Re: Thoughts Week 1
Vikings are not made to come from behind.....would have been a L if not for the defense (and to a lesser extent Pattersons kick return). Perhaps this may change when they insert SB but with Hill it will be a struggle. Sounds like Zim kinda admitted in the post game presser that he was over thinking the defensive scheme in the 1st half.....lets not get too complicated or cute.
+s....OL gave good pass protection
Hill looked ok because of the above
2nd half defense (shout outs to Kendricks, Hunter, and Smith)
Diggs & Thielen = studs
-s.....OL trying to open holes for AP
Walsh
Stupid penalties (come on guys)
At least half of Norvs play calls
CJ not getting separation

I had to work so, sounds like that was a good thing? I heard something about defense being good though, it's a positive!

Re: Thoughts Week 1
What the hell Peterson. Seriously stop dancing and hit a hole. What is up with running the same play over and over again when it's not working? It seemed like every time AP ran the ball it was the same damn play right at their best defender. Why not try a toss or stretch run play to the outside?
Defense bailed us out huge.
Really.hope Bradford starts Sunday, hills passes scare me because they have no velocity.

Re: Thoughts Week 1
Not many people on here are mentioning Kendricks. That guy was a straight up beast all day. Barr was sort of invisible. The OL was the complete opposite of last year. Did great in pass pro but awful with the run. Granted, Tennessee had the box loaded but they werent opening many holes and it seemed like we ran up the middle every damn time. I'm really not worried about AP at all. He missed a hole or two but for the most part, the OL was getting pushed in the backfield and holes were quickly clogged up.
Remember AP only went for 31 yards in the opener last year. At times, I wish they gave him a few runs in the preseason. He just looked rusty to me. Same last year week 1. I'm all for Bradford starting next week as long as he's ready. If not then go with Hill again.
Walsh worries me. It's sad i have to hold my breath on 30 yard FGs. Something is telling me that if we lost by a few points, Walsh would be gone. But the defense definitely saved him.
Positives
Kendricks was defensive MVP
Linval was an animal today
Robison played well
Harry tore it up today, especially vs the run
Hunter is a stud in the making
Waynes played much better when he was in press. Didnt realize he had 10 tackles and led the team
Diggs is a stud
Rudy was solid
Hill did a good job not turning the ball over
Negatives
Floyd and Barr were invisible
Sendejo is just Sendejo and I want Kearse in there lol
Lamar needs to start over Greenway
OL run blocking
Johnson needs to take a backseat to Treadwell
.....Walsh

Just a reminder that CJ is dealing with a quad injury. That had some kind of bearing.

Re: Thoughts Week 1
They escaped big time! Hunter needs to play full time. That sack he had was ridiculous, weaving his way to the QB.
First half the offense was so predictable, it was hard to watch.
Great teams find ways to win, and this might be the most talented team since 98.

Surprised no one mentioned his name once during the game day thread and he had a great game, yes I'm going to say his name and I hope I don't jinx it for games to come.... Matt Kalil

Seeing Walsh miss extra points and a few other kicks ...

Re: Thoughts Week 1
The Good
- Defense lived up to the hype, 3 takeaways, 2 touchdowns, held Titans to under 70 yards rushing, 16 points given up
- Hill did enough to not lose the game, made a few nice throws, didn't commit turnovers
- Diggs. First real receiver this team has had in years.
- Pass blocking. Would have been great to have seen what Teddy could have done behind this line today.
The Bad
- Peterson (19 attempts for 31 yards). 31 years old and it's showing. We can blame the line all we want, but he looked slow wasn't hitting holes, and was dancing behind the line
- On that note, the o-line didn't run block worth a crap
- Nit picking, but the defense struggled to get off the field on 3rd down (8 out 14 for the Titans conversion)
- Treadwell didn't touch the ball once (did he even touch the field?)
- Johnson looks just as lost as last season on the field
The Ugly
- Walsh. Need I say more?
- Committed penalties at the wrong times
- The whole first half

Re: Thoughts Week 1
One thing about Peterson... even an aging Peterson is probably better than 80% of the RBs out there. Tennessee had 8-9 in the box on almost every play AD was in there, and it opened up the passing game (such as it was) for Hill. I wonder what will happen once Bradford is back there. If we can make the defenses pay for stacking the box, the offense may finally be able to move the ball to the end zone rather than settling for Blair Walsh missing kicks.

Re: Thoughts Week 1
how can anyone in their right mind expect peterson to run effectively when all they are doing is defending against him? they had 9 and 10 guys in the box constantly. here are my thoughts. the offensive line looked great and so did the defense at least in the second half. the fact that we won that game without a single offensive touchdown says two things: the first is that we have the best defensive coach in the entire league, the second is that our offense is beyond pathetic. it begs the question, was it worst today, or last year? i'm a huge fan of the bradford trade i think once he gets settled in we will win a lot of games. as someone noted, last year he had the most passes beyond 40 yards of any starting qb. i think teddy might have had 3 passes in 2 years beyond 40 yards. with bradford in there we are real contenders.

Meanwhile Will Fuller, had 100 yards and a TD

31, 134,126. That was Peterson's start last year. Every year, including last year, its the same damn thing. He has one bad game and everyone jumps on the age train like clockwork. Makes no sense whatsoever

I do think it means he needs to play in the preseason. Of course, he probably will next year and get hurt...Boon wrote:31, 134,126. That was Peterson's start last year.
