Bah I was gonna laugh this off till I saw it was Arif. I know that guy, he wouldn't be saying this unless he was confident.

IMO, it would be a really dumb move to trade AD. Really, really dumb. He is going to have a monster year next year... 2000 + yards. I do not understand the logic behind that at all. I will be very disappointed if that indeed happens.

There is this:

http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/12408 ... k-spielman
MINNEAPOLIS -- The Minnesota Vikings have wasted little time taking advantage of the fact they're able to communicate with Adrian Peterson again.

Peterson, who was placed back on the commissioner's exempt list last Thursday after federal judge David Doty ordered the NFL to vacate his suspension, can once again talk directly with the Vikings.

Vikings general manager Rick Spielman said Monday that the team has had "open dialogue" with Peterson since Thursday.

Spielman would not elaborate on the Vikings' conversations with Peterson, but said again the team wants him back next season.

"We are able to have communication now with Adrian," Spielman said. "We'll keep all those communications internal. I think it's been very clearly stated we want Adrian Peterson back. He's a unique talent, and he's under contract with us."
So who knows.

Though, if it happens, and I'm not saying it will, but if it does - there's obviously more to it than a player, with a large cap hit, that we decided to move. If that was all there was to this situation, I'm sure there would be some speculation, but if he's traded I think it's safe to assume there's a back story to go along with it (one we'll probably never truly have all the facts on).

Multiple sources tell me that the above is just more unsubstantiated rumor-mongering. ;)

Hasan clearly trusts his sources and he may even be right but it's hard to believe he got the scoop from multiple reliable sources over the many more-established reporters likely in better positions to get this sort of information. Even a rumor-lovin' site like PFT isn't reporting this so you have to wonder just how reliable the info is...

Hasan is certainly confident. He tweeted this:

@Bean2408 100%. Have been writing for years. This is the first story I've broken. Not putting my rep on the line for something not true.
A trade IS a legitimate possibility (we've been discussing it for a while) and I'd be very surprised if the Vikings weren't exploring their options, gauging what they might get in return, etc. That sort of interaction could certainly fuel rumors but it doesn't necessarily mean they're out there desperately seeking a way to unload Peterson " “any way they can.”.

Soielman says it's been "beneficial" for the Vikings to talk to Peterson, which could mean anything. Maybe it's been beneficial in the sense that they've learned there's no way he wants to play for them this season so they're looking at other options.

I'll be glad when this situation is finally resolved, one way or another. I'm sick of reports like this.

About time. Guy has been talking about wanting to play for other teams even before all of this came out. He doesn't want to be here. Yeah the team would be better next year if he were here, but beyond that? At the salary he's getting? You can find backs who can produce in the draft, in free agency, backs that block better, and bring more as receivers. In Norv's offense you need that even more than the previous coordinators. It'd be better for everyone involved if they moved him. But once again his value is at it's lowest because of all those reasons.

At least getting that 12~ million off the books allows them to address a couple of positions with the money if that's what they decide to do. Besides whatever they get in the trade.

Like I said a few weeks ago, as much as a doofus that Sid can be, I put way more stock in what he reports than many other "insiders". He uses old fashioned conversations with people rather than unnamed executives.

My gut tells me that AD will be trading his horns for a star next year. I would guess that the Vikes will get the Cowboy's first round pick, second round pick this year and conditional pick/picks the next year.
I would be fine with this or something quite similar.

Guys, he isn't going to Dallas. They can't afford him. If he goes to Dallas I will come on here and eat my words.

Of course they can afford him...it is called restructuring his contract. They will give him a load of guaranteed money and AD will be happy, the Cowboys will be happy, and the Vikings will be happy. Leave Jesus Christ out of it :nono:

At first I was making a conscious effort not to get too worked up about all of this, but now I genuinely don't care.

If Adrian wants to come back, I will welcome him back with open arms. If he doesn't want to be here, I have faith that we can get a reasonably fair deal off of him based on what he has left in the tank/his price tag. Although I seem to be the minority, I trust our front office to make the right moves when it comes to the draft, and with all that extra cap space I'm sure we would bring in a very valuable player.

Adrian makes our team better, but he's not the only player who can do that.

If Dallas gives us enough value for trading in our conference (I would say a 1st and another highish pick) by all means send him there.

Otherwise I would be happy sending him to an AFC basement dweller for their first. Not out of any hatred towards AP but just that a higher first round pick is nicer.

Just spit balling here but Dallas did NOT tag their running back correct?

I'd say best case short of keeping AP would be trading him for a first and getting Demarco for less per year than AP (say 7-8 million).

Spend less, get a play maker to replace the play maker and get a first.

Edit two. In fact the more I think about it the more I want this to happen
