Been trying to find information on the Vikings free agents, but no dice. Here just some quick notes from the past few days:

- Minnesota may still have interest in bringing back Mike Wallace.

- Terrence Newman and Chad Greenway are still negotiating with the team for their return in 2016.

- Matt Asiata and the team may be a bit apart in contract negotiation.

Jim I think with the offensive coach hirings this off season Zimmer is trying to take us to the next step. How many teams do you know that actually have 4 head coaches?
Not many but honestly, I don't know if that will make a big difference. The experience is a good thing though. They should be able to provide some knowledgeable perspectives to Mike Zimmer. The coaching changes are obviously intended to facilitate improvement so I agree that Zimmer is trying. I do wonder if Sparano will actually be an upgrade over Davidson though. I've seen fans talking about him as if the Vikes hired an OL expert but he has minimal actual OL-coaching experience in the NFL. He's spent much more time as a TE coach in the pros than he has coaching offensive lines.

He seems well-respected though...
To me though it is a little concerning that it seems we have been having trouble enticing players to sign.
We are an up and coming team with a brand new stadium. This year it seems instead of getting prime players we have been getting table scraps and hoping they resurrect their careers.
That may be by design since "table scraps" are cheaper and will accept short-term contracts but I don't know that it improves the team much. I'm hoping the moves work out and the Vikes draft well.

One thing I find interesting is it seems like the Vikings are showing an increased willingness to pursue and sign older players.

Chris Tomasson ‏@christomasson

Talked to Riki Ellison father of Rhett Said #Vikings initially offered much less than what he ended up getting. Then Rhett got other offers.
Riki Ellison on #Vikings agreeing to raise offer on Rhett “The value was more than they had originally thought That’s sort of what happened"
Riki Ellison said Rhett Ellison’s knee injury suffered last January shouldn’t be a factor: “He should be full go by training camp.
Riki Ellison on Rhett’s knee injury: “He’s ahead of schedule in terms of flexibility and all his measurements.’
I asked Riki Ellison if maybe his statement last week Rhett wouldn’t return lit a fire under the #Vikings. “They underestimated his value.’’

I love watching Rhett Ellison play, but I hope that Minnesota didn't overpay for an in-line tight end. Rhett's blocking ability offers tremendous upside for the team, but I just hope we didn't give him tight end receiver-type money.

Rand Getlin @Rand_Getlin

I'm told TE Rhett Ellison's deal with the #Vikings is for one-year and $2.25M.

Now lets finish this thing up with Andre Smith and since there has been little interest in Reggie Nelson let's bring him aboard to compete for a job. Then in the draft we take OL in round 1, wr in 2 and fill in from there.

We (the mods & Cliff) were discussing and felt the best course for this thread is to keep it to news/rumors/transactions only. Reason being we likely have some casual readers here who want to get caught up on Viking transactions but may not necessarily have the time to read the entire forums. This thread will give them a sort of one stop shop for all Vikings-related news.

That being said, I'll create a discussion thread where we'd like most of the conversation about the transactions to take place. As always, feel free to PM any of us (or utilize the suggestions section of the forum) with any questions or concerns.
