It should be. You're just asking for trouble if you go into the season with Wallace, Johnson, and Patterson as the top three. I know Norv loves Johnson but he's still unproven, Wallace is inconsistent, and Patterson is still a complete unknown.

Maybe you don't take a WR 11th but there's some good ones in this draft. Could grab someone in the 2nd round.

I was never a fan of putting Jennings in Purple in the first place. His cap number was really too high for the production this team is getting out of him though. Seems to me there are guys out there, like Bernard Berrian, Jennings, Sydney Rice, ect. that are not superior athletes, or have extreme size advantages who just click with certain QBs, and I think picking those guys up and trading for them is always a bigger risk, especially when you are giving them *star* type money. If it was up to me, if Im spending money getting WRs in FA, I would look for guys like Brandon Marshall, Randy Moss, Larry Fitzgerald, or others that are more than just good receivers, they have physical attributes that create mismatches and double teams from opposing defenses. If I can't get them, then I am not putting big contracts together for receivers, hoping to home grow some through drafting, and maybe catch a couple bang for your buck guys to supplement it. These big contracts to average WRs has to stop for this team. Also, now that we have a young possible franchise type QB, maybe when we find a couple guys who really click with him, we might want to spend that extra money keeping them in town, even if we pay them a bit more than they would get on the Open market, chemistry between QB and his receivers is an intangible that is under-rated IMO.

I like Jennings a whole lot BUT 31 year old Jennings was due $8.9 million this year, and would have counted $11 million against the cap. That tells the whole story right there. Obviously he wasn't going to take a pay cut and I would swap Wallace for Jennings any day of the week.
Funny how this and all message boards have such diverse and extremely different opinions about most topics. What is strange to me is how some posters seem to hate and comment negatively about every move this team makes Maybe some should quit their McDonald's jobs and be a GM somewhere.

That's true. The rookie would probably be raw and inconsistent too unless it's one of the top guys in the draft. So maybe you do still think of taking a WR at #11?

Norv better be right about Johnson because if he's not, it's going to be tough for Teddy. Even more so if AP gets traded.

That's true. The rookie would probably be raw and inconsistent too unless it's one of the top guys in the draft. So maybe you do still think of taking a WR at #11?

I haven't been in favor for the idea of drafting a WR in rd1. I'm hoping for defense honestly.
I thought, because of Jennings in particular and the promise Johnson had shown, that we weren't nearly as bad at WR as has ben projected. The return of a healthy Rudolph and possibly AD were/are factors I think give the pass attack a huge boost in terms of helping Teddy. That would give them some cushion as far as drafting a WR IMO.

I think inTurner's system that Wallace's skillset is more critical than Jennings. Wright can play the slot efectively in this system.

It's just that if AD doesn't come back...I think it makes Wallace 'the' vet guy on offense....other than along the line.

Not sure how really significant that is....but it bugs me.

Just talking from personal experience. But it never took less than several months for the good habits of more experienced people that I worked with the rub off on me. Two years I think is more than enough time to vaccinate our core against any negative behavior caused by Wallace, if any. Assuming people are giving Jennings all the credit for good behavior of certain players.

Interesting take. I agree on the chemistry value.
I think we paid too much forJennings too...but they definitely lacked a vet at the position, which is also significant when helping a young QB.
Thinking back at the WRs we've drafted the past few seasons...there really hasn't been a guy that fits the bill of a guy who is looked at as a NFL type solid prospect.

Maybe they need to pick a guy high in the draft, who actually knows the position, and keep him here for a decade.

This just blows. I am Not amused.

Got to be honest though, I really didn't expect or see this coming. (Maybe I should have, I dunno Lol) it just didn't seem logical or make ANY sense. Damn.

Sucks when you lose such a solid and consistent player.

Oh, well. I'm still going to eat dinner at my dinner time.e and still going to make it to bed in the nude.

However, this may provide some leverage to make the case that it could mean the Vikes aren't worried or planning on losing AP. Since if it was a cap thing than you'd think it wouldn't be a big deal if u felt it was a good possibility you didn't have to pay AP.......??

I do agree that Wright and Rudolph are vets. My thought is that Wallace has logged significantly more minutes than any of them. I wasn't implying his behavior as a concern but just the overall knowledge amongst the receivers we have.
Turner's scheme is complicated....Wallace is in for a learning curve. CP is treading water. Johnson is an unknown really.
