Oakland post game thread
I missed most of the fourth quarter but the game was pretty much over by then. Below are my good, bad, ugly.
Good: Running game seems to be legit. It appears that all of our back up RBs could spell Cook if needed. Mattison's TD was finished with a pretty athletic play. Hughe hole but a lot of Rbs don't make that leap to get to the endzone. Boone is Boone. Oline looked better, still too much pressure on passing plays. The defense was solid. H. Smith continues to play at a high level. We should put him in ziplock to preserve him when he isn't playing so he lasts longer. Nice to see Irv Smith involved. I just about to give the side-eye on this heavy TE offense that doesn't pass to our TEs. The stretch bootlegs were open today. Not sure how Oak didn't prepare for them. Nice to have them work unlike last week.
Bad: Reiff. He is a liability. The Raiders have nothing but a rotational guy as a pass rusher and Reiff gave up too much pressure all game long. Wilson is a fun player but a liability in the passing game. He misread the Wheel route that resulted in 7. It highlights how important Barr is on this team.
Ugly: Kline going down with a concussion. Hope he is ok.

Re: Oakland post game thread
Kendricks had a great game and really the defense overall. I just read that Waller was the first opponent to go over 100 yards at US Bank. Ever. And it took a prevent 2nd string D to do it. Running game was obviously great (hope Klein is ok).
With Beebe out we quite literally have zero WR depth. We have 3 WRs on the entire roster now. Do they activate a PS guy or pick up a FA? Either way, very concerning.
Overall a great win and good momentum for a very big game coming up.

As for the game. Dominated them all game in all aspects. Cousins played well. I liked the change in boots instead of running the same one over and over like we did vs GB. Cook is a beast. Irv looked great and should replace Rudy sooner than later. Defense was dominant as well. Good to see Bailey hit a long one.
Big one next week vs Chicago

WR depth is alarming. However, it has been alarming all season. We are about to face the high scoring offenses soon and we need guys that can come in and play in the event that our running game falls behind. If that happens, we are in trouble right now. What happened to Obisi. People had him in Canton already?

Nice "bounce back" game. I didn't get to see it but the highlights sure looked great, as did the final score.
I'm looking forward to next week. The NFCN is looking tough so every game is big right now, especially within the division.

I heard Stefanski talking about Cousins not throwing it out of the back of the end zone on the INT last week-- his quote was something along the lines of "Every game counts for 1 so you just move on." I was thinking how if you go 12-4 in a season and lose all your games to the AFC, You'll almost certainly Make the playoffs and be seeded very high beating out all other teams at 12-4 or below. OTOH if you go 12-4 and all losses are to division rivals-- you're going to lose nearly every tie breaker you face with other 12-4 teams. Same applies for 11-5 or 10-6 when the losses are to AFC and the others to non-divisional opponents vs 6 losses in the division. You'll almost certainly lose every tie breaker. Every game doesn't really count for 1 and last week was a divisional game.

When you don’t run many 4 wide sets, why would he be on the field? Given irv smiths skill set, he is that 4th “WR”.YikesVikes wrote: ↑Sun Sep 22, 2019 4:48 pm WR depth is alarming. It's simple: he's saying division losses are more costly than out-of-conference losses, which makes divisional games more meaningful. The correlation is true too, of course: divisional wins are critically important. The Vikes would have been much better off reaching 2-1 by winning last week's game and dropping today's game against Oakland.
That's why it sucks that GB was able to start the season 2-0 in the NFC North.

Re: Oakland post game thread
Solid outing today against a team that, on paper, we were supposed to beat up, but the memories of last season's Bills game are too fresh... so it was nice to see us execute.
I loved seeing Mike Hughes back in action. Good for him. I hope his knee responds well and he wakes up with no swelling or pain.
Our run blocking scheme makes me smile, especially with Dalvin running wild with it. He looks explosive and capable of taking one to the house on any carry. Mattison looked determined too.
What a relief that our kicker made all of his kicks, and Carlson had a doink. Had it been reversed, we'd be reminded of our ST shortcomings over the years once again.
On to Soldier Field, where we always have a tough go of it. We need to get a divisional win on the road; this is a big game.

Except he isnt a WR. If you think Vertical TE are interchangeable with WRs, I don't know what to tell you. Before it was Irv it was Bisi Johnson and before him Beebe. Keep throwing in names. This is an issue.Pondering Her Percy wrote: ↑Sun Sep 22, 2019 5:41 pmWhen you don’t run many 4 wide sets, why would he be on the field? They looked great against an admittedly inferior team on paper. Which is better than a loss. The real test comes next week. This run game looks pretty special.

Re: Oakland post game thread
Lol it's not an issue on a team that hardly throws the ball. The volume Beebe has been getting is about what a 3rd WR is going to get. Idk why you continue to think we need some superstar there. And I said Irv Smith was working as a "4th WR" instead of having Bisi out there. Hell Diggs is hardly catching balls and you're worried about a 3rd guy. We are hardly passing the football. Do you think if Gary Kubiak was that worried about a 3rd WR he wouldn't have been screaming to draft one? Clearly he wasn't worried.YikesVikes wrote: ↑Sun Sep 22, 2019 7:05 pmExcept he isnt a WR.
