Are you sure they went all in. Our D was destroyed by some backup QB in the NFC Champ game. Don't you think they over looked that beaten to death performance. No great D plays like that. Especially against a stiff backup QB. They over looked that piece. They were still thinking shutting out the Packers was the best D we ever had. For that game yes but the Packers had no team that year and nothing at QB. They didn't see that D wasn't what it appeared to be. Good teams were able to put points up on that D. In 2018 we couldn't shut out the Packers. They moved the ball great. That team wasn't what they thought it was and many things contributed to that so called magical 2017 season including the Packers having no QB. The Lions with Super Bowl winner Stafford couldn't score against us. That team was terrible. They stuck with the same players too long. Rhodes never played like he did in 2017 again. Two straight season of garbage. Griffen went awall and it went on and on. Under Rick we never had a decent FG kicker. Still don't. That 2017 made it far but many things contributed to that including no competition in our division and a miracle win. All that don't matter as they need to determine next steps for the now. One of them better be keeping a good QB under center.
You might have a point on that 2017 D if Bill Bellicheck's D didn't get beat much worse by the same stiff QB 2 weeks later. It was a fluke that Foles did what he did against the Vikings and the Patriots, something that would not have happened if both those teams had a season of film of Foles being successful in that offense. Wentz is at the helm and I still think we lose, because Case was giving the Eagles points, regardless of what our D did, but it is at least closer, and I doubt the Eagles win the SB.

2018 the Vikings' D got off to a bad start, mostly because of the sudden and weird departure of one of the defensive captains. After that the D played 3 top 10 offenses, averaging 20 points against in those 3 losses. This, despite the offense doing everything it could to give the opposition great field position and keep our D on the field in those three games.

It was an elite D in 2017, and was still really good in 2018 where they actually added a solid veteran DT to the only spot on the D that was missing a quality starter.
We all have opinions about what happened. I saw it and my opinion is different. 2018 Griff went bonkers and that hurt big time. Our new people need to figure out the quickest path to success otherwise us older folks will never see another Super Bowl win or lose. That needs to start on D. If we go 3-4 we are years away because we don't have 4 LBers or depth for that position group. Yes there will be FA stiffs who other teams let walk. You can't build that way. If they do that type of thing break the entire group up and basically tank a season while still acting like you are trying. I hate that approach because I don't think that's the best or quickest path. Time will tell soon enough.

Guys, it’s 2:42 pm on Monday the 14th. Why haven’t we heard anything official about O’Connell yet?

Maybe I just have too much time on my hands, but I’m starting to get worried.

Talk me off the ledge?

I saw this earlier today and immediately stopped reading. Lol. Didn't want to go down the thought path.

The "what if"...mcvay retired.

Hoping they *are just getting multiple people all on the same page. Maybe coordinators?

This would be a classic Vikings organization type of event! I saw this earlier, and Ooof... I'm hoping it's speculation, but let's just say that as a Vikings fan, I wouldn't be surprised to see Lucy pull the proverbial football out from under us once again.

Good news is if he’s as bad as some people here think, and he had little to nothing to do with that explosive super bowl winning offense; the Rams won’t want him….

I think I heard last night (during the SB) that the plan was for an announcement either Tuesday or Wednesday. Did anyone else hear that? It may have been on the pre-game show.

I realize this could be foolish. But I trust KOC to not be like Josh McDaniels. Even if people think McVay will retire, which he won't. From what I have read about KOC's interviews, the reason why the Vikings chose him over Harbaugh is simply he wanted it more. He came prepared and show ownership and KAM that he was meant for this team.

I'm guessing you're trying to attribute to me saying he's bad. I don't believe I have ever said that. Go back and check as many of my posts as it takes to find one where I say he's bad. Others have expressed the same skepticism as me.

I still think it's odd that we are signing assistants, but not a HC.

I meant a “bad hire”. Or “wrong hire”. Either way it’s splitting hairs because if people didn’t think he was the bad hire, they wouldn’t think he was a bad coach. Conversely, if people think he was a “good hire” they’d likely think he was a good coach. I don’t see a scenario where one would believe he’s a good coach but it was a bad hire.

I don’t think it makes a difference. The guy isn’t even 24 hours from winning a super bowl. He’s likely enjoying the moment, saying his goodbyes, rounding out his staff, and will be formally announced in the next couple days. I’m excited to see what he’s made of.

Hey, this isn’t my fault. Last week, multiple media outlets said he could be announced on Feb. 14. I realize the operative word is “could,” but with all the “McVay might retire” nonsense going on, I’m feeling a little anxious.

IMO Harbaugh would have been the better hire. That doesn't mean O'Connell was a bad hire. We will never know how Harbaugh would have worked out. In the Super Bowl the creative unstoppable Rams offense scored 23 points. Stafford threw 2 Ints. The new offense might be great, but I thought people were overreacting to a bunch of lines drawn on a monitor.
