Re: Which QB would you want the most in the draft?
I'd take Carr. He has the best arm in the draft and he's as athletic as the other QB's.
Combine #s
Carr 4.69 40 34.5 vert
Manzeil 4.68 40 31.5 vert
Bortles 4.93 40 32.5 vert
Teddy 30.0 vert didn't run the 40
Here is a highlight of Carr with some plays from 2011 when he ran a pro style offense. He completes about 30 passes that travel 40 plus yards. I think he gets inproperly labeled as Ponder 2.0.

Forget highlights, go download some games and watch them. Selecting the "best of" isn't going to give you any real idea. Watch them for an entire game. (Preferably gameS)

McCaron from Bama in round two ..
and a back up undrafted or late round pick
Ponder will be gone after next year.. if he lasts that long

Zimmer: Vikings 'looking so hard' to find QB
"We are going to get some quarterbacks, obviously those two guys (Matt Cassell and Josh Freeman) are free agents and Ponder is still on the roster," Zimmer said. "But we have to have a quarterback, so we are going to have to find some and that is why we are out here looking so hard and why we'll continue to look in free agency. We'll find a guy."
And more from Zimmer on NFL AM this morning: http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap200000 ... -find-a-qbSomewhere Ponder is hearing, 'we'll find a guy,' thinking to himself, 'ummmm, coach, I'm right here. I am on the team still, right?'
It likely wasn't Zimmer's intention to slight Ponder, who he inherited, and merely was discussing the need to fill at least two quarterback spots.
However, after listening to general manager Rick Spielman's comments from the past week and Zimmer's comments, it's clear the organization no longer views Ponder as the future of the franchise -- despite the fact that he'll be on the roster next season.

It's just a coincidence that you happen to be from Alabama, right?King James wrote:AJ is nothing like Ponder. Ponder only had ONE good year and that was his senior season. McCarron has put up four good years of dominance that led to two national championships. Ponder has never been considered as a Heisman candidate. As for McCarron's arm strength, if you've watched any game tape, you can see that McCarron can throw the field.
If you watch his highlights again LSU at the national championship game, you can see that he expose that entire secondary and threw all over the place. As for indecisive he rips the ball out so quick and knows where the WRs are gonna be, so how is he indecisive?
It's clear that many of you don't know QB talent outside of 1st round. Y'all probably still hoping that we get JF or TB? No QB is worth the Vikes taking in the 1st round. We will be better of getting a guy in the later rounds. Like AJ. Stop looking at stats on the internet and actually look at his game film. The only bad game I can see from him was the last game he has against Oklahoma. Other than that he has been solid.

When you watch the interview, it's pretty clear that, as the author of the article stated, Zimmer wasn't trying to slight Ponder. However, it's also clear that the Vikings are (wisely) looking beyond Ponder for a solution to their QB issues. Hopefully, Ponder himself is using all of this as motivation and will play his best football when he gets whatever opportunities he receives to play. The guy is the subject of so much hatred and vitriol but I think he's conducted himself well as a Viking so I still wish him well and if the team needs him, I want to see him rise to the occasion, as he has in his best games.
I continue to like Zimmer's attitude and I have a feeling we're going to see a very defense-oriented draft from the Vikings, which would make sense.

Here's my top five outside of the big three:
1) Carr
2) Giaropolo (sp?)
3) Mettenberger
4) Boyd
5) McCarron
Note that I have no real basis for my opinions other than a couple youtube highlight videos and my own preconceived biases.

I'm starting to grow weary of Manziel. I wouldn't hesitate to take Bridgewater at 8 & I'd probably be ok with Bortles there too, but I think I'm in the camp of veteran FA, round 1 defensive stud, round 2 or 3 developmental QB.

Re: Which QB would you want the most in the draft?
Where I live has nothing to do with my decision. There's other QBs in mid rounds I think we should get too if not McCarron like Aaron Murray, Jimmy Garroppollo, and Mettenburger. But if u were to ask which I want the most, it be McCarron. I actually like Auburn over Alabama. But I like certain players from Alabama like McCarron, CJ Mosley, and Ha-Ha Clinton Dix.maembe wrote:

And I've watch Alabama and Auburn games on TV and live for years. I watched these two teams before I became a Vikings fan. What I seen from McCarron is something I've never seen from most Bama QBs. John Parker Wilson sucked, which is why he went undrafted. Nick Saban really turned that team around though. You can look at Wilson's college stats, he has no honors or anything. To compare him to McCarron isn't even right.
Now McElroy was slightly good. Only had 2 years as a starter though. His arm strength wasn't all that great and from what I seen from him in the NFL. He was put in a bad situation (NY Jets) and plagued with injuries.
McCarron is nothing like these two. He's more fluent with his passes. Perfect timing with WRs. Very quick to release the ball and has a knack of knowing when the WR is going to get open. Has thrown PLENTY of accurate deep balls
He completed 67% of his passes in his career. Only one percent less than JFB and Teddy Bridgewater.

I think my dream scenario would be Re-sign Cassel, Draft a QB in the second round, whatever is best available, train him under Cassel for a year and see what happens. If he doesn't pan out- Draft Mariota next year- I think that guy is a beast! SKOL

Re: Which QB would you want the most in the draft?
A lot would likely have to go wrong for the Vikings to be in position to draft Mariota next year. Who knows what kind of season he's going to have either? It's really difficult to project next year's option when we haven't even made it to this year's draft.Malm88 wrote:I think my dream scenario would be Re-sign Cassel, Draft a QB in the second round, whatever is best available, train him under Cassel for a year and see what happens. Re: Which QB would you want the most in the draft?
I totally agree with you, I would hate for us to throw more draft picks away to the lowest ranking team next year, but I just think Mariota is the most well rounded and most ready to step into the NFL.

You want to train him under Cassell. Watch the Bengals Vikings game this last year and then tell me that. Cassell is a journyman QB at BEST. He has had many many opprotunities to prove himself worthy and has ended up "crumbling". Look at how he ended his career with the Chiefs. Sadly I think that he will end up back on the roster but hopefully just as a backup.Malm88 wrote:I think my dream scenario would be Re-sign Cassel, Draft a QB in the second round, whatever is best available, train him under Cassel for a year and see what happens. I am rooting for Bortles to make it to the 8th pick.
Do not mistake KINDNESS for WEAKNESS!

I do like Bortles the most out of the "top 3" QBs. If he drops to 8th pick than grab him, if not than focus on plugging up defensive holes.Purple bruise wrote: You want to train him under Cassell.
