Well I'm guessing that knocks us out of the Michael Johnson running. I'm completely fine with this signing. Something is telling me we're going all-in for Verner

Good news assuming the price was crazy. Hopefully he can live up to it.

Really really happy to hear that! I was afraid with the changing of coaches we might lose Griffen for the Bengal guy just because of Zimmers history / experience with him. Extremely excited to see what Griffen can do as the starter (assuming he'll be the starter) and while there are concerns that he's only played spot duty before, there is a massive amount of upside here. I bet once Zimmer saw the film and saw what Griffen could do he told Spielman to lock him up!

Great signing. It would be sweet if he could take over an olb position and sign johnson for DE. If not he will do just fine lined up with Robison.

Do not mistake KINDNESS for WEAKNESS!

Holy... ####... 42 million dollars? Wow.
Everson has been one of my favorite players on the team since we drafted. I am glad we were able to retain him, but, 42 million??? Man, that is paying a lot for potential.

I never even thought of this. Intriguing to say the least.Purple bruise wrote:Great signing. It would be sweet if he could take over an olb position and sign johnson for DE. If not he will do just fine lined up with Robison.

Maybe... although they might make a strong play for Joseph or Soliai as well.
Who knows but if Griffen is returning, I'm assuming he'll get his shot to start at RDE.
Adding Verner could really help the defense, especially if Smith stays healthy and Rhodes has a good sophomore season.

Re: Everson Griffen re-signed to 5 year deal.
Not bad! Only 20 million guaranteed, and the 42.5 isn't all that high if he goes off and becomes a top 5 DE. Currently makes him somewhere around the 6th highest paid DE but that will change by the time even free agency is over THIS YEAR. I like that deal a lot! Allen was a bit more proven but we immediately made him the highest paid DE by far, this isn't even that much in the grand scheme of paying pass rushers. 2-3 years from now he'll be down further to like the 15th highest paid DE and that may end up a STEAL!frosted21 wrote:5 years, 42.5 million, 20 million guaranteed

I think we will see a lot of inflated deals the next few years. The cap is expected to continue to rise significantly the next few seasons. Look how much Green Bay just paid Sam Shields. Huge $$$.HardcoreVikesFan wrote:Holy... ####... 42 million dollars? Wow.

You are right about that. I guess I just saw the number and kinda took it at face value. I am sure this means we are out of the Michael Johnson race - which is fine because I guarantee Johnson would want just as much as Everson (if not more).frosted21 wrote: I think we will see a lot of inflated deals the next few years. So where does this leave us on cap space?

If I recall correctly, he turned down a bigger offer from Cincy last year. I think he's looking for a BIG payday.HardcoreVikesFan wrote: You are right about that. It depends how the contracts of Cassel and Griffen are structured, but assuming Cassel is about a $5 mil hit and Griffen is a $8 mil hit, we should be still sitting at $28 mil in cap space
