Mike Wobschall
For almost two weeks now, Mike Wobschall (Wobby), host of the popular "Pick six" segment and others, has been MIA. No word from the Vikings or Wobby what happened. No news of his leaving can be found online. Nothing. Does anyone have any information?
Don't pick a fight with an old Viking. If he is too old to fight, he'll just kill you.

Heard he was fired for tweets defending Trump.Fran the Man wrote: ↑Sun Nov 10, 2019 5:03 pm For almost two weeks now, Mike Wobschall (Wobby), host of the popular "Pick six" segment and others, has been MIA. It will be interesting to see if his replacement is a complete sycophant or if that actually wasn't part of the job and was just Wobby.

Re: Mike Wobschall
I heard that too but it seems like more of a rumor than anything else. If that was the reason, you'd think we would have heard something from Wobby. He hasn't tweeted anything since Oct. 24. Just seems so weird of the lack of information.StumpHunter wrote: ↑Sun Nov 10, 2019 5:06 pmHeard he was fired for tweets defending Trump.Fran the Man wrote: ↑Sun Nov 10, 2019 5:03 pm For almost two weeks now, Mike Wobschall (Wobby), host of the popular "Pick six" segment and others, has been MIA. He worked for the Vikings. What did you expect him to do? Trash the players or the coach?StumpHunter wrote: ↑Sun Nov 10, 2019 5:06 pmHeard he was fired for tweets defending Trump.Fran the Man wrote: ↑Sun Nov 10, 2019 5:03 pm For almost two weeks now, Mike Wobschall (Wobby), host of the popular "Pick six" segment and others, has been MIA. Clearly those are the only two options. Sycophant or trashing the team.J. Kapp 11 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 10, 2019 5:25 pmHe worked for the Vikings. What did you expect him to do? Trash the players or the coach?StumpHunter wrote: ↑Sun Nov 10, 2019 5:06 pm

I just don't understand why people expect a Vikings PR employee to give a negative assessment of any aspect of the team. It's his job to make the Vikings look like the greatest team in the NFL. Or at least it was. You can't blame him for doing his job.StumpHunter wrote: ↑Sun Nov 10, 2019 6:12 pmClearly those are the only two options. Sycophant or trashing the team.J. Hate to see him go. Seemed like a nice guy. A little bit of a shill but he was paid by the Vikings so what can you expect?

Completely get what you're saying. On the other hand, I think someone could take on that job without being quite so fawning and pathetic in their demeanor. He polished too many turds to earn respect among fans, IMO. Look at PA and Leber: neither is beyond criticism on other issues, but at least they aren't so obsequious as Wobby was.J. Now, if the guy who replaces him does the same thing, it is a part of the job description and we were all probably a little to hard on Wobby when he was just doing his job. That was all I was saying.

I thought he got better at that as the years went on. He had solid analysis on 9 to noon and I thought most of it was fair. Sad to see him go. Hopefully all is okay with him.StumpHunter wrote: ↑Mon Nov 11, 2019 10:15 amThat was my point all along.Texas Vike wrote: ↑Mon Nov 11, 2019 10:07 am

Re: Mike Wobschall
That pretty much sums up my feelings also. Enjoyed his stuff, never thought for a minute he was anything but a giant homer (Like me) but he had good stuff most the time. The more time that goes on and nothing is said from both parties, the more I start thinking it may have been something other than just politics and much more personal or nefarious.Purple Domination wrote: ↑Mon Nov 11, 2019 10:23 amI thought he got better at that as the years went on. Re: Mike Wobschall
I heard the rumors about the Trump tweets, but I didn't personally look at them. I also heard that there was an argument with management that led to the firing. Who knows what the real truth is, or what the argument was about (if there was one). I know one thing, if it was based on politics, that's really awful. I don't care what side of the aisle you are on. Politics should have zero to do with your job. That means, whether you are causing an issue because of your political beliefs, or you are being singled about for your political beliefs.... there's just no place for that. This country has gone off the deep end when it comes to politics. You can't even have a casual conversation without starting a fight. It's nuts.
I have no idea where the truth lies though. I just know we hear things like this too often lately.

Personally, I found Wobby to be too much of a homer. I'm pretty sure that his job was more PR/marketing than actual reporting though, so I didn't really expect him to be unbiased. I just didn't go out of my way to watch/read it. Not that some of it wasn't interesting, of course. I'm curious if the next person is the same though.

Re: Mike Wobschall
Remember, guys ... Wobby wasn't just a face in front of the camera. He was content director for the entire website. I'm a Communication Director myself, and I can tell you it's a hard job. I believe our website is one of the best in the NFL, and as someone with a supervisory role over content, Wobby was a big part of that. He also had a hand in some really great things like the Voyage video series. If you haven't watched any of those, I HIGHLY recommend you do. They're outstanding videos.
Also, when it came to analysis, he did a pretty darned good job. If you watched him on any of the insider analysis shows, he always held his own with Ron Johnson and the other pro football players.
I'll miss Wobby. He did a good job IMO.
