It's sad that one year wonders such as Favre and Cunningham are considered the top QBs in Vikings history.

After that it's Moon, Culpepper, Kramer and Kapp.

I put both Favre and Cunningham up there because since the 70's those two gave us the closest chance to making it to the big show (should have won both games in NFC Champ games). Only other QB who took us to NFC Champ game in recent years was Wade Wilson in 87 and Culpepper in 2000 (which was an embarrassment).

I REALLY enjoyed Favre coming here. One because it drove the Packer fans nuts ( )
Two because he was the first true Elite QB I had seen wearing purple since Tark and Tommie Kramer.

BUTTTTTTT......He only had one good year left in him...so I cant put him on the list.

I love these since I've been around long enough to remember Viking QBs before Culpepper.

1. Francis Asbury Tarkenton
No brainer. HOFer that put up most of the stats with the Vikes. 3 Super Bowls - win or lose - is impressive.

2. Favre
If you're going to go with the best QB to wear a Viking uni and not take into account how long they were here; this one is easy as well. He had the best single season ever for a Viking QB.

3. Moon
Again - as with Favre - doesn't matter how long he was here. He was a great QB and he wore purple.

4. Kramer
I really liked him. Good arm. Clutch, clutch player. They didn't call him "Two-minute Tommy" for nothing. Great leader. He had that QB swag. Was good. Could have and should have been great. I think he had too many off-field issues that helped prevent him from reaching his full potential. Too injury prone too. A near miss at real greatness.

5. Culpepper
Dude was awesome when he was on! Great arm. Big and fast. Could really hurt opponents running too. Easily the most physically gifted QB the Vikes ever had. Never got the feeling that he would have been too good in a real clutch situation. Don't think you could have ever won a Super Bowl with him, but he was sure fun to watch. Too bad a destroyed knee destroyed his career too soon.

had a ton of promise, he had a fantastic season in 1986, was the pro bowl starter. 1987 strike shortened year, Vikings went 0-3 in replacement player games and finished 8-7 (One game was canceled that year) On the run to the title game that started in New Orleans, they decided to start Wade Wilson, similar to what the 9ers did last season. Worked out well, and I know hindsight is 20/20 at times, but I would have liked to see Kramer start the title game in Washington, little more experience.

Same here. I think they might have advanced to the Super Bowl if Kramer had played QB in that game.

If I remember, Kramer by that time had suffered some nerve damage in his shoulder or something and could not throw with the authority he once did. He threw some pretty lame ducks near the end of his career and had become pretty ineffective. He had a gun in his early days.

And his playoff experience to that point consisted of one game. The division round against Philly in 1980. At least Wade had played all the meaningful minutes against the Saints and the 49ers.

We'll never know though. Maybe Tommy could have found some of that old magic. Would have been awesome.

Yeah, well Tommy also had a bit of a booze problem. He was fighting the bottle AND injuries. He hada good run, but I dont think the Vikes gave up on him too early.

I'm enjoying the love for Brad Johnson. He was a stand-up guy, and always managed to close out a game with a first down late in the 4th quarter to seal the victories. Plus, he was the first (probably still the only) QB to throw a TD pass to himself, in 1997.

I was never a Culpepper fan. Just way too many turnovers, and way too many games lost against incredibly bad teams. It seems hard to believe, but you can go look it up: The Vikings went 9-3 against the rest of the league in 2003 with Culpepper at the helm, and 0-4 against the four worst teams in the league (the 4-12 Giants, Raiders, Chargers, and Cardinals, in that last game loss on the TD to Nate Poole).

Really interesting to see all the love for TK here. I was young when he was our QB so he's kind of an icon in my head, but I also have the memory of my dad telling me that he met him after one of the games at the met and that he was three sheets to the wind already. Did Kramer have a well-documented drinking problem? Did it hinder his career? I remember Wade Wilson a little better than 2 minute Tommy.
