....and to think, it was down to him and OT Kalil in last years draft! I think the Vikings made the right pick!

I think Kalil was the guy all along and there wasn't any genuine interest in Blackmon.

Didn't see this coming.

Except in this case. Blackmon had multiple red flags coming out of Ok. State. These flags include: maturity issues, DUI, and overinflation of value due to coming out of a pass oriented offense.thatguy wrote:Hindsight is always 20/20...
I never wanted Blackmon. I never wanted Morris Claiborne either. Glad we took Kalil and got extra picks.

Justin Blackmon - WR - Jaguars
PFT confirms Justin Blackmon's four-game suspension for violating the league's substance-abuse policy didn't stem from his two drunk-driving arrests.
It's possible Blackmon's pre-NFL arrests counted as two strikes — a four-game ban for violating the substance-abuse policy requires at least three infractions — but they were not the impetus for his suspension. Adderall is also not a possibility, as it falls under the PED policy. Blackmon would be facing a year-long suspension for another violation.

It is sad. It sounds like Blackmon might need to join a twelve-step program.PurpleMustReign wrote: Unreal. Makes me sad.

Justin Blackmon - WR - Jaguars
The Jaguars have no intention of releasing suspended WR Justin Blackmon.
Thanks to a unique contract, the Jags could cut Blackmon without having to pay the roughly $10 million that remains on his $18.5 million rookie deal. But ESPN's Paul Kuharsky says he knows "for sure" that won't happen. "He realizes he's at a crossroad, not only in his career but in his life," GM David Caldwell said. Blackmon will be eligible to participate in training camp and preseason games. He'll then miss the first four games of the season before being reinstated on the Monday before Week 5.

Justin Blackmon AP
Jaguars wide receiver Justin Blackmon is suspended for the first four games of the regular season and he’s not able to play right now because he’s recovering from groin surgery, so you’d might have thought he’d keep a low profile during Friday night’s game against the Dolphins.
That was not the case, however. Mark Long of the Associated Press reports that Blackmon got into a verbal altercation with Dolphins cornerback Nolan Carroll on the sideline during the first half of the game. Jaguars coach Gus Bradley had to step in to calm things down, but, according to Long, things flared up again when Jaguars defensive end Jason Babin suggested that Blackmon not talk trash with opponents when he’s facing a suspension.
That led to further arguing and Blackmon was eventually escorted from the field by running back Maurice Jones-Drew. Gene Frenette of the Florida Times Union reports that Bradley said after the game that he met with Blackmon to let him know he wasn’t happy about the receiver’s actions on the sideline.
“That’s not what we want on the sideline. That’s not who we are or what we want to become,” Bradley said.
Absent other concerns about a player’s maturity, this probably wouldn’t be too big a deal. For Blackmon, though, it fits with a pattern that hasn’t led to much good news in his brief NFL career.
