And Houston is the only team of the three in front of us that will be drafting a quarterback.

I like Blair Walsh and he did a great job kicking long-ish FGs in poor field conditions, but I can't excuse the effort on the return TD. You have to do everything possible to stop him from scoring. Throw yourself on the ground and grab a leg. Anything. Baltimore's kicker got leveled trying to make a tackle on Patterson, but he tried. I'm not saying anything would have been different, but you have to make a better effort there.

I had a wild idea after thinking about this horrid game. How gutsy would it been if the vikings had snuck in an onside kick after their last TD? One of those onsiders where the kicker softly kicks it right in front of him. I know the conditions were horrible and it's probably too crazy to try even when you only have three wins, but I bet you it would have worked.

I just don't understand how you review that fumble and don't overturn the call. There was a blatant blow to the head on a hit early on against Cassel with no call. I thought there were some questionable calls when it came to spotting the ball but some of that can attributed to the weather. I thought the last play was a TD, and it was never going to be anything other than inconclusive.

The PI calls in our game and the patriots game are alarming. Too many officials changing the outcomes of games with shaky subjective calls. Penalties, especially personal fouls, should be reviewed by coaching challenges only.
Not sure what you really mean here. What kind of challenges are there other than coaching challenges?

But I agree that the officiating is atrocious with both calling penalties that shouldn't be called and not calling penalties when they should be called. I don't know why they don't allow all plays to be challenged. Yes, some penalties are such as PI is subjective, but so is spotting the ball. The ball is spotted where the ref thinks the ball should be spotted, but they aren't always correct in spotting the ball. If the ball isn't spotted correctly it can be reviewed and reversed. So why can't any other play, including penalties, be reviewed? For example, a face mask penalty is called but after seeing the replay it is obvious that the face mask was never grabbed, why can't it be challenged? Likewise on a PI call, if there is any question at all they can just call it inconclusive and let the call stand.

I know some people will say that it will increase the length of the game since there would be more challenges, but if each team is limited to 3 challenges, then it wouldn't matter. I just think you should be able to review any play and if the refs obviously blow a call then it should be reversed. Of course that doesn't always guarantee a call would be reversed as evidenced by the Garhardt non fumble today that wasn't reversed when it was obvious to everyone else that his knee was down.

I probably should have said I believe the only true way of doing review is to implement the college review system. Subjective calls are not automatically reviewed, only things like catches, fumbles, scores, etc. But a coach has 2 challenges a game to used on anything from spotting the ball to personal foul calls to PI.

well Jacksonville's win was on Thursday, so everyone was aware of that already. I was simply pointing out that we moved up another spot because of Tampa's win.

I wouldn't be completely shocked if St. Louis moved on from Sam Bradford this off season. Depends on what they think of the QBs behind Teddy I guess though

I would vote for that. Have someone in the booth that reviews all plays like college does and give the coach 2 challenges where they can use it on any play. I don't see any downside to that and think it would work a lot better than the current NFL system.

There just has to be an explanation given about the bungled Toby fumble review. I already said I don't believe any official is throwing a game, but there has to be an explanation. That's probably the worst review decision I've ever seen and I can't find an excuse for it.

me4get wrote: It hurts more when it's the REF's doing the cheating. On Jacoby Jones TD return there was an obvious block out of bounds behind the play, that should have been called. even though it did not effect the play it should have been called.
I went back and watched the play and that wasn't a block out of bounds. The blocker was in bounds at all times and never went out of bounds to block the defender (who was out of bounds). All the blocker did was get in front of the defender and got in his way to cut him off but since he was still in bounds you can't call that blocking out of bounds. And if you want to get technical about it (which you seem to do quite often), he wasn't pushed out of bounds, he ran out of bounds on his own to avoid running into Walsh, so you could say he could have gotten a penalty for running out of bounds on his own. It was a good no call.

The Rams have 5 wins so they aren't in contention for a top pick.

The Rams have the Redskins 1st round pick via the RG3 trade

Yeah, that whole trade has basically been a gold mine, if the rams make those picks work they're going to be ridiculous in a year or two. I wish we could have exploited the redskins for that ransom :( A modern day Herschel Walker trade.
