Man, I love watching that KO return by Cordarrelle! And yes, Mauti is moving!
Mauti ran a 4.6/40 for Penn State, which isn't bad but means absolutely nothing. 40 yard times are done in shorts and against a stopwatch. Put the pads on and play ball, and suddenly some guys look faster or slower than they time.
Mauti's football speed has to do with good vision and picking good lanes, or at least it did for Penn State. I would say he definitely has good football speed for a LB.
What a great kid!! If he can come back (like he has so far) and stay healthy, the Vikes MLB question will be answered.
If anyone is interested this is a great, touching video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_MnWmZWITnk

Just FYI, he played almost exclusively outside at Penn State. If they like Cole in the middle, I don't see why Mauti couldn't play outside for the Vikes.
Yes I know that (I watched Penn State quite a few times) but when he was drafted there was talk about moving him into the middle and I would like to see him there calling the defensive calls.
At 6-2 245 and with great speed hopefully he will crack the line-up this year. He reminds me a whole lot of Scott Studwell (even looks and size wise).

Yes. Mauti was a projected 1-2 round pick if it wasn't for his injuries. I absolutely love this kid and i think there is no doubt he should be given a shot. He would be a GREAT leader for this defense. The guy has a motor that never stops. This was another reason why I questioned Frazier's judgement of talent because i HIGHLY doubt Marvin Mitchell was that much better than Mauti and even Hodges but neither of them were given a shot. Marvin Mitchell was a journeyman for a reason. He had no right to be starting for this team let alone any team in the NFL. I would be all for Mauti starting for us next year whether it be inside or outside.

I don't think anyone wants to see Mauti playing outside linebacker. He's the prototypical NFL middle linebacker, and if he's healthy enough to play every down, that's where he should be starting.
It certainly would be nice if he continues to develop and would be able to play in the middle next season. If we do end up changing to the 3-4, we would need two guys to play the inside, and in that case, I could definitely see him getting a shot. Anything beats Erin Henderson.

Henderson burnt his last bridge with that last arrest. I see Mauti, Hodges, Cole, Greenway and a high draft pick comprising the bulk of the linebacking corp. and perhaps Bishop (he says that he wants to come back).

What I am wondering out loud is why Gerald Hodges never got a shot this year. Hodges is a converted safety. He would definitely be a huge upgrade in coverage.

If Mitchell got hurt maybe Frazier would have given him a shot

Holy Balls! Until he pulled up he was stride for stride with Patterson. Unreal!
