How about Culpepper, AP and Moss? That could have been part of a dynasty.chicagopurple wrote:Man I loved Culpepper! Can you imagine if he had been on the scene with AP?! Timing is everything.....that and avoiding knee injuries.....
21 Year Old Ted Bridgewater
We never would have had Peterson if it hadn't been for losing Moss.Purple Reign wrote:

Just playing the hypothetical 'what if' game - just saying it would have been awesome if we had those 3 players on the same team even though circumstances prevented it.DKSweets wrote: We never would have had Peterson if it hadn't been for losing Moss.

Exactly how I feel and the longer the Vikes wait to find "their franchise QB" the longer the suffering will continue.

I'm not sure how anyone can think or say that 6 games into a 22 year olds career. Yet analysts think Blake Bortles is a franchise QB when he is struggling more than anyone and can't buy a win.Purple bruise wrote:Exactly how I feel and the longer the Vikes wait to find "their franchise QB" the longer the suffering will continue.

Time will tell the whole story. I see a young QB, who is suppose to be the team's "franchise QB", who has steadily regressed in his play as the season goes along. I would add and if you read my earlier posts from this season, I was very hopeful and positive about his future. Now, at this point and I would love it if I was wrong but I just hold out little or no hope for him to be "that player".Pondering Her Percy wrote: I'm not sure how anyone can think or say that 6 games into a 22 year olds career. Re: 21 Year Old Ted Bridgewater
And I respect your opinion but I'm not sure how he has "steadily regressed" as the season has gone on. He actually improved greatly after the DET and BUF game and basically won us the TB and WAS games in the end. Granted he didn't play as good against GB and CHI but I don't see any sign of "steady regression" whatsoever. I mean he's averaging an 81.4 QBR over the last 4 games and has a 5:2 TD/INT ratio. How can anyone call that "regression"??Purple bruise wrote: Time will tell the whole story. Re: 21 Year Old Ted Bridgewater
He's played less than 8 full games of pro football, not even half a season, so I think it's way too early to make an accurate assessment of his future. I don't see Bridgewater as a QB who has steadily regressed or as a QB whose inevitable future is as a backup. I don't think he's fully seized the opportunity before him and proved that he's going to be a quality starter in the NFL but to me, he's just a rookie who is playing like a rookie. I was hoping to see a little more upside than we've seen so far but so it goes. I think the guy has to be given time to learn.Purple bruise wrote:Time will tell the whole story. That said, I'm fully in favor of drafting another QB and I don't just mean in the 6th or 7th round, although that would be fine. I'm certainly not giving up on Bridgewater but I agree with you that the longer the Vikes wait to find their franchise QB, the longer the suffering will continue. They put all their eggs in the TJ basket and then put all their eggs in the Ponder basket and as far as i'm concerned, that's the wrong way to go about it. They should be developing a potential "next man up" behind Bridgewater even as they're developing him. Sandwich a veteran backup between them on the depth chart but by all means, they should get started on Plan B so that if Plan A doesn't work out, there actually is a Plan B.

And I respect your opinion too but I do not see the improvement that you are talking about. TB and Washington are two teams that have really bad teams and defenses so I would expect for him to have a better QB rating against those types of teams.
As I said, I hope that I am wrong but I do not see the "it factor" with this young kid. I want a fiery leader who plays with passion, two things that are greatly lacking with him and steady improvement as the season goes along. Again, just my opinion.

Fair enough but what aspect of his game do you see improving? He still stares down receivers, has proved incapable of completing a "long pass" even when receivers are wide open. And misses way too many easy throws.
I hope that lessons have been learned with, TJ, Ponder, Cassel etc. etc. and a true franchise player can be found.

PB....sorry I'm on my phone so its difficult to quote
Granted WAS and TB are weaker teams but either way, he had good games against them so I don't know how you can still consider that "regression". A good game is a good game. Especially with the amount of composure he showed in the end of those games.

Re: 21 Year Old Ted Bridgewater
I'm certainly not ready to give up on him. His pocket presence is very, very good and he keeps his eyes "up" more than many other QBs we've had on this roster not named Favre. That said, his accuracy is as concerning to me as his footwork. Playing behind a sieve line isn't helping matters but I really don't know the last time I've seen him step into a throw. Give him credit that he hangs in the pocket as long as he can and takes the hits after throwing but his mechanics are all over the place right now and his accuracy wasn't an issue in Louisville so I wonder if a lot of it is due to collapsing pockets.
As much as we need another stud receiver I don't know if there's a bigger priority than addressing the offensive line this offseason. I really wish I could get into Rick's brain right now and figure out just how concerned he is with the line, particularly his left tackle.

I say offensive line as well. With the media and fan hit that Kalil is taking, I'm sure Spielman is very aware but to be honest, what can you really do about it now?dead_poet wrote:

I think our WRs can improve with time in this offense. Especially CP. Although there is no way I can see the left side of this line improving this year. I say put a legit LG next to Kalil and maybe find some decent depth at OT in the draft

Re: 21 Year Old Ted Bridgewater
Oh, nothing can really be done now. I'm talking 2015 free agency/draft. It will be quite interesting to see if Kalil is the starting left tackle again or if he'll face some competition. His career arc is trending downward and if the front office sees Bridgewater is their QB of the Future, protecting him better than what's happening this season (injury to Fusco aside) has to be a priority.Pondering Her Percy wrote: I say offensive line as well.
