2015 Season General Comments (pressers, practice notes, etc)

Post by DK Sweets »

Not only does he have limited experience in the middle, but he started out as a safety at Penn St. What a transition.

Hodges won the competition but I get the impression none of the MLB candidates stood out to Zimmer and clearly seized the job. Ditto for the safety position.

I think Zimmer realizes that he has to get Hodges on the field as much as he can. He's too good a football player to be on the bench, thus the move to MLB.

I feel like a lot of people have been skeptical or slow to react to Hodges' play since the start of last season, but he'll continue prove his worth.

Gerald "The Eraser" Hodges - I made that nickname up, you guys.

PFF: Teddy Bridgwater was 100% accurate on passes under pressure during preseason.

The GUMP nickname wasn't for nothing.

Unfortunately him being willing to stand in the pocket, make a good throw, and take a hit might not work out so well with this year's offensive line ...

@MasterStrib Mike Priefer said Blair Walsh was overthinking during the preseason, which led to some of his misses. #Vikings
‏@christomasson Adrian Peterson said the sky is the limit for Vikings says he shooting for 2500 yards
@mattvensel Adrian Peterson said making his return on Monday night, with the NFL and many Americans watching, does mean a little extra something to him.

@GoesslingESPN Peterson said he'll have to remind himself to breathe, not play too fast. But he's also told new linemen to be ready when he comes their way
@GoesslingESPN Peterson said he's told linemen to go full speed in practice. "When I come your way, I don't want to find my facemask in your back."

@mattvensel Mike Zimmer expects Blair Walsh to be back to his old accurate self this season. Said he has been booting the ball well in practice.
‏@Andrew_Krammer Zimmer on K Blair Walsh: "He's thumping the ball now, sounds better coming off his foot. I'm anticipating he'll be good old Blair."

@Andrew_Krammer Zimmer alluded to Barr playing catch up after being on/off last month: "Once those things settle down, he's got a chance to be a real man."

@GoesslingESPN Zimmer on Teddy: "This was the first time I've seen him that way. He didn't pull the trigger a couple times when he needed to."
@Vikings "It was just a really, really uncharacteristic performance from our football team and it was disappointing." - Coach Zimmer
@GoesslingESPN Zimmer on Sendejo/Blanton: "It's a fluid situation." Could Exum be a possibility? "He could, if he can ever figure out what to do."
--Exum slam
@GoesslingESPN Niners only got pressure 23.1% of the time with 4 or fewer. Pressured Bridgewater 57.1% on blitz, per @ESPNStatsInfo
@GoesslingESPN After watching Peterson's carries again, six of 10 with Bridgewater under center. Four out of 10 actually at pistol depth, not shotgun.
@mattvensel Zimmer didn't think Adrian Peterson was hesitant. He actually thought he was getting to the hole too quickly.

@Andrew_Krammer Teddy Bridgewater said he was "overdoing the playing fast part," agreed with Zimmer that he was sped up Monday night.
@GoesslingESPN Teddy Bridgewater said he was "overdoing it" while trying to play fast on Monday night. Has to remind himself he's not only one out there.
@Andrew_Krammer Bridgewater: "I'm excited it's a short week. Gives us less days before we can redeem ourselves."
@Andrew_Krammer Bridgewater: "Point the finger at me" for five sacks. "I could've done a better job redirecting protection"

That is one unhappy, disgusted coach who clearly expects more out of his team. Thanks for the link.

I already get the feeling the Vikes will either be signing a free agent safety or drafting a safety next year.

@murphPPress Everson Griffen still snorting & snarling 36 hours later: "We practiced way too hard to put on show like that. It's embarrassing." #vikings
@Andrew_Krammer Everson Griffen, couple minutes in: "We take San Fran personal. And I'm angry as you can tell. That's all I have to say and I'm done here."
