If you don't study well by sitting for a long time, then study in small chunks of time. Study for fifteen minutes, then go do something for five or ten minutes. The key is that YOU HAVE TO GO BACK TO STUDYING! It doesn't work to study for fifteen minutes, do something for two hours and the forget to come back to studying. :)

Don't try to cram. Cramming never, ever works.

Find a study partner who is doing well. They may be able to help you with study tips and help keep you focused.

Be confident and don't psych yourself out. Look at your finals as a challenge that you can overcome. Did any of your teachers give you study guides? Use them!!

If you have worksheets and old tests from the past year, especially in World History, look them over and see where you struggled and focus on those things. Don't waste your time studying the stuff you already know.

Finally, get a good night's sleep before your finals. I know more people that screwed up their finals because they didn't get enough sleep.

And good luck!!

I just finished my semester tests last week. I am in Highschool so I could give you advice.
First study your hardest subject you have to take on the first test day. This always helps me, because you can get that one out of the way. Also you can go back over it when you are done studying all of your other subjects.

Secondly, if studying for a long period of time makes you lose focus, go do something else for 15 minutes. Then come back and pick up where you left off.

Thirdly, if you have any older brothers or sisters, have then help you study. My older brother and his girlfriend helped me study, and I performed very well.

Finally, I don't know what kind of student you are. I don't know if you are a dedicated A student or an average C student. I am a student who gets a B almost every-time, and I am happy with it. My final piece of advice is this: you are going to miss some and you are going to get a lot right. You will do fine if you belive in yourself. If know you can do it, you can do it. If you think you can't do it, you can't do it. It all depends on your attitude.

Hope this helps. Good luck!

 I have successfully crammed before too.

But my advice is simply to do your best studying so that you have no regrets and then stop worrying and simply do the best you can on the test without concern for the final result.

Just like in baseball or football, you leave it all on the field and don't stress about anything else.

But in this case, the "game" isn't the tests...the game is the studying. Just do your best and let the chips fall where they may and if you don't achieve your goals, reflect on your effort throughout the year and find out where you went wrong so that next year you can work even harder and achieve your goals.

Oh yeah and Spencer, if you get to answer you can't get, just move on. Don't waste your time on an answer. It will trick into thinking you have to answer that one answer. Then you get really stress and forget the stuff you know. This happened to me on my Spainish and Math sem.tests. Just skip it and come back to it latter. If you can't get it latter on, just guess. You'll do fine. Good luck!

Not sure if I can be of any help! Usually never am! But as far as cramming is concerned. What exactly is that? I mean, ever since I started back into getting a degree, I was exposed to the accelerated learning programs that were designed for 8 week blocks. If doing the homework, assignments, and labs in those 8 weeks isn't considered cramming, then I have no idea of what you folks are talking about!

If you're taking 8 week classes, wouldn't it be pointless to wait till the final week to decide to study? In fact, how could you not study while taking an 8 week course? If you've done it, I'd love to know how!

I finally got my degree last year and have put my Masters goals on hold for awhile, but now I just got accepted into an internship program that will squeeze additional training over the Internet for the next 18 weeks!

Those of you still attending college courses or taking business school classes who know of a good time management program you could share, would you please be so kind as to post that info here? Thanks in advance!

Oh, and to the original poster of this thread! GOOD LUCK!

Thanks guys. Let's give the kid bad habits already... :)

You may be able to successfully cram for one test, but for a full slate? And for a comprehensive final?

I did cram once or twice in college, but that meant all-nighters and then a furious memorizing session just before the test. Came out of those tests exhausted. And I don't remember a single thing I crammed. :)

One thing that's worked for me, I didn't view the exam as being a test, rather a survey or "opinion poll" - approaching it with relaxed attitude really seemed to help - but maybe that's just me

You don't think I gave him bad advice do you? I thought he could connect more to High school student, since he is in High school. Still, what works for me might not work for him.

I was never really successful at the daily work or studying. But somehow I was able to retain most of what was taught and I always killed on tests...

Naw ... easy.

Read the chapter notes, but you should know it already, so this is just a refresher.

I would study the chapter reviews as much as possible
then get a good nights sleep and eat something decent
in the morning and don't stress too much at this point you either
know the material or you don't
