Hey bartender. Give me a stiff one. My car was broken into.
luckily nothing major was stolen.
I went right from work to Hollywood Video to pick up my buddy then we went to his place and at about Midnight I leave to go home. I get in and I see that my glove compartment door is open. It's a #### because I have to finagle it to get it closed again. So I immediately knew what happened and I looked at the cubby hole in the arm rest. And sure enough, wide open and about 1/2 of my CDs are gone. They didn't take my CD player or a bag of DVDs that was just kinda wedged under the front passenger seat. I'm guessing they were looking for keys, but I never leave my keys in my car. I'm #### pissed that my CDs are gone, but what can you do. Cops dont give a ####.

That sucks man I am sorry next time I will be sure to take the stereo and dvds also, that way the cops may actually do something ;p No but in all seriousness that does suck even if they did not get much because that is your stuff you know. It is just kind of like a feeling of being violated or something like that. But I am glad to hear that you still have a car and that they did not eff up the igniton or anything else trying to steal it.
The police will do NOTHING unless they catch the thief in the act.
My wife had her car broken into a few years ago. The CD player, which was stolen, had a children's music cd in it, and the thief had pulled it out and left it behind. There were perfectly clear finger prints on it (we don't print up our CD's) for the police to pull.
The police officer gave some story about not wanting to damage the CD, and we said pull the prints anyway. They did absolutely nothing, and the officer didn't have the guts to tell us that was the plan all along.
Getting CD's ripped off is bad, but it's better than the CD player and getting the dash torn up. I usually only play backup ripped CD's in the car because the heat in the summer and cold in the winter can damage the originals. Also, if the backups get stolen, it wouldn't be as big of a deal.

Pretty much the same thing happened to me a few years back too. They stole my Discman and some CDs, but the cop was acting like it was an inconvience for him to be there. My car door was smashed in and the glass was broken too.
mmmm
I was always partial to 7and 7's myself.
Will give swaps a Long Island Ice Tea. Those do the

You can always file a complaint with the officers department.
Cops are paid public servants and have an obligation to
uphold the law. Not the ones the choose too. IMO more cops
need to stop people like this so there crimes don't escalate as years
go by. We pay taxes for a reason.

that's a poor wording choice. We all have an obligation to uphold the law. The Police SHOULD have an obligation to ENFORCE the law.
however, to an individual, they have no obligations at all.
example.
The case of Warren v. District of Columbia.
Warren v. District of Columbia, 444 A.2d 1 (D.C. Ct. of Ap., 1981).Two women were upstairs in a townhouse when they heard their roommate, a third woman, being attacked downstairs by intruders. They phoned the police several times and were assured that officers were on the way. After about 30 minutes, when their roommate's screams had stopped, they assumed the police had finally arrived. When the two women went downstairs they saw that in fact the police never came, but the intruders were still there. As the Warren court graphically states in the opinion: "For the next fourteen hours the women were held captive, raped, robbed, beaten, forced to commit sexual acts upon each other, and made to submit to the sexual demands of their attackers."
The three women sued the District of Columbia for failing to protect them, but D.C.'s highest court exonerated the District and its police, saying that it is a "fundamental principle of American law that a government and its agents are under no general duty to provide public services, such as police protection, to any individual citizen."
what kind of BS is that?

Ya wow, cops totally suck! We should just get rid of them, they are lazy bastards who are just out to earn a paycheck and harass people.
Now on a serious note, I am completely stunned at some of the ignorant comments on this. I could do a lengthy lengthy reply but i doubt that it would even sink in.
Are there bad cops out there? Absolutely! I have also had bad experiences from waitresses, lawyers, doctors, service desk girl at the Wal-Mart....ect.....
What exactly would you have liked the cops to do regarding the loss of your cd's?? We've all had stuff like that stolen, and it sucks but I hardly want the police to spend a bunch of manpower and $ on something like that and realistically what could they do anyway....

I the case I listed above, there was a mini-crime wave in the area of broken-in cars with items stolen. Here we had a great set of prints, as detailed as using ink on a print sheet, and the police did nothing with them. What exactly would you have liked the cops to do regarding the loss of your cd's?? I know some great police officers, but these guys are not the great protectors of the citizenry. Their job is to get as many traffic tickets they can in order to fund the police department. It's a bad joke.

Re:
Virtually the same exact thing happened to me, though it was a tape player, not CD. (Giving you a clue as to how freaking old I am!) Took the faceplate, left the player. I had the same reaction - WTF? Just did it to be a ####, I guess.Swaps wrote:About 10 years ago or so someone broke into my car and took all the CDs I had plus the FACEPLATE to my CD player...
WTF!?
The #### faceplate cost me $99 to replace on a $150 cd player.

hey, over reaction ####...
where did I ever say "I need the cops to find this #### so I can get my mix CD back."
I didn't.
All I said was that the cops dont give a ####. I KNOW they're not going to do anything about my CDs stolen. I never said I expected them to. So sit back in the recliner, puff on the hooka, and chill the #### out.

Re: Hey bartender. Give me a stiff one. My car was broken into.
I used to live in an apartment that was half a block away from the city/county line. We kept having cars broken into. One night a cop had nothing better to due so he parked himself in one of the parking lots. Well low and behold here come the crooks. They break into a car, the cop pulls up with his lights on, they take off, the cop runs after them. When he gets to the street he stops, the crooks keep running. So I question him. He won't cross the city/county line. So I tell him next time I will wait with a gun, shoot the crooks and cross the county line since he can't chase me. And then before he can say anything I walk away. Two nights later they chase the crooks into the waiting arms of sheriff's deputies. Guess they didn't want a shooting on their hands.

The Dude: Do you find them much, these, stolen cars?
Younger Cop: Sometimes. Wouldn't hold out much hope for the tape deck though.
Older Cop: Or the Creedence.
