I Thought Zimmer was OK, but Satan, come on, he didn't actually nail anyone to a cross. I don't dilute it with water. If Cousins comes here and 2018 you better bring your A game and win. National media at the time was calling it maybe the worst Free Agent pickup in NFL history, and the Jets dodge a bullet. Try reading more than Kirks highlight film and playing card stats. I never claimed to be a Zimmer fan. I sure 2017 saved his job. He may have been an A hole, but Kirk can take part of the blame as well usually both sides are A holes. Your one sided and bias because Kirk can do no wrong in your eyes. He's now has 2 divorces from in his Career. I don't believe the Owner in WA really didn't like him either. Apparently Mike Zimmer. Maybe It really is Kirk.

Great non sequitur.Pondering Her Percy wrote: ↑Mon Sep 12, 2022 8:27 pmYeah they showed a stat in the game that had to do with pre snap motions. Last year kupp had 197 pre snap motions which was 1st in the nfl. Jefferson had 94 which was 33rd in the nfl. This just goes to show the difference of a new age offense compared to one looked over by a dinosaur in Mike Zimmer. Many guys wanted to continue to blame cousins the last few years or Spielman the last few years but yesterday, KOC and Cousins shoved one up Mike Zimmers as# and showed what a new culture and new offense brings to this team.cmoss84 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 12, 2022 3:09 pm
Was wondering the same until Greg Olson mentioned it during the broadcast (he is a really solid analyst). He said JJ kept lining up in different spots, forcing GB to make a choice. If they were to shadow Jaire Alexander on him, the rest of the coverage would have been screwed up, so they rolled the dice and kept to their game plan, in which JJ was often lined up opposite Alexander.
Let’s not forget, a huge portion of this team is Rick Spielmans draft picks and talent finds…..
QB
RB
All 3 WRs
TE
3 of 5 offensive lineman (won’t count Bradbury)
1 of 3 interior DL
1 of 2 OLBs
1 of 2 MLBs
Both starting corners
Both starting safeties.
Kicker
Kick returner
That’s 18/26ish starters. 70% of the starting lineup.
Granted Spielman had to fall due to Zimmer. And I think Kwesi has done an excellent job so far changing this culture and bringing in more talent. But if the season ended today, all fingers point to who I said was the problem all along, Mike Zimmer. Not Rick Spielman, not Cousins. Zimmer. But there’s still a long way to go and we can’t jump the gun too soon, but we all know where the fingers is at least starting to point.
Side note: Alex Boone talked on the purple daily podcast the other day and told some brutal Zimmer stories but actually praised Spielman and really liked Spielman. Something else that speaks volumes on Spielmans part coming from a former player. But looks terrible for zimmer, as he’s been one of many former players to throw Zim under the bus

Re: Vikings vs. Packers Postgame
I think the Packers have a pretty stout front 7 and played the run very well. I'm still not sure how the Vikings wound up with the rushing yardage they wound up with, but there were never any gaping holes or total breakdowns in run defense for the Packers.fiestavike wrote: ↑Mon Sep 12, 2022 9:46 am Areas of concern include Dalvin Cook for me. Cook looked to me like he was running patient. In the past he'd just hit a seam and go, but against the Packers it looked like he was looking for something to open up before he hit it.
Also, Mattison played a lot of snaps. It seemed almost like Cook and Mattison were rotating drives more than Mattison spelling Cook as we've seen in past years. I wonder if this is all a strategy on the part of KOC to increase the likelihood that Cook will remain healthy all year and more effective towards the end of the year. Under Zimmer, he rode Cook's performance in the early part of the season, Cook would usually get hurt at some point, and then he would not be nearly as effective. KOC looks like he wants to reduce that focus on Cook a bit, probably to the longer-term benefit of everyone.
I saw what you saw, but I'm chalking it up to a strategy and coaching more than Cook declining per se. Time will tell, of course, but if Cook can stay healthy I think he ends up a top 5 back this year.

I read somewhere that Cook's snap count was what he typically averaged last year, but Cook had 48 snaps compared to Mattison's 14.VikingLord wrote: ↑Tue Sep 13, 2022 3:40 pmI think the Packers have a pretty stout front 7 and played the run very well. After those first couple of series Cook seemed to run just fine to me.

