I think this is a good move. Obviously they like him better than what they have.

He fits the system better than Howell did. We was also able to trade Howell which is a plus.
Think we’re in a better spot quarterback wise now.

Ehh, Carson has never been the same since his knee injury

You are all missing the point. Wentz has been on teams (as a non-starter) that have won the super bowl. :gone:

He did throw 27 TDs with 7 Ints for Indy in 2021. That's not exactly garbage play. Andy Reid kept him around.

I see there are three threads on the QBs, so I'm going to just respond on this one since it deals with the latest addition.

I'm a little surprised that the Vikings gave up on Sam Howell so quickly. Yes, he looked terrible in the 2nd preseason game and I don't know what he was like in the locker room or off the field, but they did give up a 5th round pick to obtain him and one would hope they did their homework before making that move. Howell wasn't really all that different than Sam Darnold in terms of a reclamation project, so he must have really underwhelmed to get shipped so quickly.

As for Carson Wentz, he can't be worse than Howell but I don't think he can be better than Darnold. He's the definition of the vet journeyman. Worst-case scenario he ends up doing what Jim McMahon did for the Vikings in the early 90's. Hopefully it won't come to that and McCarthy will play the entire season.

As for Rypien, I was surprised he didn't do more with his opportunity. I think he's got more talent than he showed in his preseason action where he looked unsure and ineffective for the most part.

And lastly, Max Brosmer... What can be said about him? He looked fantastic when he was on the field. He looked calm and in command, decisive and accurate. Not flawless, but if someone told me he was undrafted I would have thought they were joking. I understand why the Vikings want a veteran QB on the roster and I understand Brosmer hasn't done anything yet in real game situations that could shed more light on how good he really is, but if McCarthy were to get hurt and KOC decided to trot Brosmer out to take his place behind center, I wouldn't be upset.

But here's hoping for health at the offensive skill positions and along the line this year. McCarthy will get his chance to show what he can do.

They didn't give up a 5th for him, they just moved down in the round. As far as draft capital they actually did quite well moving him. I'm glad they had it in them to just call a spade a spade and move on.

Max Brosmer earned his spot for sure. If McCarthy goes down I'd actually prefer for him to play and see what the Vikings have in him.

I missed that detail, so the move wasn't as questionable as I've been thinking it was.

Howell looked really good in that first preseason game. I know there had been rumbles that he wasn't getting the job done in training camp, but obviously there was good basis for those rumblings. He looked terrible in the second game.

I suspect KOC would not start Brosmer if McCarthy goes down but you never know for sure. Brosmer has obviously impressed the coaching staff and if he displays enough professionalism I wouldn't be shocked to see him get a chance if McCarthy can't go. Carson Wentz should be a better option than Sam Howell but I think the best he could do if called to action would be to keep the wheels on the bus.

Bros B4 Hoesmer may have "looked" good in preseason, but he only completed 60% of his attempts at 6.3 yards per attempt. I'm completely underwhelmed by him. Easy choice to go with Wentz over him.

In our current position the coaching staff will put Wentz in if something happens to JJM. They need to try and win games. Someone like Wentz with his experience and proven potential to play some good football in a real game is the only choice. When it gets later and if we are eliminated then I could see Brosmer getting some playing time. Preseason stats can be hard to translate as to what will take place once the season gets rolling. Kyle Sloter fooled me big time. I thought we hit the jackpot.
