Metellus is a presence in the secondary and I think Flores trusts him. I also think as an athlete he has a higher upside than Bynum did even if Bynum was a more polished player.

He'll definitely get the chance to make his mark this year with Harrison Smith's career winding down and Bynum no longer on the team. We'll know if this was a good move pretty quickly I think.

I'm looking forward to Theo Jackson. He seems to be a Bynum type which is a ball athlete.
Zulgad shared on social media that, "There was no Josh Metellus hold-in on Day 1 of Vikings camp. He took part in all drills. He was used as the starting safety in base opposite Harrison Smith and Theo Jackson replaced him at safety when Metellus moved around."

If they use Metellus as the roaming piece, as Zulgad's post suggests they may be doing, Jackson would fit seamlessly into the playmaking role that Bynum found himself in. The defense thrived in the turnovers he was able to force in 2024, and they need them again in 2025 if the team wants to sniff a chance at winning the NFC North.