Not exactly flattery for Kirk right away. And they should have played it out on the 3rd year. If he can't handle that pressure he will never win a super bowl.phantom wrote: ↑Tue Sep 13, 2022 4:43 pmMike Florio NBC Sports his words not minePondering Her Percy wrote: ↑Tue Sep 13, 2022 1:45 pm

Mannion for a backup. Don't put any pressure on Kirk, because everyone who has won the super bowl never had to handle pressure.

Re: Vikings vs. Packers Postgame
The National Media mostly considered the Vikings signing of Cousins to be very good. Maybe a year later when the Vikings struggled during Kirk's first year some jumped off the bandwagon. I placed a bet on Kirk winning MVP before the season started at 40-1. Odds are already down to 22-1. The Casino is offering me extra money to cash out my bet now.Pondering Her Percy wrote: ↑Tue Sep 13, 2022 1:45 pmThen clearly you're missing a lot of key information.

Phantom all this does is prove you wrong. You said National Media at the time of the signing were calling it the worst Free Agent pickup of all time. This was not from the time he was signed. It was 4 games into the second season. Also they said it wasn't looking good, but they weren't willing to call him the biggest big money bust either. They also talked about Kirk playing great under great pressure. That season we went to the playoffs and advanced by beating a very good Saints team that few thought we could on the strength of a great game from Cousins including the OT TD pass to Rudy with two Saints defenders in his face.phantom wrote: ↑Tue Sep 13, 2022 4:43 pmMike Florio NBC Sports his words not minePondering Her Percy wrote: ↑Tue Sep 13, 2022 1:45 pm

Re: Vikings vs. Packers Postgame
Denial is so ugly. Mike Florio, not the other guy clearly said the Jets dodged a bullet (Not a good free agent pickup for the Vikes) Did he think it was the worst maybe, or at least not a good pickup at the time. Probably why he title it that way. So twist the words around so it can fit your opinion. Sorry VikingsVictorious i see you all over this site and you are clearly a want a be sports writer. Sorry SI hasn't called you yet. Sorry your blog hasn't been published yet. Sorry everyone isn't in love with Kirk. I expected way more from a guy who came into a situation like that. Comes off as I am the missing piece to the puzzle. The Vikings Organization doesn't want to admit there wrong. and don't want to eat the money.VikingsVictorious wrote: ↑Tue Sep 13, 2022 6:01 pmPhantom all this does is prove you wrong. Re: Vikings vs. Packers Postgame
Ive never been a Cousins fan, and I agree, for what he has been paid, he isnt worth it. A few playoff game. The thing is though, I think all of us saw Kirk open up his game. Take more chance, and a couple awesome moves inside the pocket, and I think both passes he made doing that amounted in first downs. Im not sure what the 3rd down percentage was but it had to have been better than before. And if we run into a team with poor run stopping, and Cook gets hot, kirk will kill, esp if he gets some rollouts. I am optimistic.

Re: Vikings vs. Packers Postgame
Kirk's lowest depth of target any of his seasons as a Viking: 7.9
Kirk's depth of target on Sunday: 5.1 (31st out of 33 QBs)
% of passes that were deep passes last year: 12.7
% of passes deep passes on Sunday : 6.5 (23rd)
Pass run ratio 2021: 58%
Pass run ration on Sunday: 54%
It was a much more conservative game plan Sunday than we saw on average the last couple of seasons, probably because the Vikings didn't need to be aggressive to remain in the game. My guess is we will see the training wheels come off next Sunday against an offense with much better weapons, but the myth that the offense we saw on Sunday was more explosive or aggressive than years past is just that.

Re: Vikings vs. Packers Postgame
I went back and looked at the box score and you are right - it wasn't close to even in terms of snaps or carries. It seemed like it was for some reason.StumpHunter wrote: ↑Tue Sep 13, 2022 4:11 pm I read somewhere that Cook's snap count was what he typically averaged last year, but Cook had 48 snaps compared to Mattison's 14.
Something seemed different about Cook. I'm not sure what it was now, but everything I wrote about Cook and Mattison has to go out the window.
