Re: How happy are you with this draft?
Most analyst believe the Vikings had the best draft.
Me personally, I enjoyed the draft. I was a little disappointed when we didnt pick up Te'o but when we got Patterson I was ecstatic!

Or when he was told not to kick the ball near Hester and he does two times in a row and costs the Vikes the gamethor wrote:I'm happy with the first three picks. Not that thrilled with drafting the punter, I like kluwe. Except when he randomly shanks the crap out of it.

Do not mistake KINDNESS for WEAKNESS!

Wasn't that against Reggie Bush?Purple bruise wrote: Or when he was told not to kick the ball near Hester and he does two times in a row and costs the Vikes the game

I never actually read anywhere that the coaches told him not to kick it to reggie bush. I always chalked that up more to the coaches than I did Kluwes ego

Very pleased but only time will tell!!

I don't think it had anything to do with ego. I think he just failed to execute.PurpleJarl wrote:I never actually read anywhere that the coaches told him not to kick it to reggie bush. I always chalked that up more to the coaches than I did Kluwes ego
Childress made it crystal clear after that game that he had told Kluwe not to kick it to Bush. That said, I always blamed those returns far more on the coverage teams than the punter.

In all honesty, I don't believe for a second that, that is what Childress told kluwe, I really wouldn't trust Childresses interpretation of events involving his own trip to the WC.

By the way, you said you'd never read anywhere that the coaches told Kluwe not to kick it to Reggie Bush so for what it's worth, here you go:
http://www.twincities.com/vikings/ci_10 ... ck_check=1
Of course, none of this is really relevant to the current situation anyway! At that point, Vikings head coach Brad Childress instructed Kluwe to start punting the balls out of bounds. But at the end of the third quarter, Kluwe's 49-yard punt was not even close to the left sideline, and Bush stiff-armed Maurice Hicks and juked several other Vikings before slipping and settling for a 29-yard return.
Childress got into Kluwe's face on the sideline.
But early in the fourth quarter, Kluwe mishit a punt, which only traveled 39 yards and was easily in bounds, and Bush shot straight up the middle, with Henderson and Eric Frampton diving and missing. Bush scored on a 64-yard touchdown.
"Both of those kicks are supposed to be out of bounds," Childress said, "and when you say to somebody kick the ball out of bounds, that's what you expect to happen.
"That's
what I expect to happen with a professional football kicker."
Asked if Kluwe cannot handle directional punting, Childress shot back, "You know what? If he can't do that, I'll find someone that can kick the ball out of bounds."
Told of Childress' comments, Kluwe said he didn't mean to disappoint his coach.
"Obviously, I'd love to be able to do it whenever they like," Kluwe said, "but sometimes it doesn't work out like you want it to."

Re: How happy are you with this draft?
cant fill every need. with the addition of shariff maybe the Vikings will have something similar to the Williams wall again. Patterson should be much better than sidney rice one day. maybe we can address the qb position and mlb position next year if things don't work out.MV711 wrote:Very pleased but only time will tell!!

A solid B-. A+ if Patterson pans out.
Re: How happy are you with this draft?
I am definitely pleased with this years draft. But I wanted Alabama's O Lineman Barrett Jones last year....and he was available late this weekend for the Vikes to grab. That would have made the draft an A+++

It was. And it didn't "cost the Vikes the game" because they won it. But yeah.Mothman wrote: Wasn't that against Reggie Bush?

Re: How happy are you with this draft?
I loved our day one picks tremendously. Obviously we didn't have any picks during the second day, although was anticipating a trade up into the third round. Day three just confused the hell out of me. I guess I just thought there were better players on the board than some of the guys we picked. I kind of wanted some guys such as Zach Dysert, Ryan Swope, or Reid Fragel. Oh well, at least they did not ignore the offensive guard spot. However, I doubt either Bond nor Bacca will be competing for a starting job anytime soon.

Re: How happy are you with this draft?
Good post. This is exactly how I feel about the situation. The last rounds of the draft are never really too exciting for me, but I'll admit yesterday left me a little confused as well. Oh well. We'll see how it plays out! I'm so happy about our first round that I'm not worried too much about our late picks. I'm just excited to see our first three on the field!HardcoreVikesFan wrote:I loved our day one picks tremendously.
