Yet another reason why I think the Vikings may vary formations next season. This is especially true if they do well at WR in the draft.
They worked Rudolph to death last year, with a lot of those snaps having him lined up wide and running downfield patterns, and many others having him block on running plays. In the end, most of his catches ended up being dumpoffs. He has a knack for settling into an opening in the defense, but that's not how you use a great TE. Whether or not Rudolph will actually become a great one is yet to be seen, but the Vikings didn't do him any favors last year.

They might not have "done him any favors" but he made the Pro Bowl so they might be doing some things right. I really like the way that he is used in the offense and it seems very effective. He has been a great addition as a run blocker and a clutch receiver.

Rudolph is a mediocre run blocker on a good day. He has great hands, though, and he can catch the ball in traffic. Which is exactly what you need with an inexperienced QB like Ponder, who often appears to be looking for somewhere to hide. He saved Ponder's bacon more than a few times.

The Sea Chickens are going to be the NYG as our non-divisional most hated team this decade. Well along with the Saints…
I watched a lot of Seattle last season. Funny, I couldn't stand them when I lived in Spokane and they were televised (instead of the Vikes) each week. I thought Wilson looked like the best of the young QB's. The guy was incredible. I'm probably wrong, but I would take him over any of the rookies, and even guys like Eli (easily) and maybe Flacco by the end of 2013. And they added two of my favorite Vikings - Sid and Percy. And Marshawn Lynch is a great running back who could be a 1500 yard guy year in and year out. So I can't be hating them.

Looks like you and I are about the only two that think Russell Wilson is the real deal. Personally, I thought the guy did an amazing job last year and I don't see him slowing down any time soon.

I think he's very impressive and I believe he can be a successful NFL QB for years to come but one year doesn't make a career so there's no way I'd take him over a much more proven QB like Flacco at this point. Wilson's playing a very youthful style of football but I wonder if he'll be able to sustain it and if he has to move away from his running, athletic style a bit in the years to come and be more of a pocket passer, will his height become a more significant issue?
I won't be 100% sold on any of the "read option" QBs that have had success the last two years until I see how they perform once defenses adjust to that strategy (and I have no doubt they will adjust).
I think this will be the year of the readjustment on the Read Option. A lot of film out there between Seattle, WSH, and SF.
The QB still needs to be able to make his reads, look what the Ravens did to Kaepernick. They kept contain on him and the Secondary played solid coverage.

Tomlin said the same thing in an interview from the owner's meetings.

Oh come on, Jim, you're just pouting because of all Tarvaris Jackson Vikings jerseys that you bought during the Childress era. And now you can't give them away.
I tried to tell you T-Jack wasn't all that. But noooo, you said Tarvaris was Canton bound!

Russell has always been a throw first QB who supplements his throwing with his innate ability to feel the defense and take off when needed. Seattle was never heavy in the read option until the very later stages of the year when they wanted to add an element to the offense. Wilson had displayed strong growth and progression in his passing and they wanted to utilize his athleticism once he was able to work within their offense.
As far as height goes...It's a dead issue in my opinion. I've done a write-up regarding him before and just all the components involved in his game definitely help in offsetting his height. A quick list: An almost exagerrated overhand delivery, a deeper first drop step to give him more separation from the line on his dropbacks, plays that move the pocket to give Wilson even further separation and bigger windows, and he also was successful playing behind an NFL sized line at Wisconsin. He'll still get balls batted and what not, but he's like Drew Brees with how he uses mechanics and parts of his game to compensate for lack of height.
He's like a walking intangible too. The guys work ethic, knowledge, and leadership abilities are outstanding.
ponder shows no heart or enthusiasm whatsoever, that is why most fans dislike him. when he gets criticized he just says something like "i have to get better next game." well, we are all waiting for that to actually happen.

... and yet they're still easier to move than all those Brad Childress hoodies you convinced me to invest in.
