Spielman gets an extension

Re: Spielman gets an extension
I think that bringing in Kubiak is a last ditch effort to try and get things right.

I'm not sure why everyone thinks this like Kubiak is some savior. I think it's simply bringing the best coaches you can in to help this team. No less his offense is very similar to what Cousins played under with Shanahan. Its just another mind in the room. I wouldnt feel any different if Kubiak was or wasnt here. Zim himself is going to find a way to get this team right.

I don't think they had enough confidence in Stefanski, thus the reason they brought Kubiak in.Pondering Her Percy wrote: ↑Wed Mar 27, 2019 1:49 pmI'm not sure why everyone thinks this like Kubiak is some savior. Rick and Zim know if they don't make progress with the offense this year there is a good chance they will be gone.

This.
Spielman, Zimmer and Cousins are tied together now that the investment in Cousins has been locked in. It makes sense. Superbowl or bust now for this triumvirate.

Hah triumvirate is a perfect word. For our sakes let's hope this one works out better than Cesar's et alVikingLord wrote: ↑Wed Mar 27, 2019 5:54 pmThis.

Zimmer and Stefanski himself both said they Stefanski was the one that was the biggest advocate for Kubiak and wanted the Vikings to push to sign him. It’s not like they were like “hey you might suck so we’re gonna grab this guy just in case”. Stefanski went to Zim and asked for it. Which is great because you can tell the guy wants to be great and learn as much as he can from other coacheshalfgiz wrote: ↑Wed Mar 27, 2019 4:19 pmI don't think they had enough confidence in Stefanski, thus the reason they brought Kubiak in.Pondering Her Percy wrote: ↑Wed Mar 27, 2019 1:49 pm

Was that before or after Kubiak was already hired? You really think Stef is going to say its a bad idea after the fact? Or before the fact if it was inevitable.Pondering Her Percy wrote: ↑Wed Mar 27, 2019 11:31 pmZimmer and Stefanski himself both said they Stefanski was the one that was the biggest advocate for Kubiak and wanted the Vikings to push to sign him. Re: Spielman gets an extension
It was shortly after he was announced as the OC. And it was one of the first things he said. Why would he think it's a bad idea? If you're an OC, wouldnt you want someone like that helping you along? I know I would. Some fans are looking into the hire of Kubiak way too much. It's simply another mind in the room and adds more to our offense. As well as matching the terminology Cousins has been use to.PurpleKoolaid wrote: ↑Wed Mar 27, 2019 11:34 pmWas that before or after Kubiak was already hired? Re: Spielman gets an extension
He has made some very good draft picks. Our roster is his drafts. Even Barr who most rag on was signed quickly by the Jets. So he has high value except for this board. Last year was a downer. Injuries played a big part of that. Our 1st round pick who looked good was lost for the season. As was Easton. Griff and Rhodes were hurt Even Cook missed games. Many injuries. We even had a death Hopefully we have some young guys that will help this year. If we stay healthy we will contend. I think it would be nice to know what the accomplishment is that your talking about first.PurpleKoolaid wrote: ↑Tue Mar 26, 2019 9:53 pmHe is incompetent. You dont reward that with an extension. What in the world has he done to make you think hes a good GM? Hes been in MN for ages and has accomplished NOTHING. We won 8 friggin games last seas. Think about that. Some fans are happy with mediocrity. I just dont understand that. "Well we aint as bad as the Browns, Ricky must be doing something right!"Maelstrom88 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 26, 2019 9:36 pm I think he is one if the better GMs put there. Does he need to do some things better? Absolutely. We do have a very talented roster though and most of it has come from his draft picks.
Re: Spielman gets an extension
I agree. He's a QB coach. Big deal. The only thing he has is a name. And our new OC will run the same old bs as he did last year. We couldn't score against the Bears during the last game at home the same as the guy who was fired did on the road. Nothing changed. I was hoping to clean the slate.Nope. And this wuss zone blocking won't work. DLs will be in the backfield. Zone scheme needs people who have played together. We don't even know the top 5 yet or what positions they will play. The scheme should be dummied down. Hat on a hat period. Not this ultra complicated bs.Pondering Her Percy wrote: ↑Wed Mar 27, 2019 1:49 pmI'm not sure why everyone thinks this like Kubiak is some savior. Re: Spielman gets an extension
His son is the QB coach. Gary Kubiak is the assistant head coach/offensive advisor. But he is going to be exactly that....an offensive advisor. Which is why I'm sure Stefanski wanted to have him on board. It's a good offensive mind that can show Stefanski the ropes. You have to respect that in a young coach that he is willing to take all the help he can get.CharVike wrote: ↑Fri Mar 29, 2019 8:14 amI agree. He's a QB coach. Big deal. As for Stefanski, no, he's not going to run the "same bs as last year". That was the point of hiring Kubiak. And I would cut the guy some slack. He took over as an interim OC for 3 games. That gives him zero time to really implement his own stuff or change a whole lot. He was basically calling Flip's plays how he wants. Kubiak is going to bring in a lot of Shanahans system by the sounds of it. Which was not here last year. So in turn, it will be a different offense and they will find ways to run the football that's for sure.

