And if AD gets hurt (god forbid!) we will find this out. The Vikes have ignored the QB spot too long. Its mind blowing. And please no one Bring up Pep. He just had a good arm and one of the best WRs to play the game to close his eyes and throw as hard as he could to. Oh and fumble every other snap.

We got Cassel for a backup. Cassel.....and who are we training as our 3rd string?

I've been a Vikes fan my whole life but I didn' really get into them and watch most games until the Dennis Green era. I can say without a doubt that this HC/GM combo is the very first time I've felt like the organization is being run professionally and intelligently.
Yes, precisely. There were a lot of question marks when Spielman took the helm as GM but he's had way too many good decisions to chalk it up to dumb luck at this point. Outstanding draft picks, good trades, you name it. Spielman has impressed me. And Frazier is just the kind of motivated, smart coach to make things work. Sure, it's possible the Vikes could implode this season, but the GM and coach have positioned them well to succeed. This is how the best franchises are run these days, and I'm very optimistic for the future.

That's one thing to be positive about, Frazier is the best coach we've had in decades.
Spielman seems to be improving even though his free agent signings always seem kind of questionable his drafts seem to be solid lately.
And our owner is no longer worried more about staying above the league minimum spending, and about staying below the cap.

Falling in the toilet is still falling in the toilet, even if you lift yourself out afterward.
Corporal Johnson fell into a toilet once. It was in Korea, he was in the latrine when a surprise attack by Chinese troops came. Right away, a grenade hit the very latrine he was in, the toilet under him flew sideways and down he went. The tent collapsed above him and when he first moved to get up and climb out he discovered he couldn't move his leg thanks to some shell fragments from the grenade. So he sat there, huddled in urine, feces, and all the crawly things that like to hang out in urine in feces; and listened to the battle overhead for the next 3 hours. Finally, after things settled down he heard some members of his company talking above and called out to them. An hour later they had him out of there and cleaned up, shell fragments removed and he was able to move his leg again.

A few minutes later his CO dropped by to see him and was surprised by his foul mood.
"What's the matter, Corporal", he asked, "Aren't you glad to be out of the latrine?"
"In all honesty Sir", replied Corporal Johnson, "I don't see how it makes a difference. I mean the Vikings still have a terrible quarterback!"
This signature predicted the great 2014 - 2025 Vikings dynasty!
