Again, if it was a forgone conclusion, it would be a non-story. They ask because not everyone does it or has done it historically.
I would like you to consider this. A list of #1 teams in a conference that rested week 17 and the results. Way too many losses for my liking. These are teams that typically did not have question marks over their heads.
Year Team End result
2007 Cowboys Finished 13-3, lost first playoff game to the Giants
2008 Giants Finished 12-4, lost first playoff game to the Eagles
2008 Titans Finished 13-3, lost first playoff game to the Ravens
2009 Saints Finished 13-3, won the Super Bowl
2009 Colts Finished 14-2, lost to the Saints in the Super Bowl
2010 Patriots Finished 14-2, lost first playoff game to the Jets
2011 Packers Finished 15-1, lost first playoff game to the Giants
2014 Patriots Finished 12-4, won the Super Bowl
2016 Cowboys Finished 13-3, lost first playoff game to the Packers
2017 Eagles Finished 13-3, won the Super Bowl

Like I said in the beginning. I disagree. You don’t risk injury to your QB or a star player like Diggs in a meaningless gameYikesVikes wrote: ↑Wed Jan 01, 2020 2:27 pmRest the injured. Play others.Pondering Her Percy wrote: ↑Wed Jan 01, 2020 12:50 am

Re: 2019 Vikings are total FRAUDS!!!!
I'm late to this, but it was the holidays.
IMO, we saw a bad game plan on MNF that was exasperated by injuries to our star running backs. To me the major story of that game was that past Mattison our RB depth is garbage. This was proven out early vs. the Bears with Mike Boone's two turnovers.
I want to believe that against the Saints the Viking will get back to what has worked for them this sesaon. I suppose we'll see.

As is well known, our OL does not excel at this type of pass protection, especially when it isn't benefiting from a strong rushing attack.

It was odd to see so little stretch and boot action against GB, and I can't help wonder if that is because we didn't have RBs who effectively run those plays active that night?mansquatch wrote: ↑Thu Jan 02, 2020 10:24 am I'm late to this, but it was the holidays.

I watched that game and the whole time it felt like I was watching a different offense. I think they ran one screen pass in the 4Q. It felt like they didn't do any of the things that let them keep other strong pass rushes we've faced at bay. (DEN and SEA both come to mind.) Can't explain it. Just hoping that having our two studs back vs. NO will get them back on track.fiestavike wrote: ↑Thu Jan 02, 2020 10:41 amIt was odd to see so little stretch and boot action against GB, and I can't help wonder if that is because we didn't have RBs who effectively run those plays active that night?mansquatch wrote: ↑Thu Jan 02, 2020 10:24 am I'm late to this, but it was the holidays.

Re: 2019 Vikings are total FRAUDS!!!!
Arif did a nice write up about why the Vikings couldn't do roll outs against the Packers. It wasn't because Stefanski just decided out of the blue to not do what was working in previous games. GB took away what we did well, and what we tried to do instead didn't work.mansquatch wrote: ↑Thu Jan 02, 2020 11:20 amI watched that game and the whole time it felt like I was watching a different offense. Expect the Saints to do the same, and we will see what the Vikings come up with to overcome it.
Re: 2019 Vikings are total FRAUDS!!!!
We'll see if NO has the tools to pull it off. It's possible that GB's personnel is just a better fit for accomplishing that. Well, at least I hope so. It could be a long day if NO can do the same, that's for sure.StumpHunter wrote: ↑Thu Jan 02, 2020 12:18 pm Arif did a nice write up about why the Vikings couldn't do roll outs against the Packers. Re: 2019 Vikings are total FRAUDS!!!!
I haven't seen Arif's commentary, but part of the reason Dalvin Cook ran for 154 yards in the first meeting against the packers was because of the same action he evidently said 'was not working' in the previous matchup. To be sure, the DE keeping honest against the pass forced Kirk into some unsuccessful pass plays, which he occasionally compounded with incredibly stupid decisions, but it also meant GB was defending our run game with 10 men and contributed to a lot of the Vikings success running the ball. If Stefanski is that dumb, we got problems.StumpHunter wrote: ↑Thu Jan 02, 2020 12:18 pmArif did a nice write up about why the Vikings couldn't do roll outs against the Packers. Re: 2019 Vikings are total FRAUDS!!!!
I agree completely about the bad game plan for the MNF. What it looks like to me is they stick to their game plan too long. My biggest criticism is they dont seem to have a plan B when plan A doesn't work. It's no secret the Vikings like to grind it out sith the run and setup the play-action pass. But EVERYONE knows that. It makes it eaier for other teams to PLan for. IF you are to make yourself so one-dimensional you better have a backup plan. It often seems like they don't. It's plan A or bust. I don't know if that's on Stephanaki, Kubiak, zimmer or a lack of trust to execute something different?mansquatch wrote: ↑Thu Jan 02, 2020 10:22 am I'm late to this, but it was the holidays.
