Re: Vikings @ Cowboys Game Thread
The Oline has looked much better over all tonight, then last week. Maybe some backups are starting to gel. We got hit so hard on the Oline, and it was already in rough shape.
Love Johnson (wth have Joseph and Floyd been doing). Trust me, they aernt AD types and should be riding the pine for the preseason. Ive already said for 2 years what I think of Robison (another premature contract extension). I did have a little hope Floyd and Joseph would have some talent though.

My feelings too. We have 2 QBs that look good, and may not keep either. I dont know about Kafka, but I can see someone stealing Heiny.denburch wrote: I know. Most people think we will only keep two QBs, but I am not sure we can sneak Heinicke on to the practice squad. He has performed well this preseason.

Agree completely. Heinecke will NOT get onto the PS. They'll have to keep 3 QBs. Which means it's more likely they'll keep no FB as they're going to have to keep 1-2 extra OLs for all the injuries (Loadholt out, Sullivan back spasms last 2 games) and poor play going on there. I also think on a week-to-week basis they'll need to lean toward having other-than-OL personnel deactivated and extra OLs activated.denburch wrote: I know. Some minor qualms, but I always enjoy beating Dallas! Doubled them in the score and doubled them in first downs. SKOL!!
It's time to take back what was rightfully ours in '98....and '09!!

Re: Vikings @ Cowboys Game Thread
3 pages in the game day thread?
Some random thoughts.
First Romo TD was the most disappointing play of the preseason so far. Felt like they took 10 steps backwards on that play alone. That being said, I think the defense will be the strength of this team. Besides the two TD passes from Romo (the 2nd TD was against the Vikings 2nd team), the defense played well. Yeah they gave up a couple of big runs by Mcfadden, but this defense is deep. That's why they're winning in the preseason. Half of our 2s can probably start. Exum had some great hits. Kendricks was all over the field. Didn't look at the stat sheet but I wouldn't be surprised if Dallas had 10 yds in the 2nd half.
I think Dominique Williams is the Vikings 2nd best RB. Showed great hands today.
Waynes had a good game I thought.
I'm still concerned about the run blocking and run defense.
Call me a fan of Taylor Heinicke. He showed a lot tonight.
Very sloppy game tonight. Too many penalties.
A little concerned with Bridgewater. I'm not sure if he's seeing the field well. I can't help but think he's missing open receivers when checking down. Just a hunch. Although it's hard to complain when he's taking care of the ball. I'm hoping the entire offense will flip a switch once Peterson is on the field.
I hope Edmond Robinson makes the team. He's always making plays.
Almost turned off the sound because of the Dallas announcers. Not sure if you can get a more one sided broadcast.

I was thinking the same thing. No way he goes onto the practice squad with what he has shown. Just this minute I had a thought: do we keep him and cut Hill. Incredible risk to do that. Hard to keep a roster spot on a player who you think won't take a snap this season, though.DavidKarki wrote: Agree completely. Heinecke will NOT get onto the PS. They'll have to keep 3 QBs. I'll have to Rewatch the game, but did Trae Waynes have a great game? I'd love to be wrong about the value of that pick. The plays I saw, he looked fine. That would be huge for this defense.

Re: Vikings @ Cowboys Game Thread
He played pretty well. I also thought the first team O and D played decent with the exception of run blocking by the O and a terrible angle by Harrison Smith on one play. Run defense was much better. First team D Line had their best game to date.John_Viveiros wrote:I'll have to Rewatch the game, but did Trae Waynes have a great game? I'd love to be wrong about the value of that pick. The saddest thing in life is wasted talent and the choices you make will shape your life forever.

I thought the same thing. Heikeke just looks to have a LOT more promise. He may even be better than Hill right now; he sure looked better than him last night.
RE: your other post--I agree again. Waynes played well last night. I think that's the first game that we can say that.
My biggest concern is running the ball and stopping the run. We haven't done that well this pre-season.
Also, as someone said upthread, Dominque Williams (RB) has looked really solid. I hope he can make the PS.

This definitely has become my biggest concern. I know it's only preseason but I hoped to see some improvement in stopping the run from the D, given the problems they had with it during the last regular season.
Regarding Floyd from other posts, he IS talented. Very talented. He needs to stay healthy.
Re: Vikings @ Cowboys Game Thread
Running game so far hasn't been great. "Last night " McKinnon 6 carries for 10yds, Asiata 3 carries for 2 yds.
Not real great stats. Kind of worrisome
I also know Williams played and had 6 carries for 25 yards.

Serious, you are worried about the Vike's running gamehalfgiz wrote:Running game so far hasn't been great. "Last night " McKinnon 6 carries for 10yds, Asiata 3 carries for 2 yds.

Do not mistake KINDNESS for WEAKNESS!

Not worried about AP but his backups is only averaging a little over a yard per carry. That doesn't cut it.Purple bruise wrote: Serious, you are worried about the Vike's running gameYou do know that 28 will be playing this year.

The run game was, again, a tremendous disappointment. The two running backs that will make this team combined for just 12 yards on nine carries. Jerick McKinnon carried the ball six times for ten yards, and Matt Asiata had three carries for just two yards. In mop-up duty, Dominique Williams carried seven times for 32 yards and a score, with Banyard chipping in with four carries for 19 yards and another score. Heinicke added three carries for 20 yards as well.

Re: Vikings @ Cowboys Game Thread
Or drive, or the continued 'lack of execution'. They do nothing out there. Joseph may be as bad of a pick up as Captain has turned out to be. If the game is on the line I would much rather see Tom Johnson out there then Floyd.Pondering Her Percy wrote: So you're saying Floyd and Joseph don't have any talent?
