in the movie the rock when sean connery is teaching nicholas cage how to kill, he says, "there can be no hesitation." there is a direct correlation to being a great quarterback too. all ponder does is hesitate and he has NO killer instinct whatsoever. he will fade out this year, sit on someone's bench for a couple, and then be gone from the nfl. i don't care if its preseason or not, we are talking about the buffalo bills and people are making them sound like the steel curtain or purple people eaters. its downright pathetic for an nfl qb to complete less than 50 percent of his throws.

I have absolutely no way of knowing but I'm close to 50/50 on being 100% pecent certain that playing QB for the Vikings is just like being Nick Cage in a movie and literally killing people.

You have no way of knowing, but you're half certain on being certain, percent percent?

Love.

Killing. You're killing ME here.

...just having fun with you of course. That just made me laugh.

@ Melanie:
It's entirely possible that Ponder could be the Nick Cage of the NFL. That first pass he made his rookie year against GB on the double move to Jenkins could be his finest moment.....just like Cages performance in Valley Girl.
However, Ponder has yet to have his 'Raising Arizona', which would have to rate at least an NFCC game IMO.
Everything else....meh.
G'night ~

I would rather he be like Cage in "Next", were he knows what's going to happen 15 seconds before is does. The Breeze wrote:@ Melanie:

One thing everyone is missing here.....games are different when ADRIAN PETERSON is in the backfield.
Of course he brings a different dynamic to the offense. Let's see how it goes this week. AP should get some reps this next game.
IMO Ponder should have played more in the first two games. It's not like he is a 10 year veteran and couldn't use the reps.

Don't hate on my Buckeyes. Some of the best Vikings went to Ohio State.

melanie: i think the movie quote you might be looking for is from naked gun when he tells him o.j. simpson's odds for survival. "well the doctor says there is a 50/50 chance, but then there is only a 10 percent chance of that."

LOL! Yeah, that was pretty craptastic.Texas Vike wrote:He has taken ONE play from a PRESEASON game and arrived at the conclusion that Ponder is afraid to make certain throws and will not cut it in the NFL? Whatever creates interest and generates hits is the name of the game these days.
He says that but that doesn't mean his assessment is accurate. He also says the coverage drops stymied Ponder but he doesn't say what those drops were and I suspect he doesn't even know since he's pretty clearly just playing armchair QB from a TV broadcast. As shown in the screen caps he provided, throwing to Jennings on that play could be pretty risky depending on what's going on ahead of Jennings, upfield. #43 has dropped in a spot where Ponder needs to throw over him to get the ball to Jennings so if there's a defender upfield closing toward Jennings or in good position, that's not going to work. Ponder needs room to put enough arc on the ball and lead Jennings with that throw. Maybe he had it and maybe he didn't. Neither the author or the screencaps provide enough information to make that determination and I'm not going to just take his word for it.VikingLord wrote: I agree with the author of the article. He clearly says that the Bills gave Ponder a throw option on the play to Jennings...
Ponder made several nice plays against Buffalo where he sidestepped pressure, didn't panic, and completed passes for nice gains. Have we reached the point where merely reacting to pressure instead of standing fearlessly motionless in the pocket and taking a hit is considered skittish?

I participate in a lot of it but I still know how you feel. It will be nice when the "Ponder question" has been answered one way or another.80 PurplePride 84 wrote:I am so tired of the Ponder discussion.
I can't wait til next year when it's all over whether that be by Ponder playing great or the Vikings (yet, again) searching for a QB.
Of course, that will mean about a 3 game grace period (if that) for the next QB and then it will all start again! The Vikes are going to have to find an instant superstar because a substantial percentage of theirfan base clearly doesn't have the patience for anything else.

What a truly disgusting display of NFL football. Nothing like getting your #### kicked to build confidence.

Come on Jim, three games

Maybe 3 plays?Purple bruise wrote:Come on Jim, three gamesdidn't you mean three seconds

Hopefully, they won't even need a new QB next year.
Back to the game: it's interesting to see how much the Vikes are using the shotgun formation this preseason and I'm curious to see how extensively they'll use it during the regular season, especially when Adrian Peterson is in the game.
Also: I don't know if it's been talked about already but over these first two games, I like the way Patterson runs the quick slant. It seems like a good pattern for him and he's executing it well.

Perhaps you should adjust to that since that's all the Bills did was blitz. Throw a quick slantSLCVikefan wrote: Considering most plays all he had was 1 second, that's a great take...
