Re: Preseason Game #3 vs. San Diego Chargers game thread
The offensive line played much better today without Kalil in there. Clemmings whiffed on a few plays but overall the line held up much better than with Kalil in there the previous games.

I thought that Boone and Clemmings worked well together. Overall the offensive line does seem improved. Heck of a nice drive down the field before half.S197 wrote:Seems like most of the battles are over, Berger is center, Thielen is slot. Safety is probably going to Sendejo but it was curious that he played the whole game. Did not see Grifffin after the whiff on Gordon, Exum hurt on special teams, no idea what happened to Harris. Kearse makes the team.
Other than Exum, only other injury I recall was Pruitt. I don't think MoBo got a snap. Floyd played well into the 3rd so looks like the knee is okay.
As for backups, Trattou, Lamur, Robinson, and Alexander had a good game. Thought Clemmings did alright in backup, Line had a great block on Te'o.

The OL had their best game in a few years. The only sack was the 3rd string. I am hopeful they play well this season.TSonn wrote:The offensive line played much better today without Kalil in there. The Devil whispered in the Viking's ear, "There's a storm coming." The Viking replied, "I am the storm." #SKOL2018

I don't think we should draw conclusions about the depth chart just yet. Zimmer said Berger started because he started at guard for Fusco in the first 2 preseason games and they wanted to get a look at him at center. It sounds like that battle might still be ongoing...
Griffin's back locked up on him. Apparently, he was on crutches after the game.
Ben Goessling said initial tests on Exum didn't show anything so hopefully, he's okay.
Re: Preseason Game #3 vs. San Diego Chargers game thread
I haven't seen the whole game yet, just the first half. A few things stood out to me in that half:
Bridgewater played very well. I loved his juke on Phillips! He threw with accuracy and on that 2nd quarter TD drive, he really threw downfield with authority. I hope we see a lot more of that this season.
The OL opened some good holes early but I thought they played erratically after that.
I loved Smith's INT.
To be honest, I loved the audible Rivers called that resulted in the Gordon TD too. It was just a cool football moment and since it was in a meaningless preseason game, it doesn't upset me that they scored on the Vikes. It's also a good reminder to the Vikes that blitzing can have a steep price... they can't get reckless!
Watching Turner trot Patterson out for another failed end around was depressing. Show some $%#@* imagination, Norv! As Lynch said, the Vikes can't just use Patterson as a gadget player if they don't get him more involved in the offense. Otherwise, just putting him on the field essentially tells the defense to watch for something like an end around. How has Turner not learned that by now?
Joseph's hit on Clemens was impressive! If he hit me like that, I doubt I'd get up.
The Vikes red zone offense still needs work.

When Teddy gets time, he plays great. He throws with confidence, accuracy, good mechanics, and solid velocity. Hopefully the offensive line can play this well all season!

Teddy looked solid. Diggs was precise in his routes and looked quick and efficient.
Lots of high draft picks from the past few years had nice plays: Barr, Treadwell, Diggs, Tre Waynes, M. Alexander.
Hill even looked solid backing up Teddy. Nice precise throws. So happy to see the OL play well. Sirles blew it once, but apart from that they looked solid throughout, especially in pass pro.

The weird thing is he wasn't with the 2nd team either, Easton was. Saw a shot of Sully on the sidelines so he was dressed but had a cap on. I'm thinking his injury is perhaps acting up.Mothman wrote:

That's too bad about Griffin. Wonder what happened to Harris...
Re: Preseason Game #3 vs. San Diego Chargers game thread
Maybe but it could also mean Zimmer wanted a longer look at the other 2 and is comfortable with what he's seen from Sullivan. It's hard to say. I hope he's fine.S197 wrote:The weird thing is he wasn't with the 2nd team either, Easton was. Saw a shot of Sully on the sidelines so he was dressed but had a cap on. Held out as a precaution? That's too bad about Griffin. Wonder what happened to Harris...
It will all take shape in the next few weeks!
Re: Preseason Game #3 vs. San Diego Chargers game thread
I thought they were uneven. Clemmings blew a block that ended the Vikings second scoring drive with a sack and forced them to kick a field goal. That was a pretty ugly play although overall, he was okay.Texas Vike wrote:Teddy looked solid. Diggs was precise in his routes and looked quick and efficient.

Vikings center John Sullivan got the day off, coach Mike Zimmer said, because the team needed to get a longer... espn.com/espn/now?nowId…
Zimmer: Pruitt getting MRI on leg; Exum initial tests didn't show anything yet and Griffin's back locked up in him.
Micheal griffin was On crutches after game only comment was talk to Zimmer

Sounds like Sully is fine, just watched the press conference, so that's a positive. Pruitt and Exum will get MRIs.

Compared to what we've come to know? Night and day IMO! Is there room for improvement? Certainly, but I'm starting to see reasons to believe that Sparano might get these bad news bears to play ball. It's awesome to see what Teddy can do with a little time. Diggs has me very excited. I think Treadwell is going to be a guy that by year's end is making steady contributions too.

Did Pruitt get hurt on the play he fumbled on?
