You honestly think that the Vikings would open training camp with none of the QBs that were on the roster at the end of last season? They'd either have to bring in two veteran free agents and a draft pick, or one veteran and some combination of draft picks and undrafted rookies. There's no way that happens.Demi wrote:We aren't stuck with Ponder. Even Slick Rick can't defend his boy any longer. If Cassel opts out, Freeman leaves...there are a number of free agent veterans this team could sign that would start over Ponder. Including paying either Freeman or Cassel enough to bring them back. Along with the strong possibility the team takes a QB in the draft. There's no way ownership or the new coaching staff would buy it even if Spielman does try to sell it.

Man. That is one ugly list of free agents. Josh McCown would be the only obvious choice. It almost (I said almost) makes you want to reconsider signing Josh Freeman for another season.Raptorman wrote:Pick a QB to start over Ponder if Cassel leaves.

Josh McCown, and thats ONLY if the team is that desperate to find someone to start instead of Ponder. None of these guys are what we need honestly. If we do take a shot at the FA, PLEASE RICK SPIELMAN, stay away from Michael Vick. He's washed up!Raptorman wrote:Pick a QB to start over Ponder if Cassel leaves.

Re: Prediction for next season starting QB will be ......
Why? He's been largely ineffective eveywhere he's been, save for this year under "QB Whisperer" Trestman. Nobody is going to pay McCown very much. He'll likely be back in Chicago at a modest salary for a veteran backup.Purplemania wrote:I don't mind McCown, but I just have this feeling we're going to give him a big contract
What intrigues you about the guy? He's the owner of a career 54.2 completion percentage on 155 pass attempts. In 2011 "Check down Charlie" was so ineffective in his second of two starts that he was pulled after only seven throws in favor of Tarvaris Jackson, who was dealing with a debilitating pectoral injury. FWIW, he knows Turner's system, though. But I can't envision him being an upgrade on Ponder at all.I'm intrigue by Whitehurst if Cassel leaves. He's a veteran QB with good accuracy.

So I took the list and looked up completion percentage, sorted by best. After the debacle with Rodgers being out I doubt Green Bay lets Flynn leave.
Code: Select all
Jordan Palmer 66.7 15 attempts
Shaun Hill 61.9
Matt Flynn 61.9
David Garrard 61.6
Trent Edwards 60.6
Tarvaris Jackson 59.6
Chad Henne 59.5
Josh McCown 59.4
Seneca Wallace 59.4
Dan Orlovsky 58.5
Colt McCoy 58.3
Luke McCown 58.0
Joe Webb 57.9
Josh Freeman 57.6
Michael Vick 56.2
Rex Grossman 55.2
Kellen Clemens 54.5
Charlie Whitehurst 54.2
Derek Anderson 52.8
Jimmy Clausen 52.5
Curtis Painter 51.6
Rusty Smith 51.1
Pat Devlin 0.0

No, that means he only has 15 attempts. 0.0. Not one attempt in his career. Rusty Smith has 45 attempts in 4 years.vikeinmontana wrote:does that mean a minimum of 15 attempts?! the 0.0% caught my eye.

Pretty much sums it up.mrc44 wrote:We already have two of the best free agent qb's on our team, why would we get rid f them both to pick up a crappier free agent qb?

Thank you Demi. I don't always agree with you but on this one we stand together.Demi wrote:We aren't stuck with Ponder. Even Slick Rick can't defend his boy any longer. Ponder.
ANY of them. I'm not kidding. Except T-Jack. Been there, done that. TWICE; because Ponder has been just as big a disaster!Raptorman wrote:Pick a QB to start over Ponder if Cassel leaves.

THIS!Webbfann wrote: They'll start Webb before Ponder if they want to stay in Minnesota. They will be run out of town if they try to start Ponder. Ponder is done.
The FAN played a "Family Feud" type game earlier this week and one of the questions was, "Who's the most hated sports figure in Minnesota?"
#1 was Ponder, and it wasn't close.
The organization is bringing in a new regime in hopes of turning things around. They can NOT be dumb enough to bring this guy back. They know how the fans feel.
Ponder needs to just go off with his gorgeous wife and the money he's stolen...sorry; made from being the worst starting QB in the NFL and go have a nice life.
Re: Prediction for next season starting QB will be ......
It sounds to me like PDS may have spiraled out of control in Minnesota and the Vikings fan community. It's time to call in the CDC!

Re: Prediction for next season starting QB will be ......
And as a reference point. Ponders completion percentage, 60.2. However, it has gone up every year. And before you jump on me, I am NOT saying Ponder is the guy. Just pointing out the facts. The list does not give one hope on signing a "good" FA QB. There are just not that many out there.Raptorman wrote:So I took the list and looked up completion percentage, sorted by best.