Re: Spielman gets an extension
In a vacuum, every team has a 3.125 percent chance to win a superbowl at the start of the season. Given that outside of the vacuum, New England has about a 50 percent chance of winning the superbowl each year, on average the remaining teams would have appx a 1.6 percent chance to win a superbowl (on average). Of course, some teams have better odds than that. I would say that the last two or three years, the Vikings have been one of those teams. I would say the Vikings still are one of those teams. If you want to replace Zimmer and Spielman, you must have a sense that someone out there significantly increases their chances to win it all. You should probably have a threshold 'chance of winning it all' in mind which you find acceptable, and also some particular names in mind. Otherwise, you are little more than rabble asking for 'change' for the sake of 'change' which is sincerely a ridiculous position to take.

Re: Spielman gets an extension
We will play some good football. IMO we better get another WR not just to be the 3rd guy but based on history Diggs will be banged up at some point. That won't come from the draft. This season will come down to injuries as is always the case. If we lose some guys and some others miss games then we won't even make the playoffs. Hopefully Rhodes bounces back to form. If he's done that's trouble big time. I looked it up and the Thomas guy for the Saints smoked him in the playoffs during the 2nd half. That wasn't an injury problem. So who knows. But I don't see the odds for us making the Super Bowl as very good. Just winning the division will take a tremendous effort. The Bears will be tough to knock off. I don't expect us to score much on them especially with this crap zone blocking. They will tear those gaps up. The backfield will be loaded with Bears. So Cousins will take a beating and have zero time and Cook won't have many gaps. But the Bears don't have a QB. And as long as Rodgers plays the Pack become a pain. We beat them easily in 2017 but we couldn't win game 2 and only beat them when they gave up on the season. The Lions should be improved year 2. Or they may become doormates.fiestavike wrote: ↑Fri Mar 29, 2019 5:16 pm In a vacuum, every team has a 3.125 percent chance to win a superbowl at the start of the season. Look you guys, Gary Kubiak is going to be more than just an advisor, and he's not just another coach. He is widely regarded as one of the best coaches in the NFL, especially when it comes to detail on offense. He leaves no stone unturned when it comes to offensive football. Every team he coaches a) runs the ball well, and b) gets good quarterback play, no matter who is under center. He won a Super Bowl with a geriatric Peyton Manning. He made Matt Schaub look good in Houston. His offensive lines are always good, without fail. The guy can flat-out coach, and the only reason he's not a head coach right now is that he chooses not to because of what it does to his health.
In my opinion, this has the potential to be one of the best signings the Vikings have made in the past 10 years. I believe he will be especially helpful with the offensive line, which so often has looked lost, but where he truly excels. Do your research. Find out what the league thinks of Gary Kubiak. Remember when a lot of us thought signing Pat Shurmur made no sense because Norv was already here? We know now that Shurmur was an excellent coach in Minnesota, far more than just a tight ends coach. It's my belief that Gary Kubiak will be every bit as good or better.

Go ahead. I dare you.
Underestimate this man.
