If they both lower their heads it'll be helmet to helmet won't it? It would make sense that would be a defensive penalty.

Offsetting penalties?

Maybe it will be like the NBA. The bigger-name star player will get the call in his favor

Its stupid, just like most rules the NFL is comings out with. They are afraid of lawers, and they want to put more power in the hands of Refs. Pretty soon it will be as exciting as watching girls basketball.

It's BS, but I don't see it being called too often. Hopefully.

Stupid rule but one I have to embrace because my field of study has a philosophy consistent with what the NFL passed.

You don't understand the rule. You can still lower your head and slam into your offensive line all you'd like. But if you want to hit your own linemen with the crown of your helmet, then you've got bigger problems than not understanding the rule.

Per @CaptainComeback, A.P. could have been flagged for 11 "crown rule" penalties in 2011-12. How many for suspension?

I don't like this at all..

RB are often in piles of DL and LB's ..

I can see where this could really hurt a running back too.. If they are unable to to get small
they could be crushed by much bigger defenders

They played a clip from Emmit Smith on ESPN saying what a stupid and unsafe rule it was.

Okay no one seems to know this, and I don't know if the this thread is dead or not, but here we go.

This rule seems to be for running backs, clearly. Obviously the play that comes to mind for this rule is Trent Richardson popping that safety in the eagles game. But I'm thinking to the play for the 09 Vikings where Peterson leveled Gay. I looked it up and had forgotten he was a receiver on that play. Does anyone know if what he did would be illegal?

So here's what i got from this rule.

Instead of leading with your head down(eyes to the ground) they want your eyes up(like every offensive/defensive linemen was trained)

That sounds like a bigger hazard to the player's neck than leading with your eyes down. Take a shoulder to the forehead because you're looking ahead and your neck snaps back sounds alot more painful than jamming your neck.

Yeah along with millions of others. Why? I got tired of listening to the same bs on all the other 99% of radio/news.
