I hate Thursday football. I really do. It's so bad for the players. I've read so much this week about what these guys have to do to get their bodies ready in four days -- and it all comes on top of studying film, going to meetings, practicing, etc. It's just a stupid money-grab for the league, made at the expense of the players. Somebody on the radio the other day suggested they lengthen the season from 17 to 18 weeks (still 16 games), with two bye weeks, and if you play on Thursday, it has to be against a division opponent (so no team has the disadvantage of jet lag, like the Vikings at LA last year), and both teams must be coming off a bye. It'll never happen, but it sure seemed like a good suggestion.
I have a love-hate relationship with Thursday games. On one hand, as an NFL nut, I love having more games to watch throughout the week. I don't have NFL ticket anymore (cut the cord 6 years ago or so), so I don't get to watch many games on Sunday. But, honestly, most of these Thursday games become unwatchable very quickly. It's generally just bad football more often than not. So, to be honest, I kinda wish they would do away with most of them, because I'm losing interest in them. Last year they had some good games, but I don't recall any this year, but maybe I'm forgetting some. Thanksgiving games are great tradition still, but overall the product is generally worse on Thursday than Sunday. But, money talks, and you're correct that the players get the worst it.
I actually really like that radio proposal, and I think both the viewers and the players would like it better too. I think it would drastically improve those Thursday games, but yeah... it probably would never happen for some reason. I would think the NFL would be okay with expanding the weeks, and adding more income. The Fantasy Football community wouldn't know what to do with themselves with all those byes!
