Just wanted to say hello to you all. My name is Matt, I'm 26 and I'm a long distance fan.
I started watching the NFL last year, about mid-way through last season although admittedly I knew very little about the sport. Now I'm hooked! I have seen every game this season apart from the defeat to GB last weekend, The time difference and my working commitments put paid to that although I was able to watch the recording the following evening.
I'm a UK based fan, from a town in the North West of England called Warrington (between Manchester and Liverpool) I watch a lot of a sport called Rugby League which is pretty popular in the UK and the team I follow are from a little town called Widnes, The team name is Widnes Vikings. Once I started watching the NFL picking a team was easy solely based upon the name and now I'm purple through and through.
I'm still learning about the sport each and every time I watch it, and I spend all of my free time watching highlights, trawling through the NFL news website and various Iphone apps as well as the Vikings website and mobile app. I managed to see the Vikings live and in person this season and it was absolutley incredible! I travelled down to London for the weekend with my girlfriend and we stayed 2 nights with the game right in the middle of our stay. We managed to get to the fan event over at Regent Street that saw an estimated 500,000 people pass through in just 8 hours. The following day was game day. Having never been to Wembley before I didn't know what to expect but I certainly wasn't disappointed. The atmosphere was electric! There were more people at the event than I have ever seen at any other sporting event in my life! Everything from the pre-game show, the american food served all around the stadium, the cheer leaders and of course the result were just incredible.
My goal now is to get across to Minnesota and see a real home game. Hopefully I will be able to get over there at some point next season to realise what really would be a dream come true.
Anyway enough waffle about me, It's great to finally be able to post (having been a reader for some time) I will apologise in advance if I ask some dumb questions but as I say I'm still learning and I've got a long way to go.
A huge HELLO from the UK and I hope to talk to some of you soon!
