Second that. And puts EVERYONE on entire roster on NOTICE when AP is traded. If Vikes could trade AP for quality package, and go into next year with 5-6 picks from first 3 rounds of '14 draft, combined with young core already on team, could be quick turn around over next 2-3 years.JEC334 wrote: No one said trading AP will make the team better but getting some draft picks for trading him will give us hope for rebuilding in the future.

Re: Trade AD, Fire Frazier
I believe that we are pretty much in the same boat with AD as we are with JA contract-wise.
It would be more than difficult to find a team willing(dumb enough) to give up fair value via draft picks as well as take on his contract.
For better or worse the Vikes are pot committed to Peterson until they are ready to cut him. His value will only decline as he ages regardless of what Vikings fans think of him.
RBs do not bring championships without a whole host of other pieces. namely a competent o-line and stud QB. I don't see one team out there who is a $100,000,000 RB short of the Superbowl anyway.
But keep starting threads about it~

This coaching staff is gone and we all know it. We just have to sit through the rest of the #&*(@#ing season now. God, has it ever been any lower

A successful coach needs a patient wife, loyal dog, and great quarterback - and not necessarily in that order.

Wrong. Vikes would eat the signing bonus, and new team would only be on hook for salary, which is heavily front loaded. Any AP trade more then likely would happen in offseason, which would leave the amount of salary owed from receiving team more then affordable and commiserate with his value and production. The Breeze wrote:I believe that we are pretty much in the same boat with AD as we are with JA contract-wise.

Vikes would have cap room to eat his signing bonus with Allen, AP, Williams, Robinson, Ponder, and others all off books.

Wrong. Peterson's _salary_ this year is $11.25 million dollars.rugbyrugger23 wrote: Wrong. 2011 8,250,000
2012 8,000,000
2013 11,250,000
2014 11,750,000
2015 12,750,000
2016 14,750,000
2017 15,750,000
Not many teams would take on that kind of salary load for a running back, even for last year's MVP. The Vikings are stuck with Peterson.
Re: Trade AD, Fire Frazier
So, you believe trading away one of the best RBs in NFL History for draft picks is a guarantee of the Vikings getting better? Since when? Addition by subtraction only works if the loss of the player you are giving away is more than offset by the players you add. And three unproven, yet to be drafted rookies are better than AD? The only way that scenario even comes close to working out in the Vikings favor is if they draft an elite QB. And the draft is a complete crapshoot when it comes to QB talent. And then you don't have AD, so...
Besides, as has been reiterated over and over, no team in this league is going for a Herschel Walker-type trade. And he is worth nothing less than that.
Hence, you would have to be an idiot to trade AD.

Who said anything about guaranteed chances of getting better. I could have sworn I said it gives us HOPE of rebuilding for the future. And I don't see how trading AD is idiotic when having him here still doesn't make the team any more competitive than what they already are.BGM wrote:So, you believe trading away one of the best RBs in NFL History for draft picks is a guarantee of the Vikings getting better? Re: Trade AD, Fire Frazier
Thank you for proving my point. If traded, Vikes would pay AP's signing bonus and almost all of his guaranteed money. The receiving team would gladly pay AP for his level of production 11-12 million a year. BUT if his production drops off after couple years, cut him at no cost to them (since Vikes paid guaranteed money). Or of course receiving team could restructure his deal to be more cap friendly...but would run the risk of shelling out more guaranteed money for a aging RB.Eli wrote: Wrong. But in the big scheme I would entertain trading ANYONE on this team to get the team enough ammo to acquire a top shelf QB. But only in that quest would I be OK with trading AD.
We can realistically win a SB with a top shelf QB and an "adequate" RB. I feel VERY safe in stating we cannot win a SB with the current makeup of this team.
Look, I loved the Vikes long before AD and I will love them long after he is gone. When his time comes to leave is relatively unimportant to me.
I just want to see the team win a SB before I die, and right now they are not heading in that direction IMO.
Then again, maybe they are indeed heading in the "right direction". A horrible season could actually start the ball rolling. But IMO if this team goes 6-10 or 7-9 or some such quasi-positive record, we'll continue to stagnate without major trade(s).

Re: Trade AD, Fire Frazier
So you are trading him for the HOPE of getting better? He DOES make the team more competitive by being here. Remember last season?JEC334 wrote: Who said anything about guaranteed chances of getting better. I could have sworn I said it gives us HOPE of rebuilding for the future. Again, the ONLY scenario that makes even a little sense is trading to draft an elite QB (again - crapshoot). Or trade one-for-one for an elite QB (which will NEVER happen).

Re: Trade AD, Fire Frazier
I know seems like too good of a deal for team receiving AP in trade. Chris Johnson is 12mil, McFadden 9.6, Lynch is 8.5, Foster is 8.2. More one looks at numbers, trading for AP is a deal due to Vikes paying up soooo much guaranteed money.Eli wrote:

I agree wholeheartedly. But, unfortunately, no one is trading their elite QB for AD, and as much as I would love to see a great QB drafted, even that is a crapshoot. For example, I really like Manziel and think he'll be great in teh NFL, but who knows? I also thought Rick Mirer would be a great QB when he was drafted. Re: Trade AD, Fire Frazier
If we trade Peterson it would be out of feeling bad for this guy being on such a pathetic team so I approve for him. In addition I approve thinking of what the return could be. We are destined to get a high pick with our own where we can get a real QB, would we get another first and a second at least for AD, (more?). Add in a new set of caches who know how to win and maybe he have a future
