Re: Carlson restructures

Re: Carlson restructures
All indications are that last year was an anomaly. I am glad he should that he is a team player and did restructure. I thought some of his run blocking was pretty clutch too which is what we need as well as catching.
Re: Carlson restructures
From what I understood, he was supposed to make 2.9 $M this year, 1.2 being guaranteed money.
Now, his base salary will be 1.3 $M, the rest being some incentives to get to 3 $M.
Either he'll earn that money or save us some cap space.
Of course, it depends of how high the incentives are in term of field-production.

Re: Carlson restructures
This was a GREAT move! It really helps us a lot in terms money. As a player, he did not play up to his salary level. I really think this shows a real strength of character for Carlson. He could have told the vikings "no" I suppose, but he didn't. Hopefully this is a good sign that Carleson sees our teams needs and put them above his own. That kind of player is welcome on my team any day.
Re: Carlson restructures
+1 This wasn't a move he had to do, the Vikings were on the hook to pay him but he manned up and took a cut because of his abysmal performance last year. I don't see how this can be perceived as anything but a positive for the team.Delaqure wrote:This was a GREAT move! It really helps us a lot in terms money. Re: Carlson restructures
I think its a brilliant move to resign/restructure the pair of them.
Everyone knows that Simpson has had his moments and Carlson has been productive before. For him to restructure says a lot about the man and that's the type of guy I want in the team. Saying that, he needs a better year this time round and will be given more field time with rookie WRs. Rudolph is always going to be target #1 in the TEs though so Carlson ain't going to light up but can still earn his wage. Not much else available for that money and we aren't going to be picking a TE early in the draft.
Can Gerhart catch? I know he can fumble

Didn't want to start a new thread.
Charlie Johnson - G - Vikings
Vikings LG Charlie Johnson has agreed to restructure his contract.
The new deal lowers Johnson's base salary by $500,000 and reduces his 2013 cap number to $3.85 million. While it doesn't give the Vikings much financial relief, it's a necessary move after Johnson vastly underperformed last season. He could face competition for his starting job.

Wouldn't it make more sense to release him?dead_poet wrote:Didn't want to start a new thread.

Re: Carlson restructures
Would have made a lot of sense to release him if we could have got Vasquez for what the Broncos paid. At least the whole Dumervil thing makes me feel a little better about their offseason.
