Wilfs will send a message

This season is over and I'm sure the Wilfs know that. With the most recent embarrassment they now have a golden opportunity to make a statement and change in the current coaching staff. This will send a message to the entire organization that mediocrity will not be accepted.
(Not that this team can even be called mediocre) But IMO if they sit on their pile of money and do nothing then they are still sending a message that they really dont care if the team wins or not and the only thing that matters to them is whether the team is profitable or not. I sure hope they make the correct choice for the team and the fan base.

If Spielman is the true GM now, then there's only one person that the Wilfs can or will fire. And that's Spielman himself.

Shouldn't happen and won't happen. Rick is good.
Spielman would be the last one to go out of him and the whole main coaching staff. (HC, OC, DC, STC) I'd wager big money on that.
Spielman has done a good job in my opinion, and I feel that him and Wilf see eye-to-eye on most things.

I doubt Frazier and his staff will get fired this week and here's why: next week the team plays the Giants in NY on Monday night. Wilf, as we all know, is a lifelong Giants fan. Wilf wants to go in and win that game and as unreal as it may sound, maintaining the status quo for another week probably gives the team the best chance of winning. The Wilfs don't want to bring their team to their home turf with everything turned upside down. It's a pride thing for them.
We'll have to wait for the Giants to get their first win of the season for Frazier to get fired.

Eli should have a breakout game against us. Sure, he'll throw a few balls that ought to be picked off, and even a ball that should be returned for a TD. But our guys won't usually be in a position to catch them, and when they are in position, they'll drop them. That's the way we roll ...

Yea aside from Smith there isn't a DB on the team that can catch a cold if you coughed in their faces

I just finished typing this very same thought.... and there is no excuse for this.

Don't be so sure. Spielman has been at the helm for two years now. He's directly responsible for more than 50% of the current roster. By my account, 30 of the 57 players who are on active and reserve lists have been picked up in the last two years. If you add in the 2011 draft with Ponder and Rudolph and various free agents, the number becomes 40 of the 57 for which Spielman is directly accountable.
Spielman needs to begin polishing his resume. Or maybe look for another line of work.

There are holes on this roster, but IMO, Spielman has overall done a good job of working to address the issues.
I think this is a coaching issue. This defense has always been way too conservative and far too dependent on base defensive sets. When that doesn't work, they fall apart. There is talent here but it doesn't seem to be getting utlized.
I don't really care about timing of the firing. It isn't going to get fixed this year unless Allan Williams and Co do something internally. You need Mini-camp and Training camp to make this kind of change.

Is the criminal Wilf even watching football this year? Or is he so busy shredding evidence that he doesn't even realize the Vikings are 1-4 and completely imploding?

There are some coaching issues but there's also some pretty marginal and/or inexperienced talent. I like a lot of the moves Spielman has made but he has to take some of the heat for the team's defensive woes. There just aren't enough quality players in the back 7 and the depth is weak.

Sorry Moth, I'm not agreeing on that front. At some point the coaches have to be culpable. They had input on some of the talent currently on the field as Spielman wasn't the full blown GM until the 2012 draft.
Also, it is up the coaches to "coach up" guys as well as put them in positions to succeed. I do not feel like either is occuring at level that is competitive in the NFL right now. Also, this has happened two times in 3 season and with mostly different starting personnel between the two debacles. (Sanford is only player to be on field during both disasters as Cook was in legal limbo in 2011) I can accept that talent my be a problem, but IMO, it might be time to start asking about why this is happening from a coaching stand point?
The LB haven't really been addressed and that is an issue. You could blame Spielman for ignoring the gap here, but he also was patching holes in other areas...

Apparently he was standing on the edge of the tunnel as the Vikings were walking off after the game looking none-too-pleased.

Yeah, IMO, you need talent to break the top 10, probably more than we have but I don't feel there is a big enough talent deficiency to warrant 31st in yards given up at 418 per game and 30th in points at 31.6. At some point we just have to stop pretending and consider there is a much deeper problem than talent. Josh Robinson is the perfect example, okay he's not ready or doesn't have the talent, can't cut it, and yet there's a coaching decision to trot him out there as not just a player in the rotation but the unchallenged STARTER! We play a scheme that drops 7 back into coverage and yet no help ever goes Robinson's way. Look at the end of the bears game, bad play calling. We have our star players saying it feels as bad as it was when Childress got fired, that really tells me all I need to know.
IF we truly have a defensive master mind I just can't believe his system isn't capable of being better than dead last or near it without a boat load more talent.
