While we sorely needed an upgrade, my expectations are tempered. He worked behind one great defensive front 7 and at 5'8, he's going to be going up against a lot bigger and more talented receivers in this division. I'll be interested to see if he starts outside opposite Rhodes (kicking to slot in the nickel). But the secondary just got out of the cellar.SkyFire wrote:Great signing to get Munnerlyn. Sad day for me when that comes to fruition.Mothman wrote: Thanks for the info.
I'm guessing if they end up signing Melton, that's it for Kevin Williams.

Don't hate on my Buckeyes. Some of the best Vikings went to Ohio State.

Re: 2014 Free Agent Tracker & Discussion
Vikings signed CB Captain Munnerlyn to a three-year contract with a max value of $15 million.
Munnerlyn is obviously stretched outside at 5-foot-8 and 195 pounds, but he's one of the best slot corners in the game. Still only 26 -- he turns next month -- Munnerlyn turned in a breakout 2013 campaign as a 16-game starter, setting career highs in tackles (74), sacks (3.5), and pass breakups (12). He has four pick sixes over the past two seasons. Look for Munnerlyn to start outside on early downs and cover the slot in Mike Zimmer's nickel package.

where are you getting info on the Captain signing? I can't find it anywhere. And I even looked through Schefter's twitter.

Yeah those are my thoughts as well. I would still like to see us add a CB in the draft.dead_poet wrote: While we sorely needed an upgrade, my expectations are tempered. While neither Linval or Captain qualify as big name signings, both have the potential of being huge additions. The only question I have is, isn't Captain more of a slot corner? If so, doesn't this mean the Vikings are in need of at least one more outside cb? Cook underachieved ever since arriving, to put it nicely, but I wouldn't mind seeing him back on a 1 year deal under this new coaching staff and defensive system.
Of course, the draft seems to be pretty loaded with corners as well.

I really think with the depth of this draft at CB and Safety, that we end up with at least 2 if not 3 DBs total on draft day.sotapopinski wrote:While neither Linval or Captain qualify as big name signings, both have the potential of being huge additions. Aside from taking a Qb somewhere after Rd 1, I'd be thrilled to see them focus on linebackers, defensive backs, and offensive line. It's just nice to see Spielman and Co. addressing the most apparent holes in a systematic fashion. Almost seems like they know what they're doingKSViking wrote: I really think with the depth of this draft at CB and Safety, that we end up with at least 2 if not 3 DBs total on draft day.

That division has Julio Jones, Roddy White, Marques Colston, Vincent Jackson, Mike Williams....Saying there are more talented WR's in our division is questionable. I don't see a huge difference in the two outside of maybe height.frosted21 wrote: Yeah those are my thoughts as well. I would still like to see us add a CB in the draft.

Give it a rest. He's led the team for several years in tackling for a reason. Nothing misleading about that.
A successful coach needs a patient wife, loyal dog, and great quarterback - and not necessarily in that order.

How about we sign this former tackle who struggled and slide him at LG alongside Kalil. That could be scary! Ravens offensive tackle\guard Michael Oher.

I'm glad he's back. Evans has always shown flashes of promise to me, he has a great first step. Hopefully under Zimm he can be more consistent and also more disciplined.dead_poet wrote:Fred Evans - DL - Vikings
