Sure, pushing a 12" needle into your eyeball might sound like a good idea when the alternative you have gotten accustomed to is holding a hot coal on your crotch. Let's just get one thing straight though - you don't want either of these things. Ever.Reignman wrote:That may be true, but at least Weeden is familiar with Norvs offense whereas Ponder is not. Not to mention Norv prefers a vertical passing attack and says he wants to spread our offense out more. Yeah now picture check down charlie trying to run that type of offense. Terrifying. He couldn't even handle Muskrats game manager offense, so Gilligan needs to go.

I know people are not seriously thinking that Brandon Weeden is worth trading a draft pick. He's worse than Ponder.

I wouldn't say he's worse, but he isn't much better.King James wrote:I know people are not seriously thinking that Brandon Weeden is worth trading a draft pick. He's worse than Ponder.

you guys really need to find something worthwhile to talk about this is getting ridiculous. why even mention brandon weeden's name? or for that matter, ponders? no one is going to trade anything for him he will either be cut or a back up on our roster. end of story start a new thread about something that might warrant a single moment's thought. for crying out loud the entire brown's front office basically resigned yesterday, they were forced to hire a coach nobody in the league wanted, so why wouldn't weeden want out? nobody wants to play for or even coach that debacle of a franchise. truth be told ponder or weeden don't even belong on an nfl roster they both suck.

Re: Vikings will seek trade for Ponder.
Did anyone say it would be a good idea to trade for Weeden or that it should happen? I thought it was just mentioned as a possibility due to the fact that he wants out (confirmed by ESPN today) and his relationship with Turner? Either way, way to blow it up.
We better not trade Ponder for Weeden! *slams hand on table* That would be ABSURD! What the heck is the difference? The idea behind that was just..."a fresh start for each." What's the big deal?
Y'all just want Ponder as backup. I get it.

Re: Vikings will seek trade for Ponder.
Whoa whoa, hold the Funking phone. Who mentioned anything about trading draft picks for Weeden, King James? Nobody! The hypothetical trade was Ponder for Weeden, straight up. More specifically it was about having a gun to my head and having to choose one of them. But if we can have a 3rd option, then hell yeah I wouldn't want either one of them, but that wasn't an option in this miserable off season game we decided to play xD.
Chilly picking Favre up at the airport in '09 was a great moment, and I hope the next great moment is Zimmer dropping Ponder off at an airport with a one way ticket to who cares where. Maybe we can convince Frazier Ponder gives the Bucs their best chance to win. Yeah send him right back to Florida where he belongs.

Re: Vikings will seek trade for Ponder.
Ya jeez. It's not like I brought it up in "QB of the future" or made a whole new thread. We're talking about trading Ponder here, what do you expect? Garbage for garbage swap, are some of you really that attached to Ponder? Sure Weeden will be 31 next season but he's still more of an unknown than Ponder, who has started in almost twice as many games. And again, the fact that he already has a head start in knowing Norv's offense should not be overlooked, regardless of how awful he might be on the field.
Another interesting angle: Zimmer has coached D in the same division as Weeden for the past two seasons. Weeden didn't play against the Bengals last year but in 2012 he had two of his best games against them (lol, uh oh!). Together with Norv, they know more about Weeden than most coaches in the league. If this trade really happened why be upset?

Because we'd be starting another mess like the one we're almost rid of in Ponder.HornedMessiah wrote:Ya jeez. It's not like I brought it up in "QB of the future" or made a whole new thread. Re: Vikings will seek trade for Ponder.
Trading Ponder for Weeden just doesn't make much sense to me. Yes, Weeden has spent a year in Norv Turner's system and that's a plus but why exchange a 25 year old QB entering his 4th season in the league for a 30 year old QB entering his third who has arguably played worse? Weeden doesn't seem to have shown any more potential as a pro than Ponder so other than providing relief for those who can't deal with Ponder being a Viking, what's the likely net gain in that scenario?

Re: Vikings will seek trade for Ponder.
I found this article interesting. It contained a quote from Spielman I hadn't read previously. It seems to be an admission that Ponder is not the answer.
and"I haven't got it right yet. We've worked as hard as we could to try to get that right," Spielman said after the Vikings fired Frazier on Dec. 30. "I wish that you could get a quarterback (easily) and it's not. It's maybe the most difficult position to fill, but we're going to do everything and use every resource we can to try to get that corrected."
http://espn.go.com/blog/minnesota-vikin ... um=twitterBut the stigma of his misses at quarterback still follows him around, and if he can't get the position right this time around -- especially if he makes what turns out to be a bad investment with the eighth overall pick -- he likely won't another chance to change his reputation. General managers can often survive at least one coaching change, but the best ones extend their careers by finding quarterbacks.
To his credit, Spielman seems to know he needs to fix the position. All that's on the line is all he's built for himself in his time with the Vikings.
"I have confidence we'll get this quarterback situation resolved. I really do," he said on Dec. 30. "What that answer is right now, I'm not going to have those answers until we get the coach in place. And when we sit down and delve into what we have at this position -- what is potentially out there in free agency? What is the draft class? Those answers will all come in time."
“Some people think football is a matter of life and death. I assure you, it's much more serious than that.” --- Bill Shankly

If I remember correctly, he made that comment at the press conference he held after Frazier was fired.dead_poet wrote:I found this article interesting. It contained a quote from Spielman I hadn't read previously. It seems to be an admission that Ponder is not the answer.

Where have I said anything about you saying anything about having Weeden be the starter? By 'starting another mess' I didn't mean like starting quarterback..I meant beginning or embarking on a new mess. The people advocating bringing Weeden in (starter or backup, whatever you desire) sound very familiar. In fact the rationalization is almost exactly what the Ponder supporters use for Chris.HornedMessiah wrote: Where have I said anything about having Weeden be the starter?
Replacing Ponder with Weeden is akin to replacing horse #### with pig ####.
