Re: what QB should we draft at #8 assuming ALL are available
The Whole NFL is searching for the Great franchise QB except for the 5-6 teams that actually have one and it's been that way for the last 20+ years. So here's the question, How is that search working out for most? Pretty poor if you ask me. Quicker and Safer bet is to build a great Defense with High Draft picks to stop teams from scoring 30+ points on you and your average and easier to find QB will seem a lot better. Time to get 2 Shut down corners and better LBs and shut down all the teams without a Brady, Manning, Breese, ect ect and slow the Top QBs down a bit.

I like the theory. There have been several teams make it to the Super Bowl without a top ten QB. Build a great defense and a solid offense with AD as the nucleus along with great special teams.Laserman wrote:The Whole NFL is searching for the Great franchise QB except for the 5-6 teams that actually have one and it's been that way for the last 20+ years. Laserman: I agree for the most part. I'm still adamant that they should go defense and continue to build that defense until it's a top tier unit. However, if you have Teddy (I'll use my #1 Q in this example) as the top rated QB and a top 3-5 player on your entire draft board then I think it's gotta happen.
Re: what QB should we draft at #8 assuming ALL are available
I don't see how it's any easier to build a top defense than to build a top offense. I think the big mistake is thinking that we need to address either offense or defense in the first round. We need to address the team in the first round, with the best possible player that can help us, whether that's QB or LB or CB or some other position. QB's can be found outside of the first round, but defenses can be built without the investment of numerous first round picks as well.Laserman wrote:The Whole NFL is searching for the Great franchise QB except for the 5-6 teams that actually have one and it's been that way for the last 20+ years. We need to pick the best player left on our board at #8, unless that player plays a position like OT where we're already set at. If that happens to be a QB, you take him. IMO there is at least one QB who would likely be the best player on the board if we were drafting at 8, and that's obviously Teddy Bridgewater. He's the 6th best player in the draft on my own personal board, two of the players ahead of him are both OTs and the top 3 players I don't expect to be there when we pick.
The thing that is great about this draft is that it's deep at a number of our positions of need. We currently have 4 picks in the top 3 rounds, and could potentially move back to add another one. The good news is that if we don't address QB in the first, there are some decent options in the 2nd or 3rd round. But that can be said for both the CB and LB positions as well. I don't think we should force any pick.

Teddy has been the consensus #1 QB pick all year. Other QBs like Bortles, JFB, Carr have moved up and down depending how the breeze was blowing. I would love Teddy at 8. But it wont happen. And none of the others are worth it.

The biggest knock I've heard on Teddy is size....not height, but weight.
Does anyone know if he is just skinny but has a frame that can carry a lot more weight? Or is he just naturally small with a small frame that will always be prone to injury?
I'm honestly not sure, just wondering if someone has some insight on this...

Re: what QB should we draft at #8 assuming ALL are available
If we had a solid shot at a Andrew luck of Tom Brady type QB I'd go for it, but I don't see with so many holes to fill on both sides of the ball that ANY of the top five QBs worth the risk and worth the loss of gaining a high Quality CB or LB which are HUGE needs. It can be a Crapshoot whichever way you go but it's sure is a lower risk drafting High quality Defensive players than QB. Many Great QBs have come out of the later rounds. The Whole chidress till now our pass defense has been poor with only decent CBs and LBs that can't cover anyone

@RapSheet: #Louisville QB Teddy Bridgewater is meeting privately with #Vikings staff members as we speak. His Pro Day is tomorrow, live on @nflnetwork

I voted for Bridgewater.
One thing I hate about the draft ... and especially with the draft being in May now ... is the closer you get, the more conflicting scouting reports you read. At this point, I have no idea who is really the one to take.
Bortles seems to have the tools and physical attributes, but the biggest criticism of him is that he doesn't read defenses well yet.
Manziel has that wow factor, but he may burn out quickly. I fear he has a little Ryan Leaf in him.
Bridgewater could be frail.
Do I know any of this for sure? Hell, no. I'm looking for the best bet, and MAYBE that's Bridgewater.
I'm all for drafting the best linebacker available and grabbing McCarron in the second.

Re: what QB should we draft at #8 assuming ALL are available
I've never been as sold on Bridgewater as others, and today's Louisville pro day backs the argument.
According to ESPN, Bridgewater was pretty underwhelming in his throws. According to Ron Jaworski, Bridgewater struggled with deep throws and struggled with accuracy, which was supposed to be his strong suit. Don't forget, this is in a controlled, indoor environment, going through a routine he's been preparing for for weeks, with receivers he's familiar with.
Also, he weighed just 208 pounds, not the 214 that has been reported.
Watch the report.
I'm in favor, as I have been from the beginning, of taking Zach Mettenberg or Jimmy Garoppolo in rounds 2 or 3, rather than burning #8 on a quarterback that probably doesn't have more potential than either of these guys.

Go ahead. I dare you.
Underestimate this man.

I hope that the Vikings stay clear of this guy. Not impressed at all

I picked Bortles, but that could be because I've been googling images of his gf for the last 20 minutes

None. LB first round please.
Quite like the idea of garopollo in 2-3 behind cassell for a season, doesn't upset me too much. Even mccarron.
Defense is paramount, especially playing outside the next couple of years.

I wouldn't touch any qbs in the 1st round, jimmy garopollo or zach mettenburger in the 2-3 rd, go defense with the 1st pick , bridgewater looks like geno smith, not a chance!!

what exactly makes you think Bridgewater looks like Geno Smith

Outside of the color of their skin, I see very few similarities.
