We need a LB, but we already have two good, young LBs, and there just isn't a huge need for a 3rd good LB since teams pay so much nickle/dime. We also need a safety, since Michael Griffin is unlikely to be the long term answer.
Su'A Cravens is a guy that is projected as a LB/safety 'tweener'. Could we use him as a starting LB in our 4-3, then move him to safety in our nickle/dime, while taking Griffin off the field? Is this kind of thing common in the NFL? Seems like an efficient way to address the 3rd LB issue.
I appreciate your humility in admitting your limits, I'm in the same boat.
It seems to make some sense, but what gives me pause is our poor run defense and I wonder if we'd be a bit "light" against the run with that group of LBs.
Something I don't understand still: Why did Houston feel the need to trade up for Will Fuller? Did the really believe that is who we were going to target?

They obviously feared someone was going to go up and get him.

Didn't HOU and WSH just flip picks (21 and 22)? If so, there was nothing to fear regarding our pick. I agree that it was a strange decision. They must have really wanted Fuller. I thought I read a tweet that the Vikings had put in a call to WSH about their pick, so apparently we were trying to move up for someone... we'll never know for whom.
Rumor was that Treadwell and Doctson (in that order) were our top WRs, but who knows if that was accurate or smokescreen.

I heard they wanted SPEED to compliment Hopkins. I'd bet money their #1 was Coleman. After he went to Cleveland they probably didn't want to risk losing Fuller under any circumstances.

Well unfortunately, I don't see how Myles Jack would get past Jacksonville tonight. I was really hoping we would trade up.
Jaylon Smith would also be a great choice. We all know this team's track record with second round picks in the last ten years (outside of Eric last year, Phil in 2009 and Sidney Rice in 2007). Might as well take a gamble with him if this team doesn't want to trade up for Myles Jack.

On Friday, if UCLA linebacker Myles Jack is still available when the Vikings make the 54th overall pick, the team will have an interesting decision to make. Kendricks and Anthony Barr have both stumped for their former college teammate on Twitter, and Jack would add another dynamic linebacker to the Vikings' young group. Zimmer remarked on Thursday night the Vikings "almost" took a defensive player, adding, "I always fight for defensive guys, you know." When asked if he was referring to a certain UCLA linebacker, Zimmer smirked and said, "Hmm, I don't know."
Best 32 players remaining according to Hasan's composite big board.
1. Myles Jack
2. Reggie Ragland
3. A'Shawn Robinson
4. Jarran Reed
5. Noah Spence
6. Andrew Billings
7. Mackenzie Alexander
8. Jaylon Smith
9. Jonathan Bullard
10. Kevin Dodd
11. Emmanuel Ogbah
12. Cody Whitehair
13. Jason Spriggs
14. Derrick Henry
15. Michael Thomas
16. Chris Jones
17. Sterling Shephard
18. Hunter Henry
19. Kendall Fuller
20. Su'a Cravens
21. Von Bell
22.Tyler Boyd
23. Connor Cook
24. Kamalei Correa
25. Austin Johnson
26. Shilique Calhoun
27. Nick Martin
28. Braxton Miller
29. Kenneth Dixon
30. Darian Thompson
31. Joshua Perry
32. Devontae Booker
(33). Jeremy Cash
Should be an opportunity to grab a good player.
A Nick Martin could be an interesting selection to play RG this year and C going forward? Maybe Whitehair is in the same boat?
Hunter Henry or Michael Thomas could both fit well in this offense, though maybe not a desperate need for either position.
Cash, Bell, Thompson, Cravens...a lot of different flavors of Safety could be available.
Kenneth Dixon or Derrick Henry provide really different approaches to the looming post-Peterson era at RB.
Immediate impact players might include a defensive linemen. Its one of the few positions that rotates players, which allows your backups to get snaps.
Spriggs is more an athlete than a bully. Is he a guy Sparano would want? It would be nice to have next years starting LT on the roster this year.

Myles Jack cannot have simple meniscal tear. That wouldn't need micro fracture surgery, unless it was a complete rupture of the medial meniscus. That is cartilage that lines the joint - it reduces forces through the knee. If it was a complete rupture, that tissue is avascular, meaning it cannot heal on its own with some surgical intervention. The joint fluid supplies that tissue, but that is not enough for 'nutrition' for the tissue.
That is where micro fracture surgery would come in. That would cause localized bleeding in the area, which would allow the tissues to undergo the healing process.
However, micro fracture surgery for a medial meniscus tear is not that common. What I think is really going on is that Myles Jack has a chondral defect. That is something that can be very limiting. A lot of times, that injury does require micro fracture surgery to promote healing.
