I know what you're saying but I'm torn. If Kalil plays like one of the worst LTs in the league again we'll suddenly have a gaping hole at LT in 2016 with no real options. Of course, if he does well enough to get extended, Scherff will be a high-round backup/swing for quite awhile with a fairly young offensive line (from left to right at the start of the 2015 season: Kalil: 26, Boling: 26, Sullivan: 29, Fusco: 27, Loadholt: 29). Not that quality depth is a bad thing.

They really need Kalil to step up though.

Edit: Is Loadholt really 29? That was a little shocking when I looked that up and I don't know why.

I'm not too worried about Kalil. Perhaps I should be but I thought the degree to which he struggled last year was exaggerated and to my eyes, he played much better down the stretch. I anticipate a solid season or better from him this year. There are other tackle options in this draft besides Scherff so even if the Vikes don't address depth at the position with him, they can still draft a tackle to develop and there will be more available next season if Kalil's 2015 season leads them to believe they need to move on in 2016.

While I agree he played better down the stretch, I don't think the degree to which he struggled was exaggerated. I think the media (especially locally/on Twitter) was justifiably harsh. There may have been additional scrutiny based on his draft position, rookie season and coming off a bad year. The problem is/was (if you can call it that) he wasn't consistently horrible all game; he just had spots of really, really abysmal play. Technique was just awful at times. Then there was the quotes about his technique and trusting his knee, which may have all factored in. Whatever the problem was/is, let's hope it's corrected.

That's true. But you hate to be hamstrung, forced to start a second-year round 3-5 left tackle. Not that said tackle couldn't handle it, but the odds probably aren't great. YMMV.

PFF says Loeffler has lost .2375mph off of his snaps and a great deal of his spin on the ball, all due to metacarpal fatigue which is always the second thing to go for long snappers.
This was probably a bad signing.


The upper dorsimous muscle......it's the one the generates the most hike. It's right there in PFFs snap index fact sheet.

It's hardly ridiculous my friend, it's pure analytics. Loeffler is near the bottom of Mel McShay's long snapper rankings due solely to the downward trend of the spin on his punt snap. He's only averaging 7 RPS (revolutions per snap) while the league average is 12. Quite frankly, he's embarrassing himself out there.

LOL! I know What it is, analytically and statistically. I just figured that my mentioned of how it was interesting to me and my "awe" of it would have easily and generally showed my understanding and interest in it.

Yet I am still able to laugh at the pure insanity and again ridiculousness of the fact that someone is able to figure these things out through #'s.

It's amazing what they can see with HD and super slo-mo cameras.

I agree with you 100% there. Stevie is a playmaker who got under utilized last year in SF.

As I said in the NFL thread, I don't know where he'd fit in. I think I'd actually prefer ascending speedster Charles Johnson over post-Achilles tendon tear Crabtree. Unless Crabtree is a depth guy. I'd almost prefer Jennings over Crabtree, too. Though a lot of my opinion is on his health. If another offseason can get him into form, then maybe. Though I'm concerned how this would impact Patterson.

Fair enough. My assessment of Vikings players doesn't seem to match up with that of many board members lately so I'll chalk this up as another example.

You basically nailed what I was talking about there, especially in the part I highlighted. I thought Kalil's play was pretty bad at times last year, certainly deserving of criticism, but I also thought he was more inconsistent than anything else. I think the talent is still there and I really do expect him to bounce back... but maybe that's just what I want to believe.

It's not ideal but I think it depends on the player.... and there's always the draft. If Kalil plays so poorly in 2015 that the Vikes feel they have to move on, I'm guessing they'll be picking in the top half of the draft again in 2016.

Not sure how I feel. He is only 27 and still has the ability to be productive. But, I almost would rather have us address the position in the draft.

I suppose I'm in the minority here...I want defense in the draft in the worst way, so I think Crabtree is definitely worth a shot. If the price is reasonable, of course.

What would crabtree bring to this team????? He was only impressive in college to me. Maybe Kaep didn't help him out. He seems to fit what Turner likes, a big, tall, deep threat so who knows what he would do in his system.

Didn't have much "deep threat" in him last year. More of a possession guy with questionable hands. I question his effectiveness post-surgery. Achilles more serious than ACL these days.
