I honestly don't argue with people, If I don't get their point of view. Several of you

Ken, I apologize for the "dubious" comment. It was much too snarky.

Anyway, you and I have communicated privately about this discussion and I now understand your view regarding all players needing to *earn* their way on the team. I agree with you that there is no room for slackers of any kind. Let's hope that Patterson kicks things in gear and plays up to his potential this season. The entire team will be better for it.

here is how i see it. they need to get patterson the ball more no matter how they do it. when has anyone ever said he has bad hands or he drops balls? not ever. he made a clutch grab tonight and i believe the coaching is as much at fault as patterson. they need to get the ball in this guys hands, not matter how. when he gets the ball thrown to him he catches it, what does that say????????

I thought he made some impressive moves on what probably should not have been ruled a catch (surprised they didn't overturn it). He also made a great double move on a play that Heineke simply didn't look to the left part of the field. As PA pointed out, he was wide open for a TD.

I agree. I'm still not sure that we have a #1 WR, but we have 6 WRs that could start for many teams in the league. I have to think that Teddy has an opportunity to really shine if he sticks to his progressions.

Did Berman coin that or did PA? The latter used it seamlessly in his play by play last night. PA is such a doofus, but I enjoy his schmuck schtick quite a bit, in small doses anyways.

Back on the thread's topic: It occurred to me last night after Patterson's TD and especially the way he reacted afterward (more below), that what may bug fans about his guy is that his personality seems to be bigger than his performance.

This is the reaction I am referring to:
1. He celebrates the TD by doing a quarter lap around the stadium getting high-fives from the crowd.
2. After commercial break, given camera time, CP84 takes the opportunity to tell fans to "stay tuned, we ain't done yet...."
3. Next series he gets a short pass, makes a fantastic couple of moves and moves the chains. He looks fired up and full of confidence. Great to see. Then he gets up and gets in the face of the LB that tackled him. He pops his face mask into the LB's helmet and takes a 15 yard penalty. Sigh.

I can see how his "flash" personality might rub folks the wrong way, especially Minnesotans who tend to be very measured with any act that might be perceived as self promotion. For me, charisma and personality are great, but all that really matters is continued production and disciplined play.

I think Patterson is a guy that feeds off energy. If you get involved early on then he will better during the game.

I'm beginning to think the same way, guys. Like Texas Vike said, CP looked fired up while he was playing. Yeah, the penalty was dumb but the guy creates a bunch of excitement for the team, fans, and himself when he's getting the ball. And he gains yards and scores TDs.

Patterson should be given touches. He doesn't have to catch the ball all the time but he should get his hands on the ball.

Kinda funny we haven't really had a good group since Carter and Moss played together.. Now we have a decent group again..

I think they've had a few good groups since Carter left but not on the level of CC, Moss and Reed and never for long. Moss, Burleson, Robinson and Campbell were very effective and I think Rice, Harvin and Berrian were a strong trio in 2009.

I'm interested in seeing just how effective this year's WRs will actually be during the season. There's a lot of speed and talent in this group but will that translate into great productivity? As a group, they appear deep but how strong are they at the top?
