Griffen has base salaries of $6.9M in 2014, '15, '16 and '17, then $8.4M in '18, plus $100K workout bonuses each year. $19.8M in first 2 yrs
In other words, if #Vikings cut Griffen after 2015 season, they owe him zilch and take just a $3.6M cap hit. Minimial risk outside initial $

Everson has come a long way from those pre-draft concerns in 2010 that knocked him down into round 4. I cannot wait to see what he can do as a fall time starter for the Vikings.

It's great to see him so excited about it. It's nice when players are so enthusiastic about being a part of the Vikings.

Thanks for the link. Love his attitude (his voice reminds me a bit of Mike Tyson, though).

@alexmarvez @Broncos were dangling deal averaging $9M/yr,forced @Vikings to sweeten offer to keep Griffen & caused DEN to look elsewhere

My thoughts exactly.

Sounds like the Broncos are getting serious about defense all of a sudden. Also sounds like they were a lot more interested in Griffen than in Allen.

For good reason. I just don't think Allen has it anymore.

52 tackles, 11.5 sacks (still puts him in the top 10 last year)... he's still a very productive player. His age just works against him in free agency. Teams want to sign free agents in their 20s, not in their 30s.

I guess..I just don't believe the numbers tell the truth with him. He didn't create his own pressure, didn't play the run well at all, and was invisible for long stretches. Just my opinion, but he contributed to the defensive debacle last year..it wasn't in spite of him. I think he played very badly. Don't want him. Again, just my opinion, based on watching him this last season.

Exactly. And plays every down for himself first, and the team second. Good riddance. From what a talking head was saying on KFAN yesterday, he doesn't fit Zimmer's defense at all either.

As far as the contract Griffen got, maybe if Spielman didn't make an offer that Griffen laughed at during the season and tried to make a realistic offer we could have got him cheaper. Instead we wait until the market opens, and the Broncos helped hose us...

Yeah that stupid Spielman  Should have offered Griffen a better contract earlier and would have saved "us" more money and the embarrasment of him laughing at "us". But "we" lucked out and somehow managed to sign him.

True, but a team like the Broncos shouldn't care too much about his age. Once Manning is gone they will probably have to blow the whole thing up anyway.

They probably just decided Ware offered a bit more of what they wanted and they weren't going to sign both of them.
