http://www.1500espn.com/sportswire/Norv ... iggs102215"There's a reason he was a fifth-round pick," Turner said. "He had injuries in college his last year, he had some inconsistencies. one of the things when we got him here was we made it clear to him he needs to overcome those inconsistencies if he's going to make it. And he's worked hard to do it."
The rookie's standout play even led a reporter to ask running back Adrian Peterson on Thursday, during his weekly media availability, if he had any advice for Diggs' new 'celebrity' status.
"He's played in two games," Turner said when asked what Diggs needs to improve. "Everything. He needs to work on his route running, recognition of defense, continue to emphasize ball security. There's a lot of things he can get better at. Obviously we're excited about having him here, and we like the upside he has.
"He had an opportunity because of injury, he came in and made the most of it."

Norv says slow your roll on Diggs, people
Norv Turner: Let's 'slow down' on the hype for rookie Stefon Diggs

Re: Norv says slow your role on Diggs, people
Hmmm... this is from the same offensive coordinator who, last February, declared Charles Johnson "“far and away our best receiver” after what, 6 starts for Johnson?
This quote cracked me up:
I'm kidding around. I realize this is pretty typical coaching stuff: slow the hype, don't let it get into the player's head, remind him he has a lot of work to do, etc.
This quote cracked me up:
I assume what Norv meant was that he's slowing down some of the hype about Diggs but the way he phrased the comment, it almost sounds like he's saying "This guy has been impressive and we can't have that, so I'm going to slow it down"."Diggs has been impressive since he got here," Turner said. "I'm going to slow that down, he's got a lot of work to do. We went in and played a man [coverage] team and put in a couple routes they'd never seen us run and he did a good job running them. I think he caught four balls in the first quarter. He's going to be a real good player. He just has a lot of work to do.

I know you're kidding but with all the receivers now presumably healthy, it's a numbers game now. It's a great problem to have, but it's a problem nonetheless. Who sits? Are all 6 WRs active? I think they have to be.losperros wrote: What??? Diggs needs to improve his route running?

Can you imagine the uproar if Diggs is listed inactive this weekend?

Seems that makes another receiver we have who 'needs to work on his route running.' Norv is a hypocrite. The other receiver meanwhile sits on the bench.
Anyway, I am a big fan of Stefon and have been high on him since I watched him play at Maryland. Stefon should start opposite of Wallace - not Charles Johnson.

@christomasson Zimmer said he has an idea who will start at wr Sunday alongside Wallace but won't say I would guess diggs

I agree and if Norv wants to apply "There's a reason he was a fifth-round pick" reasoning to his receiving corps, how does he apply such reasoning to former first round pick Patterson and former 7th round pick Charles Johnson?HardcoreVikesFan wrote:Seems that makes another receiver we have who 'needs to work on his route running.' Why am I not surprised, just when you think this team is on the rise you get this clown mucking it up. It gets tiresome as a fan having your team screwed over by incompetent coaches over and over!
I'll see you guys later, gonna cheer for the Pats till Tom and Bill retire, I can't take this anymore! No idea how some of you guys have done this for 30+ years!

You're testing us all on the god fan/bad fan rule, aren't you?mondry wrote:Why am I not surprised, just when you think this team is on the rise you get this clown mucking it up. It gets tiresome as a fan having your team screwed over by incompetent coaches over and over!

And DP, you're killing me with getting "slow your roll" wrong. I thought you had street cred!
Re: Norv says slow your role on Diggs, people
At first Norv's stance kind of made sense when Diggs kept putting the ball on the turf during his first game. Since that time though, he has been getting wide open against some pretty good defensive players (the last one being KC's wunderkind at CB). I'm all for not letting the guy get "big headed" but this kind of response from Turner makes me question him...well....more than I already question him.
I've told people a million times not to exaggerate!

Sorry, I'm just really amused by that.

Maybe there's a bit of gamesmanship going on here. Zimmer hasn't been willing to say who will start at WR on Sunday across from Wallace. Diggs has been getting a lot of publicity this week. I wonder if perhaps they've made him a big part of their game plan on Sunday and Norv's just trying to throw the Lions off course in their game prep.
It's a thought anyway...
Re: Norv says slow your role on Diggs, people
In my opinion: the only way a receiver that has talent is going to improve is getting into games and catching passes.
Diggs and Teddy seem to have some chemistry.

I am afraid that's assigning him too much credit.
