somehow, when I started this thread, I didn't see it being about Peterson...My own foolishness is to blame for that.

No, nothing foolish about it. You started a thread about a reasonable topic.

Back to Cordarrelle Patterson. I'm in the camp that believes he could help the Vikings offensively. But the Vikings simply won't use him.

If that's the case, then it would be in his best interest and good for the team if they trade him. I'm not sure what they could get, but maybe they could help the OL.

And the OL definitely needs help!

I think Gerald Hodges was probably the most value we could have gotten for the least impact to the team.

If we could get a decent O-lineman for Robison I think he could be traded and we could slide Hunter in at RDE without seeing much if any drop off. Maybe one of the TEs behind Rudolph if we could get an O-lineman that could be an upgrade.

I don't think anybody else that the team would be willing to trade would bring enough value to actually be traded.

I like 96 questions too much to trade Robison at the moment. But I think you make a fair point. He's a guy that could be replaced pretty effectively and who might not be back next year anyway. Speaking of which, what a sucker punch it would be for the Vikings to try to trade Greenway at this point!

Obviously, I hope they do not do that.

I was thinking last night while laying in bed..... what if the Vikings are waiting to break out jet sweeps/reverses/ time at HB to CP84.
What if they are waiting til the end of the year, maybe against the Packers just to throw a wrench in their gameplans.

Idk just a thought.

Ha! I almost didn't post that for that very same reason. I also think his experience/leadership mixed with what's left in the tank probably doesn't justify what the Vikings would get in return.

I've thought about that too. Seems kind of like a strange strategy, but who knows?

If that's the strategy, I don't like it.

I think they've just thrown in the towel on Patterson, which makes him a logical candidate to trade. I doubt they could get more than a late round pick for him at this point though. :(

Maybe I went a little overboard by saying McKinnon could be more effective in the offense we want to run with Teddy, but that is because in watching them McKinnon is very good taking handoffs out of the shotgun. He really knows how to wait for the holes, much better than Peterson does. He is just not as physically talented as Peterson. I think a lot of this has to do with his experience as a QB in more of a wildcat role in college.

It seems like Teddy is most effective out of the shotgun so pairing him with McKinnon in that formation could work really well. It certainly did when we tried it last year. The drop off in our offense if we traded Peterson would not be as much as most people think.

False...
I can ALREADY post a larger highlight reel from Peterson THIS YEAR, than I can from Jerrick's ENTIRE 2014 CAMPAIGN.

He has a point from the shotgun, where Peterson is averaging basically 1 yard a carry. Saying that though, Peterson only takes about 4 carries a game from the shotgun so its not going to make a HUGE difference, but I also wouldn't say its insignificant. Asiata is a better pass protector than either McKinnon or AD and probably a better shotgun runner than Peterson as well.

Hopefully Peterson will get better at running out of the gun...

Wallace or Rudolph. Biggest weight in terms of production / contract.

Wallace will make $9.9 million this year, that's insanity given his production level of 49 yards average per game. His cap hit just keeps going up over the next few years too.

Careful with the hyperbole. McKinnon ran for 538 yards and a 4.8 average last year before he got hurt (which is MY biggest worry with McKinnon ... he's so small). He had two 100+-yard games, and a slew of nice runs. Obviously AP is better, but it's not like McKinnon is terrible. And it's not like AP has a 2012-like list of highlight runs this year.

Nobody's trading Adrian Peterson. He's still really good. But I also understand (and share) the frustration of AP not being able to run out of the gun. This is a team game, and the Vikings as a team are more effective in the passing game out of the gun. With defenses poised to stop Peterson, it's almost fruitless to try and run him, especially when AP lines up 7 yards deep in the I-formation. Everybody knows what's coming, and the Vikes struggle with play-action because the line doesn't give Teddy enough time.

I don't know what the answer is, but it's clear the Vikings can't win by simply handing the ball to AP 25 times, the way we did in 2012.

The most likely candidate for trade is Cordarrelle Patterson. He's a first-round draft choice who is basically last on the WR depth chart. Trade him to Oakland. They always think they can resurrect other teams' castoffs. But don't trade him to New England ... because they routinely DO fix other teams' castoffs.

I don't understand how some think a 5'9 RB can do a better job out there than Peterson. Once again he's top 5 in the NFL in rushing yards. Is anyone going to sit there and say McKinnon would be better than that? I sure hope not.

And he's not what he use to be? Based off what? Him getting tackled in the backfield the second he gets the ball? Even at age 25, he couldn't make plays out of that. Our run blocking was much better then that it is now. Mainly due to Clemmings. Loadholt has been hands down our best run blocker over the years and I imagine Sully does a better job than Berger. So you can put 2 and 2 together.

I honestly can't even believe people are discussing this.

As Jim stated in another thread.....
They also had a hand in Peterson's tough day; he was hit within a yard of the line of scrimmage on 15 of his 18 carries
That just shows how bad our run blocking is without Loadholt and Sully. So to say "he isn't what he use to be", is simply based off of him "not breaking as many big ones" and the stat above simply proves why. It doesn't prove that he "isn't what he use to be". Look at all the big runs he's had this year. Everything is still there
