Eh, I've been a huge Ponder proponent, and he didn't do anything spectacular today to warrant the same feelings from me. Had Patterson not dropped his nice pass at the end of the 4th quarter, we might be sitting here giving Ponder a pat on the back...but let's not forget that even though he took sacks today instead of throwing picks, it doesn't take away from the fact that he was jumpy and uncool in the pocket. A better QB would've torn apart the Packers defense today and covered for the shoddy defense.radar55 wrote:People have railed on Ponder all year (lord knows that I have) but today there is NOOOO REASON to try and put the blame on him for the tie. The could of's and should of's go both ways with bad passes that could have been intercepted and good passes that should have been caught but the bottom line is that Ponder had a Q/B rating over 100 and we once again had a lead (13 points) going into the 4th quarter. Unfortunately, once again, the defense caved to allow a team to come back. Is Ponder the future, NOOOOOOOOOO but today he was certainly good enough and deserved a win.

Re: 103.9
There were 4 crucial dropped passes and one that should have been intercepted for sure. I don't think he needs or cares about anyone here giving him a pat on the back
He played a very good game today. And once again had this team in the lead with very little time remaining relative to the score. The D screwed it up just like they have in 5 other games that were lost.

Do not mistake KINDNESS for WEAKNESS!

Re: 103.9
He was mediocre AT BEST. Anyone who thinks this game was a feather in his cap has been watching really crappy lvl football (ie Vikings games) too long. Had he not been playing a sloppy secondary, there would have been at least 2 more INTs. And, as always, he was permanently rattled and confused. STILL staring down his primary receivers, STILL failing to look through and recognize his progressions. He looks NO BETTER then his very fist season.
Re: 103.9
His passer ratings in those games were 82.7, 113.1, 53 and 103.9. That averages out to 88.2. However, I don't know exactly how passer rating is calculated so I don't know if that's an accurate combined rating for the last 4 games.fiestavike wrote:what is ponder's combined passer rating over the last 4 weeks?
Re: 103.9
Overall Ponder played well enough for us to have won the game. The dropped balls and poor D caused the tie. However Ponder still did plenty of things that are consistent with his poor QB play. He was too quick to bail when his first read wasn't there. He took sacks instead of throwing the ball away etc etc. We have seen Ponder do well in the past only to tank again. So while I was happy with his overall play I still don't want him as our QB.

Over Ponder's last 4 games he has went:
ATT = 110
Comp = 76
Yds=772
TDs=5
INTs=4
for an 88.9 Passer Rating (The "straight average" is actually close to what the correct passer rating is)
I've told people a million times not to exaggerate!

Re: 103.9
The problem with this game is that the offense only put up 26 points in 5 quarters going against a practice squad QB for 2 and a half of them and then a street free agent for the rest and also a shoddy packers D. That means no pressure what so ever and they got to execute their game plan for the entire game. That means Musgrave's conservative play calling the entire time and in typical Musgrave fashion we start playing to run the clock out in the early 3rd quarter with our whopping 13 point lead.
Like every other game that we allow to come down to the wire, we only score 6 points (2 field goals) in the final 30:00 minutes banking on the defense not to lose the game because we sure as heck don't try to win.
Even when good Ponder shows up the real problem is 100% still musgrave and this team isn't really good enough to over come his deficiencies. Can't even put up points with close to 500 yards of offense because he just gets to conservative in the redzone. Running Gerhart and AD for close to 200 yards between the 20's is fine but you can't run goal line formations at the 19 yard line when the field begins to narrow further.
We faced a GB team that everyone knows is pretty much trash without rodgers and we had to hold on for dear life in play not to lose fashion just to run out the clock in OT for the tie lol. That's with Ponder's 103.9 so clearly better QB play isn't going to help this offense much. It's a problem at the decision maker level and that's why I'm okay with this team losing right now. Our only hope to have a winning record year in and year out with these leaders is for Peterson to activate god mode. That's the only thing that can over come the negative impact this coaching staff has on the team.

Re: 103.9
Banking on this defense to hold a lead in the 2nd half of a game is like digging an olympic size swimming pool with a spoon. I guess its possible to do but its going to take a very long time b4 you see the results you want.
Re: 103.9
Can't wait for the 250 threads this offseason comparing Ponder's good stretch of games to his bad stretch of games, while quoting stats from the 1967 season of Johnny Unitas and the fate of the 87 Oilers. It's bound to be riveting.

Is that pic of Krause from the 1969 football card? I have a lot of old cards and I know that was the shape of the pic on them.Just Me wrote:Ponder's passer rating today...

Re: 103.9
Not that it matters, but Fraizer stated last night that Ponder will be starting again against the Bears. I still want to see Freeman play another game now that he knows the offense.
