Boldin would add a toughness and attitude to the group that it doesn't appear to exhibit. However, I'm not sure how well TB would mesh with Boldin. Boldin is at his best in coverage. In order to make that happen, the QB has to have the confidence to make the throw into the coverage and I'm not TB is there yet.

Same reason I'm afraid that Doctson isn't the right pick for us (although I think he'll be remembered as the best WR of this draft class). Teddy's too risk averse for these types of receivers.

Teddy didn't have a big issue throwing to a covered Parker at Louisville. Maybe he's being coached to avoid throwing to an NFL "covered" receiver.

I doubt it. I think he just hasn't yet developed a great feel for what constitutes an open receiver in the NFL. The windows are tighter, the players faster., and he often seems to look and wait for his receiver to come open. He needs to improve his anticipation and be more assertive about throwing into tight windows, hitting receivers as they come out of their break rather than releasing the ball at that point, etc.

Just to add a point of clarity. I don't think Bridgewater is CURRENTLY at a point in his development to take advantage of what a Boldin type player brings to the table. This isn't something unique to TB. Boldin went through it with Kaepernick as well, the young QB just didn't have the confidence to make those throws at first and Boldin's numbers suffered.

It's true that he threw deep to him, but not too often did he throw into coverage and trust the receiver to go win a 50-50 ball.

Its a balance, as that confidence is both the QBs level of confidence in himself and in his WR. I think Teddy is temperamentally somewhat risk averse (not all bad), which will probably be overcome by a combination of personal confidence and confidence in his target to make the play. Mike Wallace really didn't help in this regard last season with his skillset and effort. Also not great that he may wind up with yet another #1 WR. He seems more comfortable with Thielen, Johnson and Diggs than he so far has with Wallace or Patterson. Parker and Cooper both might have been helpful last year due to the familiarity they would have brought. Its possible Boldin could provide that, but then we are likely looking at a 4th year QB with his fourth #1 WR to start 2017. I'd like to see them work with the guys they have or bring in someone who can contribute over the long haul.

I guess I don't understand how Boldin would be that different at his age now than Jennings was. I'd be shocked if he ever hits 800 yards again, and that might be generous. He'll be 36 in October.

its way too short sighted with this team to pair Teddy up with a 36 year old WR, and then have to be looking for a new WR next year. Develop from in house or draft a guy, but continuity is too important to keeping a championship window open to spend a roster spot on boudin.

Yeah, we've been over this before but I'm glad you brought those points up. Rudolph is another guy he clearly trusts and throws into coverage for but he had to stay in to block. Mike wallace and Patterson not exactly reliable guys.

Get some good route runners who can actually win 1 on 1's like Rudolph and I'm sure he'll fire it in there.

If Boldin came at the right price, he could be the best thing to happen to Teddy. But he wont, so its a mute point. Short sighted, maybe. Rick has done it since he became VP of player personnel. Boldin is the exact type of WR we need too. He's above 6'.
